hmm ..

You would be making the exact same argument if some guy who regularly posted Xbox hate was claiming Xbox prices were going up.

laugh it up

I think it's time for a new hobby. My backlog is large enough to keep me sustained for three or four years before I even have to consider replaying anything, I'm good.

Its okay. World not prepared for next gen especially its price. So 2 to 3 years launch from now is okay.
As someone whos owned EVERY ps console at launch or within a month or two after launch - I have ZERO interest in ps6

Dynamic pricing has COMPLETELY turned me off. Combine that with my massive backlog and likely little improvement in game quality next gen I'm going backlog and PC only for a LONG LONG time.

Damn that Xbox! Greenberg and Booty gonna regret this!

In all seriousness though, you dweebs still think the ps6 is gonna be a $600 console if the pro is $900?

Writing was on the wall.

I'm not sure if you've been following news, but RAM manufacturers are current reconsidering their expansion plans. Current projections are that we aren't far off from supply normalizing.

Valve wants to set a price that a good value and maintain it. They don't want to have prices yo-yo all over the place. Anyone that thinks Sony is going to quickly drop prices when the market stabilizes is crazy. You'll get a nice $50 price cut even though they went up $100.
At the same time LNG, helium and oil are.. let's say having a moment. Specifically in chip-related countries.

A year ago I finally found a hobby outside of gaming... 3D printing. Shit is fun as hell and the buy-in is cheaper than a fucking console now. lol

Google helium crisis, virtually all asian supply chains went AWOL.

I don't know what Helium has to do here, lol. The RAM and Storage issues that have been happening for longer, and many of us accurately predicted will lead to increase in console price as well, are the primary culprit here.

Sony should cancel any launch plans for ps6 for next year, if they haven't already

I highly doubt it would be less than 1000$ in the current environment and goodbye to sales if they launch at that price.

Wonder when Xbox and nintendo will announce their price increase

Me too. But next year possibly its a pspnext gen only. Well i think even MS helix will not launch early knowing it will be more expensive than ps6. 2 to 3 years for next gen is fine. But i hope they squeeze more juice on ps5 especially ps5 pro.

Don't champion your ignorance. Basic resources to transform sand into RAM are not feeling very good right now thanks to some guy in US.

What you think the recent war, doubling the price of oil per barrel, causing all sorts of essential shipping to East Asia, has a trivial effect on the cost of manufacturing?
As ShaiKhulud above me stated. Helium is necessary for manufacturing semiconductors. So yeah, its a pretty fucking big deal.

Xbox already did like a year ago. At this point their sales are doa so they can raise it as much as they want and it wouldn't matter.

It is expected no surprise. And pc gpu too price increase.

guys remember $899.99 for PS5 Pro doesn't even include the disk drive. That's the one with attachable disk drive purchased separately.

Don't forget Sony CFO said they will increase network revenues. That means they will cancel annual paid online plans next 90%. Meaning paid online goes from 80$ / year to 120$ / year (paid as 10$ / month).

Just an absolute PC (Valve + Nvidia) Victory. It's over, Jensen and Gabe won.

Paying these prices for a limited device that only plays games isn't sustainable. Meanwhile if you buy a PC you have a general purpose machine. Only handhelds that offer something PC doesn't (portability) will survive long term. But even that will eventually be eaten by smartphones.

GTA6 better be amazing or sales of new consoles are going to dry up this year. That said, PlayStation actually had really good holiday sales. At this point if you haven't bought it it's almost better to wait to next gen if it's actually going to happen in the next year or two. Having already bought and sold an Xbox and PS5 this gen, I'll be sticking with my switch 2 and steam deck for some time.

This is the worst gen in terms of availabilty and price...

The times where we got price reductions and a console for 100€+ is over...

They never said they were releasing in 2027

Now it's a given they won't....

So much for "still on track"

I've been following the console gaming industry since the late 80s... even with all the crazy shit like 3D0, Jaguar, Sega bailing, etc... it's never been as dire as it is right now. It's nearly unbelievable that the new initial buy-in for a game console is now $600... thats a fucking iPad at this point. If there is no dad or mom in the family that likes video games you are going to have generation(s) of kids who grow up without game consoles.

That is already happening. It's not a coincidence that it's pretty doom and gloomy in the console space while Steam keeps breaking concurrent user records.

The RAM and storage are the hold up right now. The CPU and GPU are left over AMD rejects that have been sitting in warehouses piling up. Valve would run into issues if they were trying to produce Sony/Nintendo numbers, but they aren't . 10 million would be a major success.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a PS5 Pro before the hike in April then. I should have done it near Christmas.

Things aren't looking good for consumer hardware on all fronts:

People will buy PS5's blindly with GTA6 Marketing starting in the coming months (rumours say starting april or june).
You guys underestimate how many people buy consoles only for one single game (look at FIFA / EA FC Releases, especially in Europe). There are people spending $1000+ for a new GPU so that their single game they're playing for years runs 10-20 fps better.

I'm considering selling my launch PS5 right now for 350 € to get a PS5 Pro for around 740 € before the prices hike up - I would do that only for GTA6 to have a better experience.
If FF7 Rebirth Part 3 will not be a PS Exclusive anymore, I would get it on PC and have no more games to look forward to on PS5 atm.

Unless your hardware is dying you can keep playing on the same PS5. Besides even when next generation arrives we'll still get several years of cross gen titles.

PS6 consoles are going to be a problem - considering this price hike it's getting more likely that 900€-1000€ is going to be the base price for the PS6. And that's going to be too much for many people to justify such an expense just to play new games.

I got a PS5 Pro with warranty til 2029 and the disk drive for less money than this.

This way if PS6 looks like PS5 did at launch I can ride it out a few extra years until theres more exclusive games or good enough upgrades over PS5 versions.

I bet the PS6 versions of GTA VI and other end of life PS5 titles will be tempting though, all aboard the merry go round.

If DRAM/PC part prices are crazy til 2030 I'll be sticking with console as my primary platform for another gen. Probably buy a low tier used GPU to get HW codec support back and make it so I can run simpler PC-only games well.
