Which celebrity’s death would create the biggest public commotion?

Diddy X

Some names would obviously hit harder than others, but who do you think would cause the biggest worldwide reaction if they passed away?

Would it be a music legend? A long‑time Hollywood icon? A sports giant? Someone with massive cross‑generational reach?

Curious to see what names people throw out.

Trump? Taylor Swift?

I don't think celebs have the same status they used to have.
I think this is basically it anymore. Celebrities don't carry the same appeal and admiration they once did, and we are so divided as a society I can't really think of any one person a vast majority would be upset over losing. For most famous people out there anymore, half the population would be mourning them and the other half would be celebrating.

I feel like Trump wouldn't be unexpected... he doesn't seem all too healthy.

Taylor Swift would result in tousands being placed under suicide watch... her fans are insane. I think we would legit see multiple reports about women killing themselves after that news.

Surely her reign of terror will be ending soon. You can't stay on the top like she has for very long typically.

Excluding politicians and business bros, it's gotta be Taylor Swift. A case can be made for Virat Kohli. Probably too late for Messi or Ronaldo.

Tom Cruise - in the acting world.

Trump in the whole world.
I think this is most accurate. Cruise is young(ish) so any death would be sudden. And he's probably one of the most recognizable actors working today.

Trump dying would trigger a social media fervor like no other, especially if he's still POTUS when it happens and if it's a violent death.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

This, for me, is gonna hit the hardest. No actor is even close for influencing my youth and attitudes.

Outside of politicians, yeah probably Taylor Swift.
You need that combination of being very famous + being young to create real commotion

It's going to be sad when Schwarzenegger or Harrison Ford die, but it's not exactly shocking to hear someone in their 80s died.

Hitler if you know you know.

Ozzy was the one I dreaded losing most...., and I must admit a serene sort of emptiness that accompanies the loss of an idol. It's strange. Life goes on though.

Depends on how they go. Someone like the most famous soccer player suddenly dying at the peak of his career would be more make more commotion than a retiree that people didn't know was still going.

Maybe it's because of OP's username that it popped into my head but, if we're talking about what would cause a commotion, I think if Diddy suddenly dropped dead tomorrow there would be a huge amount of public interest in what might have caused that.

Biggest worldwide reaction over a celebrity?

To me the most obvious answer has one of the biggest names in popular/mainstream music or film in the last 5-10 years, but is also established in popular culture. Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Rock/Dwayne come to mind.

Secondary to that, but not by much, would be the household names of the previous generation or two that are still working. Bonus points for being loved. Samuel L Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, etc.

Also: Arnie.

I honestly think the Pope would have a larger impact if we're talking Politics. Taylor Swift definitely for Music, and I still think as for as the tech industry its Jensen Huan, then for sports to me it's a fight between two Mikes, Jordan and Tyson. I agree with anyone that said Tom Cruise when it comes to impact on the movie industry.

Nothing will ever top Michael Jackson, you had to be there, the shockwaves and media attention that received was beyond that of Princess Diana's death (which was the closest "biggest death" I could remember), not sure who today could generate such a worldwide shock.
