I'm usually not sticking to one weapon type, if the one I pick up has a few levels higher than I swap.

My favorite one so far has been the smart rifle.

Once you get the repeater crossbow that fight is a cakewalk, but yeah I initially liked the rifle for this fight.

I understand that many people need games to be easier to enjoy them, but I still think I would enjoy this game so much more if it had a single, fixed, tough-as-nails difficulty. While I think the game is truly amazing and an easy GOTY contender, I don't think it will go down in history as reaching the iconic status of Returnal among its diehard fans, such as myself.

Saros was made to sell, and it will
Even with modifiers casuals who buy it won't complete it. I swear some of you are sickos

Why is Sebastian written and animated like there's a lot of untold sexual tension between him and Arjun, lol.

Also, they kinda did Rahul Kohli dirty, Arjun looks like Kohli after a week of cocaine and always has a weird pouty duck face expression with his face.

The way I'd put it is like this:

Saros will be on the GOTY shortlist
Returnal is on the GOTG shortlist

Anyone who likes Saros and hasn't played Returnal please do yourselves a favour and buy it ASAP. You will have the benefit of Saros having taught you the flow of these games and what's expected of you in combat though it will still be a hell of a challenge.

What's weird the game seems to have no destructible environment elements Returnal was full of ... except for a few column-like structures in the city biome. Anyone else noticed this?

I have all my skill tree attributes maxed out but still cant beat the second boss. i get there with barely any health left, and cant even get past the second stage.

i think the problem is that the health drops are too infrequent and weapons dont really have any upgrades that heal you. i remember health siphon being an ability in the first game.

having all that resillience means nothing really if you drop all your health in just a few hits and have no way to bring it back up. i see that there are some skills that increase the frequency of health drops but they only unlock after the second boss.
Shield his blue bullets and spam your prominence power weapon (dont bother with the other one), differently from returnal, the secret to kill a boss fast is to build for power weapons like getting power through various sources and just spam power weapons, glass cannon style.

Power weapons are not something you save but something you spam, i'm not sure if you are capable to do adopt this strategy by chapter 2 tho (i mean weapon perks wise), if you have an hard time start from the first biome and power up properly.

Do you have the punch ability that suck yellow orbs without penalthy? use it instead of dodging and you are gonna fill the power bar in no time.

P.s. i know you can create good builds with weapons alone but from my experience, nothing get close to a power weapon build to melt bosses and hard rooms but i only unlocked biome 5 for now.

Yes! Finally beat the first Act II boss. It took doing a complete run of the area, including the nightmare strand to get higher weapon stats. Plus getting a good roll on a weapon that wasn't the Smart Rifle.

Wait until you find the hard hitter crossbow...i thought the reapeater was peak aswell...

But yeah that is the common saros weapon progression for many :lollipop_squinting:

Got to the Architect and forgot I had a penalty on where I couldn't see enemy health bars. I couldn't work out why I wasn't hurting him so spent the whole fight trying to parry the red bullets, and firing off the odd shot. Just when I was about to die he transitioned to the second stage and I realised I was able to hurt him the whole time, basically threw the fight.

Next time he is mine.

God this game sucks shit in every single way except the pretty particle effects and static meshes.

Makes me question how much I enjoyed Returnal despite its flaws. How did this studio create Nex Machina?

Did i just beat the third boss on the first try? that felt kinda anti-climatic? i was doing shit damage but i just kept zipping around the map avoiding him.

Should I just continue or go back to the base to cash in my points?

The third boss was pretty easy comparatively, yes.

That's exactly where I am just now as well. Transported back afterward to cash in the points.

I just finished this (the normal ending, haven't done anything post game). I enjoyed it, but I definitely have issues with it especially during the last i'd say 1/3rd or so. Im not a fan of rougelikes as a whole and that part of the game exemplifies my least favorite things about the genre. It was just a lot of retreading the same ground and going through the same few rooms fighting the same few enemy types over and over again until I was finally able to beat the bosses of those respective areas (which are definitely noticeably harder than the the bosses in the first 2/3rd or so). Then after all that you get hit with an ending that I found to be anti climatic and unsatisfying.

