I started a fresh run from biome 1 and got all the way past a boss in biome 5 I hadn't even seen before.

Had an absolute godmode build: Smart Rifle Level 44 with five perks and high scaling. Absolutely melting everything.

Then the game kicks you back to the main hub for a story beat, and alllllll of your equipment resets. Bummer.

I'll tell you what I was told this was an easier game than Returnal which I gave up on due to developers trying to force me to get good.

I was really disappointed in this game trying to beat the prophet. 40 min runs to die over and over again after maxing all my available abilities.

Until after my 4th or 5th death to him I was able to access the menu to adjust things. Why they don't inform you or allow you to adjust these settings earlier is beyond me.
I'm going to try this, and if I can't beat Prophet, I'm out. I've played the original Demon's Souls (imported from Singapore) back in the day, the Elden Ring DLC is fine, Lies of P DLC is fine. But this Prophet? I just can't. I work all day, then come back to what feels like work I dislike, this game! I'm close to Returnal-ing to Crimson Desert and Pragmata.

Is Legion a parry skill check boss? I haven't played in a couple days, but I died three times to him. And I otherwise have one-shot all the other bosses so far.

I beat him just now without a parry, that's the one I was talking about in post #151. Then again, that was during a run from biome 1 to him, so I might've been OP.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking I have to do.

Fair I buy games to enjoy them and if the developer doesn't allow me to do this, well they don't deserve support and my money. Just remember once you are in the menu to ensure you don't just select a skill that you also boost the level to 2 or 3.. Trust me no matter how much boost you give yourself it will still be challenging, tough and you will die. I was able to beat both the first and second boss using this with 1-2 deaths learning their patterns.

Yeah. This really seems to be the opposite of a woke game. It seems gritty just like Returnal.
Gritty, yes. But opposite to woke...

Sure Jan GIF

Saros is by no means easy, but I do think it's a tad easier than Returnal mainly because of the shield. Once the shield mechanic clicked for me, I was like "I got this".

I miss increasing max health if you consumed a health orb at full health. Now you have to rely on random drops to increase your max health or increase the base stats. I also miss the shop where you could buy a second chance perk. When i got to the first boss, i didnt have second chance and didnt have a lot of health and basically died in like 4 hits.

Killed him on my second try thanks to the second chance perk i had unlocked, and now i have a lot of health but it was frustrating to get to the boss so underleveled. Felt kinda cheated.

What is it with this generation of gaming that these devs are obsessed with stripping people of their gear?

I just hate that shit. I barely like the rogue aspect of these, but hearing it just warps you back for a story segment and takes your gear makes me not even want to bother with this shit.

Trying to beat game at +6 modifier. There is a mod that practically eliminates all Lucinite earned from any failed runs. That is +4. The other mod is no second chance. That is +2. I am enjoying the grind. I like starting at square 1 for every run

It does sounds like the environment of the game is stress inducing.

I find that pretty cool. Bloodborne and Elden Ring also give that feeling.

On trophy cleanup with carcosian modifiers, loving every second. You never need them tho if you prioritise lucinite pickups for weapon proficiency - when starting at b1 you're almost guaranteed to hit cap 100 around the end of b5.
I had 2 runs while still playing the campaign where i brought 150-200k back to the base, unlocking all if available skill tree section in one go, minus the purples

Made it to Legion just now but died to the red projectiles. Not a bad run though considering I made it through the 3rd and almost all of the 4th biome the first time I set my foot in them.

I'm still not entirely comfortable with the shield and melee map being mapped to the same button with no possibilty to separate the two. I guess it could be intentional to have a slight delay before the shield goes up but it just feels off at times when you're frantically trying to melee enemies and the shield animation starts up and gets canceled instead of landing a melee attack.
I've sometimes noticed the shield not activating after a melee attack which sorta makes it read as the game mixing up short repeated presses vs holding the button input. Or it's just my launch Dualsense starting to show its age.

First 2 bosses are much better than the first 2 bosses in refurnal but i prefer the creature design of the trash mobs in returnal compared to all these drones in saros.

Sound design award should be locked for this one unless gta6 is even better...

What a run, did the first 3 biomes back-to-back, was my first time reaching the biome 3 boss so I had no idea what to expect, got it done on my first attempt though. Was tempted to keep pushing but chose to bank that 20k I accumulated instead 💰💰💰

If you kept pushing the weapon proficiency gathered in b1-3 would easily carry you through the next one. Thats the whole trick - starting the game at the most recent teleport is exactly what makes it much harder than it needs to be

I know, it isn't my first rodeo 😉

I had serious trouble with boss in biome 2. Kept wrecking me, 6 or 7 times? Ever since I beat him I was mostly doing full runs starting from b1, takes longer yes but pays off as some of the later stuff (like b5 onwards) gets really tough without a decked out character unless starting much earlier.

The sound effects and visual feedback of extending the health bar in Returnal alone was pure crack. Then the whole idea of being rewarded for playing well enough to be able to increase health was dopamine central as well. Loved that mechanic, especially when you were at some absurd level of health just melting challenge rooms and bosses.

How do you "bank" during a run?

It's basically a 3D version of the shmup genre. Bullet he'll in 3D that's what your playing for not the story. It can get so wild with the colors and patterns. If you have the slightest discomfort to strobing lights sit this one out!!

Just beat Legion my first attempt using the swamp teleport, no gearing up beforehand 😆 Bartski Bartski

I teleported straight there too but I simply lacked enough artifacts and proficiency. But parrying the red projectiles seems to be the most fundamentsl component to get past Legion.

