Speedster are the most broken powers EVER, right there with time travel.A-Train. His powers are all over the place.
He can now move faster than light. So fast that people appear to be frozen in time and Homlander's lasers move at a snail pace. Yet, then gets chased by Homlander and struggles to avoid a girl walking across the road?
Well to be fair everybody reaches a point of time travel with speedtesters due that fascination of going back in time (or future). And as things like "this star is looking at Earth seeing Roman Empire" people find exciting, speedters always devolve into "time travel". In case of Boys I presume it is the same situation as with the Flash in DC.Speedster are the most broken powers EVER, right there with time travel.
The simplest explanation is that they wanted to have a cool X-men Quicksilver homage scene but didn't fully think it through.A-Train. His powers are all over the place.

Fox's Quicksilver is one tiny step below Flash when it comes to being extremely broken. They had to buff live action Apocalypse's reaction speed to be almost God-level in order to stop him.
The bit in Justice League where Flash is running by everyone piling up on Supes and all Superman does is move his eyes to track Flash...sooooooooooooooooooooooooo creepy. Superman flexing that he COULD move as fast as Flash. The simplest explanation is that they wanted to have a cool X-men Quicksilver homage scene but didn't fully think it through.

I remember hilarious meme about Flash TV series, with him saying that why everybody is faster than me if i am the fastest man alive or something. The joke with "What's with Reverse Flash? Is he running backwards or what?"The bit in Justice League where Flash is running by everyone piling up on Supes and all Superman does is move his eyes to track Flash...sooooooooooooooooooooooooo creepy. But otherwise most speedster things are just nonsense. How many damn times in the Flash tv show did some villain put the girl into semi-mortal peril and then just run away, forcing THE GODDAMN FLASH to have to chose between spending 0.005 seconds tripping the villain up and then saving the girl or 0.005 seconds saving the girl and then catching up to the guy jogging away?
He is fun to watch.Homelander .. likable villain..
what ..
This show would be nothing without him.Homelander .. likable villain..

Antony Starr carries the Franchise on his shoulders.
He was also good in the TV show Banshee.True, still, I don't find him "likeable" (on the contrary), it's just that he's so good at portraying HL that he basically overshadows everyone else !
Or he could have just got up and run again. Since when does falling over hurt these supes.A-Train. His powers are all over the place.

I'm still on episode 1 and almost didn't recognize her what the hell happened?![]()
From cute to… whatever this look is
Didn't realize the difference was this stark. What a shame.

Crap. I shouldn't have posted that comparison.Graves' disease symptoms:
- bulging eyes (proptosis)
- intense eyelid retraction (staring look)
- puffiness, and redness
- facial fat expansion causing a wider jawline
- changes to the cheeks and brows
That's at least part of it. She's obviously had work done, potentially to correct what's happening to her face from Graves' disease though.
The lip filler/botox around her mouth is partly killing me because she mumbles like crazy, but got to be hard on someone who trades on their looks having a disease that fucks up your face.
Isn't Daisy Ridley also have graves disease? She does not look like that.Graves' disease symptoms:

She is so unrecognizable that her "infiltration costume" consists of a red wig and lipstick![]()

Now understanding she has Graves' disease, I feel bad.![]()

My mom had graves disease. At no point did her face transform the way that actresses did. That's 100% cosmetic surgery. Erin Moriarty is 31, that would be a very young presentation for adult onset GD. Not saying she can't have it, but its very likely that she would have significant facial changes so quickly and she lacks all the most characteristic features.Graves' disease symptoms:

