AMD announces Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition

I could see how others might see it that way, but it works for my needs. This setup isn't just for gaming though. Been experimenting with local AI models and I change out the 5080 for a 3090 in the egpu to take advantage of the additional vram. It's a bit of a home lab thing as much as it is for gaming.
Fair enough

i have that too.

was just looking it up. looks like they are going up to 12 cores per chiplet. do you think AMD will release X3D (single 3d cache chiplet) and then an X3D2 or is it possible they'll just start putting the 3d cache on any double chiplet cpus?

guess i'll just wait then for the equivalent zen 6 replacement to the 9950X3D/2 :) thanks!!
9950X3D2 makes some sense as there are quite a lot of games which will be able to load >8 h/w threads. I still don't expect it to end up above 9850X3D though.
A 24C CPU with two cache chiplets makes a lot less sense though. A game loading >12 h/w threads in a way which would actually affect average performance is fantasy land stuff right now, and the cache will have to become bigger to accommodate the increase of cores per CCD making the whole thing even more expensive to produce.
Wouldn't be too surprised if the dual cache part will be missing from Zen6 lineup.

It would be interesting if there was a mode where you could turn off 8 cores but still have access to the cache like an L4 cache. Going to the cache on the other CCD should still be far faster than going to RAM...

Just missing the cpu now!

9950X3D you served me well!

Asus just released a new bios for my mobo to support the 9950X3D2 and I installed it today. Tempted to upgrade... but I'm still very happy with my 9800X3D and gaming is the main thing I use my PC for. Looking forward to seeing the reviews next week though!

Zen 6 will cream this thing, don't do it.

You will regret spending $1000 on a 2024 architecture CPU the second Nova Lake/Zen6 is revealed. 9950X3D could be a last gen CPU by the end of the year.

Yeah I'm sure my 9800X3D will last me a long time. What I need to upgrade more than anything is my 5.5 year old RTX 3090.

At the RTX 3090 level (on par with 5070) you probably would not notice a difference between a $200 9600X and the 9800X3D in the vast majority of games.

I wouldn't even think about upgrading your CPU till you upgrade that ancient GPU.

My Overclocked 265K + 5070 probably performs better than the 9800X3D + 3090 combo while also using a bit less power...

Would it be more expensive for them to make the 9950X3D2 with dual processors rather than replacing the entire second CCX with cache? I'd be super curious how it would perform but surely they're testing it in the lab for zen 6...

edit: Leonidas Leonidas I see you responded right when I edited my post lol. I agree with you though, my old 3090 is what is holding back my system at 4K gaming.

Let's see if that's true :messenger_face_steam:
I only have the demo version of 3DMark which doesn't allow me to run Port Royal.

There are plenty of benchmarks out there though, surely we can compare in some other benchmark/games...

Oof at the power consumption and the price and the non-existent gaming performance uplift.