So now I'm back after doing all previous biomes in one go. I'm at 48 proficiency level going into the marshes so unless I screw up royally Legion will go bye bye. Then again, those Nova projectiles eat through everything pretty fast. Well, at least I'll get that parry practice.

Edit: Well, I guess my overkill farm route worked. Legion down, the traits on the weapons and power weapons at 58 proficiency are pretty insane. Do you get even more weapon trait slots further in? Going beyond 5 seems a bit excessive?

You have to teleport back to Passage and therefore end the run but you will keep all your resources. If you fail a run you lose almost half your earned currency by default, that can be reduced with upgrades but it's still a significant loss.

I'm finding it incredible; I'm playing it on PlayStation 5 Pro with Pulse Elite headphones, and I've even turned the volume up to 120. (I'll probably go deaf.)

But the sounds and ambient music have given me goosebumps at times, and that doesn't usually happen in a game.

Modifiers help so much for me, I've adjusted it to where I feel it's challenging but "doable" in 2-3 runs. I'm at third stage now and starting to enjoy it more now! I was about to quit in frustration tbh.

Three stage bosses are bullshit 🫪
when do the mods unlock?

Gameplay is sensational. Just beaten the first boss on about the 5th try. Still trying to get used to the shield and dodge mechanic, really enjoying it so far.

The people who are worried, offended by the story are really missing out here.

Arsic Arsic my man you said the game was piss easy, but you played with lvl 3 dmg modifier. Out of curiosity i tried a run with lvl 2 and it indeed made the game piss easy, boss literally melted within a minute. No wonder you had that experience. I really think you gimped your first time experience by using that modifier. I recommend using nothing on the first run, unless someone really having a hard time with the difficulty

Oh ok i thought there was another method other than that.

Highly recommend players to have L2 as alt-fire and L1 as Power weapon. Feels better than the trigger sensor. Even thought it felt cool initially. In the heat of battle you don't want to forget what buttons to press.

In love with the art and vibe. Having difficulty modifiers is a godsent and a win for Housemarque. Its a psychological aspect where even if I dont use any, knowing Its my choice if I want to bash my head against a boss or not means I can experiment with the gameplay instead of choosing the optimal build everytime.

I'm standing on a portal by the first boss but it won't let me go back to the passage. The last time i went to the passage from the menu it cost me 45% of my orbs. Do i need to beat the second boss or something before this thing opens up so i don't lose my points?

I really don't want to fight the final boss. I left my good gun back at the end of the level and barely have any health to take on the first boss.

Ran all the way through to the end of biome 4/legion before getting kicked back for the next story moment - 40k lucite to spend! The crossbow is absolutely ridiculous.

I got the carcosan modifiers after beating the second boss - I had assumed there would be incentives for making the game harder, more similar to how parasites worked in Returnal.

Hopefully I can put Pokopia down for a bit so I can actually play this game this weekend. Darn work. Only did 1 run on Thursday and made it maybe halfway through Biome 1. Messing around with the new shield to see how it works. Missing consumables and leveling up health bar (felt good in Returnal going into a boss with maxed health and health consumables) but I guess that's what the skill tree is for.

What's your guys' favorite weapon to use?

For me: Smart Rile >>>> Ripsaw > Tac Rifle > don't really care for the rest or haven't stuck with them long.

The Smart Rifle seems OP, kind of like using ranged magic in Souls games. As long as I'm holding down the fire button and aiming in the enemies' general direction, I can just focus on maneuvering and trust I'm going to wipe enemies. Especially if I get increased clip size + high damage accumulation. Absolutely melts.

I just cleared Blighted Marsh/Legion and found the Repeater Crossbow w the DOT trait. So far it's probably my favourite. You can keep moving/melee/grapple focusing on the bigger enemies while using the alt fire to wear down smaller enemies.
Not the most impressive or brag worthy technique but it kinda reminds me of finding the Rotgland Lobber in Returnal and how Biome 3 went from impossible to fun as hell using it.

I almost feel bad for them lol:

Just did a 1-4 run including every Nightmare Strand, important to note you CAN'T continue on to Biome 5 (which was my intention) with this route as the door at the end of the area after Legion will not open forcing use of the portal back to Passage. You *can* however do 1-3 and then go directly to 5. Anyway, finished with 65k and upgraded a fuck ton of stuff lol.

I'll write a longer post once I've actually cleared the game on my thoughts on how it compares overall to it's predecessor but I can say right now after nearly 20 hours clocked that Returnal is a better game for myriad reasons. Having said that, Saros is a fantastic sequel (all but in name) and I'm enjoying every second of my time reaping across Carcosa.

The first Act II area is kicking my ass. Played it five times and only got to the boss once.

Enemies do tons of damage, and I keep getting hit by yellow and red lasers that I haven't figured out the trick for. And you can't do an Act I run to enter Act II at higher level. Hardest I've been stuck in the game so far.

Currently hovering over Biome's 4 and 5 so for right now it's the Repeater Crossbow. It makes quick work of most enemies and even the Bosses I've encountered. Makes short work of the first boss especially.

No Active Vent reload for it either. The bullets bounce all over the place so if you have multiple enemies on screen, the bullets do the work for you while collecting your health / lucenites.

Just beat the game. The only boss that gave me trouble was Legion, but I beat every other boss on my first try. The game is definitely easier than Returnal, but I think that's because you have so many options at any given moment. And if you take the time to actually learn all the mechanics (instead of just the ones you like), the game becomes pretty easy.

Still, very cool overall. Definitely enjoyed it a ton!
