SAROS Releases April 30, 2026

PSSR is confirmed for the game on PS5 Pro.

Returnal (along with Ratchet and Sackboy) remain my fav PS5 "exclusives" this gen. This is my most eagerly awaited PS5 game in what has been a terrible gen so far for exclusives.

Pre-ordered :lollipop_fire:
The stellar previews + the fact they have removed/tweaked the frustrating aspects of Returnal + PSSR2 support have sealed the deal.
This and Pragmata will be my next games.

Returnal was the first game and the reason I got a PS5. Been following the developers since Nex Machina.
This will be my GOTY unless something like an AC7 appears out of nowhere and even then Saros will still likely take for me.
I'm just a sucker for 3rd person action/shooters.
An easy day 1.

If anyone missed the shield/dash control scheme, a search led me to the recent PS Blog post:

directional Dash on L1 (which negates most damage while performed), and a bubble-like Shield, the deployment of which is dependent on two things: R1 being held and there being enough power left to sustain it.

And like Returnal:
Primary fire is mapped to a pull of R2, with an alt-fire mode unique to each weapon chosen through pulling L2 halfway down (a satisfying resistance in the adaptive trigger signifying activation), with a trigger of R2 to unleash.

The stationery (eventually rising) yellow orbs with little tails are weird. They don't seem to damage you when running through them.

Could never fully click with Returnal. Been playing their stuff since Super Stardust. Great gameplay every time. Hard to lineup the mood and uninterrupted time for Returnal. Saros look awesome too. I need that remote from the movie click so I can freeze time to play all the games lol.

I am replaying Returnal for 6th or 7th time. I don't think there is a more replayable game in recent memory. Unless Saros makes Returnal obsolete, I could see myself replaying Returnal over the next 20 years. Absolutely nothing like it

From the blog - "There's an arresting visual shift to a level's visual design as the corruption takes hold (which extends to the audioscape – worth sticking on a headset for!), and enemies now fire out additional projectile types – sickly yellow versions which if you're struck by, lowers your max health ceiling. Increased risk? Certainly. But with it comes increased rewards, making it worth rolling the dice for a more dangerous world."

Putting this on the gamefly queue, really hoping that difficulty adjustment mechanism is worth it :messenger_grinning_sweat:

In for that delicious chocolate man Rahul Kohli.

You people are spoilering things for yourself in a game that is probably not that long or super full of content, i only watched the reveal and that was enough for me, i don't want any boss or weapons spoilered.

Returnal was missing 2 things Hades had that I wanted.

Better meta progression(just like Hades) and better story/pacing(just like Hades).

If they could pull that off, it would be...a perfect game.

Game seems just as short as the first one and this being easier makes it even shorter sadly

To be fair, an average Hades run only takes 20 minutes once you know the levels and get most of the upgrades.

I'm okay with shorter games. That said, I hope it isn't super easy or anything. It needs to be tough at first.

I don't think anyone wants a 40 or 60 hour Rogue-like game. Nobody is asking for that.
Hades is that long with 30 minute runs. Its all about how long the runs are. Most roguelikes have multiple times the content of returnal and probably saros. I wouldnt even call them roguelikes tbh. These are one and done games with the story

As someone who needs games to have 20+hrs of content to justify spending 70$, I make a rare exception with Returnal or Saros. Just because the replay ability is so high. I just hope for meaningful NG+ cycles

I said the same thing when they started all the porting like 5 years ago.
Indeed I've made this mistake a few times thinking "oh it won't come" and it does SM2 , DS2, GOWR etc.

I don't believe the leaks for one second. No announcement and no jump on from anyone just a couple of semi reliable "insiders".

I believe they may have conflated Steam with PC.

The trick is to just suck at them. Took me like 10 hours to beat the first biome in Returnal. tbf we did pass around the controller some. But I'm still on biome 3 with like 40 hours played or so.

The UI's disabled so can't check that for the reddened health bar but it just looks like the players avoiding moving yellow projectiles but charging straight into the dormant orbs.

These are essentially arcade games at heart. Housemarque's design lineage is the most old school shit around. These games aren't games about beating them or not, they're about gameplay joy of the moment and dominating levels like a Contra game or something.

My two cents but I have 150+ hours in Returnal and I think having played a shitload of Nex Machina prior made me understand that quickly. He story etc. is just seasoning sprinkled on top despite being amazing ironically.

So Returnal does hold your save this way? So you don't have to beat the whole thing in one seating?

You can only save your current run, and it opens shortcuts to the other biomes. I hear it gets a lot easier once you beat biome 3 and get the weapon that unlocks in biome 4. Plus I think biome 4 becomes the new starting point. I just haven't got there yet.

Correct. And let me say, the in game story justification for making biome 4 the new starting point? Chef's kiss. When it happened, I said "Holy shit... That's amazing..."
