I don't think they will include the 6. They will just call it Playstation Portable.

The fact that they had a system with the same name 65 million years ago won't matter at all.

the issue won't be the already existing PSP, but the messaging about game compatibility.
if the system plays PS6 games they need PS6 in the name.

there's a reason every DVD player has the DVD logo on it. it's called a compatibility mark and ensures that the system you buy adheres to the DVD standard.
same with VHS, BluRay, UHD BluRay, or CD... or hell BetaMax

having the compatibility mark, which in this case would be PS6, in the name, ensures easy messaging for users.
you instantly communicate that this systsm will play PS6 games.

Wasn't needed for the Portal. And that thing even requires a PS5. Seems like the customer is smart enough to figure it out by themself.

As for your DVD comparison. It plays Playstation games, that's more than enough.

Playstation Mini

There, no PSP or Vita relation (If Sony is embarrassed by that history), nor any direct PS6 relation (and the market confusion that follows) either.

PS6P is right there and you didn't include it

(I wouldn't be surprised it they just call it PlayStation Portable, there won't be any confusion with the original after this many years they they'd have Portal and Portable)

the portal isn't compatible with PS5 games, so it has no PS5 in the name... it's just an overpriced controller with a preinstalled remote play app.
that's like putting the DVD logo on your TV because you can connect a DVD player to it... makes no sense.

that absolutely fits with what I am saying. if it had PS5 in the name it would be confusing, because it can not play PS5 games.

so my argument stands. PS6 is the compatibility mark, so PS6 should be in the name.

I should put that as a choice lol

How about PS Gama.
Vita β was the second leter of the Greek alphabet and they didn't want to call it "Beta". Gama γ makes sense.

The most technically accurate name would be PSP3.

But after Vita I am afraid they are going to ask some AI to find them the best name ever. Grok names :

- PSP2
- PSP Go
- PS Vita 2
- PS Pulse
- PS Orbit
- PS Edge
- PS Nomad
- PS Horizon

I am afraid Hulst would agree on PS Horizon :messenger_grinning_sweat:

C'mon. Vita did fail.
Well my post was about PSP mainly though tbh, I was just saying Vita did ok if you compare it to PC handhelds for example, but yes, a failure for Sony. But PSP was in no way a failure which is what the person I was replying to alluded to. Portal too is doing well especially as thats just a companion device and cannot be compared to a full standalone handheld.

Thats why it should be PSP 2

PlayStation Swap
Special detachable controllers called Dualswap

On a more serious note. Any name that evokes "PS6" is a horrible idea because it's gonna lead to a lot of issues when not all PS6 games run on it natively.

Doubt it. They have the portal already that's generationally ambiguous. The best marketable strategy is make it clear it's within the PS6 family, and a successor to be within the PS7 family etc.

If it was more of a distinct portable platform with its own software then "PlayStation Vivo"...(Vita meant 'life', Vivo roughly means 'live').

But the obvious if it's a direct part of the PS6 platform and plays those games is "PlayStation 6 Portable" or "PS6P".

Playstation Portable (PS Portable). No. No one would confuse it with the original PSP.