Im a bit torn but right now the game is a 7.5-8 for me.

So biome four doesnt have a boss? Because i died after getting the parry ability in a nightmare room ( was trying to get back my second wind ability after losing it in the third boss fight) but now the dial shows i have five biomes unlocked.

i decided to go back and do a fresh run from 1-3 now that i have a crossbow and grapple gun and man that was fun. the game is basically all about the power abilities. I just melted the third boss by spamming him with power attacks that kept charging.

i still have no idea how that works because sometimes during random fights, my power meter refuses to fill up.

i think i might do another 1-3 run and learn the parry mechanic. im still not good with the shield. so maybe i will learn it before attempting biome five again.

Nope just bought my LG G5 not going to risk breaking it. Returnal is for sickos who like their balls stepped on with high heels!

Performance reasons - Chaos Physics in UE5 can tank your FPS quite abit when you cant tightly control when it happens.
This was a smart decision by them to keep the game buttery smooth!

Ayo this Repeater Crossbow is pretty OP.

The alt fire is basically just 'point anywhere and start spraying and let god sort them out'.

Got Shepherd on my second attempt and followed it up with a first attempt clear on Priestess. Maybe I'm playing it "wrong" by starting from the beginning of every run, but I mostly feel like I'm always well ahead of the difficult curve in any given run which was not the case with Returnal. And as much as I disliked how Returnal was structured, this game amps my dislike up to 11. I also prefer Returnal's bosses. The smaller roster certainly helps as it feels like a 50/50 split on quality for the bosses in Saros.

Rolled credits. Took three attempts.

Biome 1 and Biome 2 are done and I think I have also beaten Rhabdom in Biome 3! Seemed more like a mini boss because he only had one life bar.

- What an amazing game
- I found the first boss way more difficult than others tbh.
- And always that feeling should I return to the passage to upgrade and not lose all that ''money''.
- Oh and I always start at Biome 1 and go trough all of them, feels better for some reason.

I started playing Saros on my PlayStation 5 Pro this morning and I'm noticing frame rate drops, even though I've been playing without problems for days.

The console is perfectly clean and has always been in a well-ventilated area.

Has anyone else noticed anything different?

I did, but not anymore after recent patches. It really chugged hard in the b2 boss entrance area, and kept chugging till even a next few rooms in. I got proof on tape but it's irrelevant since apparently they fixed it?

Did they released a patch today? Because yesterday the game was still chugging on my pro, not heavy but noticeable.

There were 2 or 3 this week... I dunno, I did not notice anything, but earlier it was pretty bad and very reproducable, in the base garden and in the b2 central area

Bosses are so uneven in this game, 1, partly 2 and 5 were great, 3 and 4 were a joke, how the hell is your first boss much harder and spectacular than your 3rd and 4th boss? :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I think returnal bosses had better boss progression even if the 3rd one was harder than the 4th.

Curious to see boss 6.

I believe there's something in the skill tree that allows them to stay around for a bit longer. I think it's there and not in the modifiers section.

Yes, I have a few of those nodes already but it's still so rapid. Like, in the middle of a bullet hell battle I'm more focused on not getting sliced and diced instead of running around picking up the currency before it disappears in like 15 seconds, and by the time the field is cleared, I'm just looking at a bunch of those orbs floating up in the sky.

3\4 of my damage taken is usually me jumping into hell to pick the money from defeated enemies, never liked this shit in returnal aswell.

Get used to to do the same if you wanna upgrade your level properly or play safe and only collect 1\4 of the money, your choice.

Up there with the hardest game I ever played with Returnal. Guess I just cant read the attacks fast enough. Im a Souls vet and this is tough. First real boss has THREE phases with little to no heals in between.