I think one if the things that break the speed super hero is f=m×a....I weigh say 180 and I am moving at even the speed of sound, if I went to just touch something, it would disintegrate on just the slightest touch. So touching a person, it would just explode into pink dust. The bit in Justice League where Flash is running by everyone piling up on Supes and all Superman does is move his eyes to track Flash...sooooooooooooooooooooooooo creepy. For sure, allllllll sorts of issues with the concept, which is why they at least try to handwave it with "speed force" type magic. I'd just like more internal consistency and a basic understanding of how fast he is actually going and what that would look like. A general overhaul of "Superhero physics" would be nice, things like picking up a car while just holding the bumper, catching a falling person in your arms.....3 feet before they would have hit the ground, or lifting a boat with just your hands, two very small points of contact that ought to punch right through the hull. Comics allows for more interesting things that can jump to animation, but once you go live action the momentum and practicality of lots of things starts to fall apart.I think one if the things that break the speed super hero is f=m×a....I weigh say 180 and I am moving at even the speed of sound, if I went to just touch something, it would disintegrate on just the slightest touch. Certainly not suggesting she hasn't had work done, but Graves can start changing someone's face at any age. I knew a girl in high school who started having her eyes bulge. My mom had graves disease. At no point did her face transform the way that actresses did. That's 100% cosmetic surgery. Erin Moriarty is 31, that would be a very young presentation for adult onset GD. I think this picture of Erin Moriarty must be one of those moments where they're caught someone at the exact wrong angle, expression and lighting.
She looks fine here:
Certainly pretty enough that I'd wager most of neogaf need not worry about her desperately propositioning them.
Eh, she's a pretty woman. Absolutely no reason to spend lots of effort criticising her appearance or find criteria to justify doing so.She looks better recently, though not so much during s5 filming (or s4). So either the botox is wearing off, the swelling is going down, or she's corrected the more egregious things. Some of this facial stuff really takes 6-12 months to "settle in" and I think she just didn't time it well for her most high profile show.
But she has lost that "girl next door" cuteness, IMHO, and that was probably her only niche. Now she is competing with all the other harsher faced actresses, not sure how well that's gonna work out for her.
Well, in the sense that this type of excessive facial surgery is ENDEMIC in hollywood and "influencer culture" to the point where women in their TWENTIES are getting botox, filler, and shit, things that used to be for prunes in their 60s but has aggressively marched earlier and earlier. When my teen daughter says she needs a nose job, some botox to prevent future wrinkles, and maybe a little lip filler pretty pretty please, who the fuck do we blame? The lion faced fishlipped women need to know that 'real' men don't value that shit and quite frankly it's suuuuuuper distracting for the character because it makes no sense in the context of the show unless it's a show about superficial wives in Miami or whatever.Eh, she's a pretty woman. Absolutely no reason to spend lots of effort criticising her appearance or find criteria to justify doing so.
I feel like we are gonna start seeing a TON of ozempic comments in shows when every character suddenly drops 50+ pounds. One of the things that bothers me is that never addressed her changing looks on the show, sure it would be uncomfortable to the actress but that would make sense. Her looks started to change completely starting with season 2 and it never stayed the same for more than 1 season.
At least they tried a bit (although still not that much) when the actor playing MM lost a ton of muscle mass.

5 seconds in Political rally with people in Red hats.
Also worst face destruction in a long time.
This is a phenomenon I've seen all over the place lately, not just amazon. Think back to movies and shows in the 80's and 90's, the heroes were complex and flawed, but had a moral stance and PURPOSE that made them very appealing. The bad guys were unambiguously BAD. But all these "he's really just a tortured guy, not inherently evil" philosophy has so infected writers that even when they WANT to make a guy evil, they just can't help but pour all their charismatic lines into the bad guy. I think they secretly WANT to be the bad guy because they have no sense of good/evil, it's all framed as "has power"/"does NOT have power" these days, so of course the bad guy "has power" and the good guys are often powerless, thus the writers actually scorn them.Amazon has a talent for making their main characters so unlikable you basically start rooting for the bad guys. Same thing happened with Man in the High Castle, somehow they managed to make everyone start rooting for the converted Nazi dude by the end lol.
They even made Kimiko annoying by making her talk.
People liking Homelander reminds me of Prison Break and everyone liking T-Bag so the writers gave him a more prominent role. It wasn't until the final season that the writers seemed to remember he was a murderer, rapist and pedophile.
I believe they both have their pros and cons. The comic will still be better than the show in every way. I think the common consensus many make is that it is too puerile and gross, which it admittedly is in the beginning. However as the story went on, I found that I was rooting for the worst person in the comic all along. Billy's goal at the end, when Huey finally comprehends it and the scale of what he is doing, it's eye opening. Butcher was too far gone and he knew it. He couldn't stop himself though, and after attempt after attempt of trying to corrupt Huey, he finally friends on him to end his madness.
The crusade to kill all the superheroes is treated as comical in the beginning, but then you start to realize most of the superheroes were completely damaged and traumatized, completely unable to function in a normal society. Homelander was one of the biggest victims in the comics. When he couldn't remember the horrible things Black Noir had done to try and get him to lose his mind and just gives up trying to be a hero, it's sad.
I'm rambling, but the bottom line is, the show isn't that great and the comic isn't that bad. First season was still amazing. Watch it in a vacuum and forget the rest I say.