Is .... is that a fucking goatse in a AAA Sony first party game?

* don't google that if you don't already know what it is.

Finally got my hands on my copy today after an excruciating wait over the weekend. Managed to put 4 hours in already finishing the 1st biome, had to take a break before my brain spazzes out from all the sensory overload I'm experiencing.

Initial impressions, bastards did it again, amazing visuals, outstanding audio, gunplay, particles, haptics, everything is so fucking TIGHT.

Base Returnal difficulty is there, same tactics apply, get reckless get fucked, more exploration and less mistakes on the way to the boss will make for an easier run. Inevitably feels easier specially if you are a Returnal vet with a plat on your belt. The addition of permanent upgrades and other crutches will help the casuals and generate more sales which is good in the end. From the weapons I got so far I tend to switch between pistols. Really like the ricochet handgun, feels so good to nail those weakpoints. I do like that they got rid of weapon trait farming, hated grinding that shit.

Storywise so far, not great not terrible, don't care much about what's really going on and probably never will till the end.

Overall we are so fucking back.

Had an at times very sweaty run all the way from first biome to the end of Cathedral. Got some nice juicy lucenite.

Also somehow picked up a surplus halcyon in shattered descent.

Not a big fan of the three times so far the game does not allow you to do prior biomes to prep for a boss. I.e., Act I, Act II, and The King biomes do not cross over each other.

When I play Souls games, I like grinding and leveling. Putting time in should be a viable alternative to pure execution.

So now I'm on The King fight, and not only can you not pre-level, they take away Second Chance. And here I thought the Act II difficulty spike w a s rough lol

I don't recall this save for the King Fight, what I'm a not remembering? For the King Fight, remember to enable the modifier that turns off Second Chance (I dumped the positive modifier into weapon damage).

To enter the Yellow Shore to fight the King, there isn't a route from another biome to it (unless I'm missing something), so you enter at whatever proficiency level etc you have from your upgrade tree. You go directly to the King's biome (Yellow Shore) from the Primary room.

Wait, so you can use a modifier to turn on Second Chance even for King/Yellow Shore? The game deactivates Second Chance by default for that fight/biome. I haven't touched any modifiers, positive or negative, throughout the whole game.

But you said three instances. The King is segmented, but I believe every other boss can be reached by starting at the beginning. And yes, since you can use second chance for the King, it just makes sense to use that negative modifier for free points.

Ah, two that I know of. You can't cross acts, and you can't cross into Yellow Shore. I'm going to look into the modifiers.

There are story beats that force you to return to Passage, but you can get to any other boss on repeat runs from the beginning.

I only know this because I started from the beginning after each death or forced reset which demolished the difficulty curve of the game. No matter what itemization I got during any run, I rarely felt overwhelmed. I hated the hard reset in Returnal and Saros creates even more reset points which isn't a great design for a roguelite game in my opinion. I probably would have enjoyed this game more if it were a linear action game and was balanced around that.

Beat Saros over the weekend, what an incredible game through and through. Took me around 16hrs to beat the main story. The visual fidelity, the core gameplay loop, the exciting boss fights all kept me hooked and has me coming back from more. I hope they consider a story DLC of some sort down the road.

Finished the game and did all Nightmare challenges, took me about 18 hours. I still need to unlock the "true ending". Overall, it's a point lower than Returnal simply because of the setting. I preferred the cosmic horror/Lovecraftian vibe of the first game and the music.
Returnal: 9/10
Saros: 8/10

Will work towards the platinum and see how long it takes.

So I'm sure this has been asked and answered, I did try to look through the thread.. How is the difficulty really compared to Returnal?

I love love Returnal but could never get past the first boss, if it wasn't a Roguelike, I would just keep trying but after 30+ times, I bailed out, I almost get him but then get slaughtered. So I want to try Saros and hoping its slightly more accessible. Anyone struggled with Returnal but found Saros to be more forgiving?
