State of Play announced for June 2. Over an hour long, with an extended look at Wolverine

The epitome of Western female beauty.

Setting aside Wolvereeee, Fairgays and Goddess of Warmth for a bit, let's hope we see the next cool things from Media Molecule and Bend Studio.

Perfect timing. Right after the leaked announcement the end of Ports BS stuff. Playstation maybe is finally coming back strong liket the old days?

Combat looks good. I can't remember if this is open world or not though.
Not open world. There'll be quite a bit of mobility within the levels, but still separate from each other. Like R&C Rift Apart. And given the story, I wouldn't be surprised if it's totally linear and doesn't allow for traveling back and forth, but that's just my speculation.

Wolverine. I hope it's cool, but I can already feel the sidequest coming up where you have to cutdown 7 trees with your claws in this modern open world action rpg…
(Levelup! Now do you want to unlock the spinning attack or the extra stealth movement?)

I hope Control Resonant gets a release date before GTA6. But probably gets announced at the Keighley show.
Judas? December release? Please?
Too early for some Alien Isolation 2 footage?

Less than zero interest in Wolverine...

But, I hope we get release dates from all the Summer shows for:

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis
Control Resonant
Star Wars Zero Company and Galactic Racer
Fable if it releases this year
Star Wars: Galactic Racer a got a release date trailer last month. October 6th.

There were rumors about Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis being delayed and a tailer in June announcing the new release date (February 12th, 2027). It was originally announced for this year and Catalyst for 2027.
GTA VI releasing on november will aslo have it's impact, with some studios/publishers choosing to avoid that release window.
I know they are different studios, but if Legacy of Atlantis is delayed to 2027 It's likely that Catalyst will be delayed aswell maybe slipping into 2028.

As mentioned, it isn't open world

Wolverine's full leaked story board is on youtube for those curious.
So far nothing shown has indicated they strayed from it.

Personally the only Sony game I'm interested in is Tokon. Give me a release date already.

I am foolishly holding onto hope that Insomniac realized Spider-Man 2 was a massive misstep.

When was the last time we got a good surprise from Sony?

I'm trying to think of the last time they announced something that was a genuine surprise lol. Something really good. I suppose GOW Remakes is pretty cool - don't think that was rumoured at all. But in terms of an actual trailer I think it was PSX 2016 with TLOU 2 teaser and The Lost Legacy.

They sold a lot and got high score MC.

If anything, they are probably gonna double down.
I don't think it sold as well as it could have and of course a bunch of game journalists would score it highly. The game was forgotten pretty much immediately and they didn't put out any DLC. It bombed hard on PC and mostly turned into a joke.

So it all depends how they look at it.

I doubt sony gives much fucks about the game being forgotten if it sold well, and it definitely sold well.

Pc has always been an afterthought for them so i dont know how much weight they put on pc sales.

But i hope you are right and insomniac pulled its head out of its ass.

The fact that they're calling it a State of Play and not a showcase should temper everyone's expectations. This isn't the 2015 E3 Showcase.

Not that long. But this tiny segment screamed Spidey/Arkham style combat... Magnetic switching between enemies, combos etc.

More than the combat, the setting in that scene is really well done. A perfect back alley. That camera shake is wild. Some people gonna wanna turn that off. It makes each punch feel powerful.

I can't remember Sony announcing a State of Play this much in advance. One hour long and they will even be broadcasting in theaters? I think it's the time, this will be a big one.

I want to be hyped for Wolverine but the more I remember how horrible Spidey 2 turned out, the more I'm not bothered about it.

Going to watch just to see if Sony are going to try and bolster their lineup with some 3p exclusive(s).

But the question here would be what 3P exclusives? Realistically we can rule out Square-Enix, Capcom, SEGA, Shift Up, and likely Kojima Productions as well if we are speaking of genuine exclusives. Wouldn't expect anything from the major Western 3P on that front, too.

So that leaves Konami (good likelihood), Koei Tecmo (maybe), and smaller 3P studios.

She doesn't look bad here. A lot of white women decently in-shape and mostly modest make-up on tend to look something like this.

Mary Jane was never a porn star.

Thing is, Sony haven't announced anything first party in ages, but they've actually got loads of exclusives coming this year. Wolverine, Silent Hill Townfall, Marvel Tokon, Phantom Blade 0, Kena 2. So they really don't need to rush out any more announcements. I think we'll get the Faye game, and I wouldn't rule out Venom if that really is still coming, but I think they'll hold the other stuff back for the PS6 push. Maybe Intergalactic gets something at the Game Awards.

If we're talking internally-developed 1P games, most of what they have coming is either GAAS or basically pure speculation at this point. Non-GAAS wise the only titles coming which have been confirmed/revealed are Wolverine, Intergalatic and GOW Trilogy Remake.

Everything else is either long-rumored speculation (TLOU Part 3), recent speculation (GOW spinoff), GAAS (Fairgames, 4Loop), or developed by external 3P partner studios (Kena 2, Silent Hill Townfall, Marvel Tokon, Phantom Blade 0).

Yeah, stands to reason they could show a few more of their internal 1P titles now.

So do I. But the biggest problem for me has been just not knowing WHEN these shows are going to happen. And it seems like the whole industry's finally settling back on the old E3 schedule again now, which is a relief. So I can accept the piecemeal approach much more easily knowing at least we still definitely get 2 big events a year and just treat anything else as a bonus.

E3 had a particular energy that these new events can't replicate, because with E3 you had the big platform holders all at the same location putting on their very best with their conferences. Why? Because the pressure to beat the other guy was high, and to "win" E3, as it were.

None of the digital events post-E3 have been able to create that same environment, so the quality of the shows have gone down as a result. That pressure combined with the live audience factor also led to some genuinely great (if completely accidental) meme-worthy gaffes that made E3 entertaining and were much funnier than the stale, canned, super-sanitized and pre-scripted "comedy" lines from things like Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards.

I also appreciate that while Hollywoodification was definitely starting to take effect with latter E3s, it never "took over" the gaming the way it has now with the new shows. Since the platform holders largely dictated the pace of things, the Hollywood talent and advertisers never upstaged the actual games or hardware reveals, never got the lion's share of coverage etc. It was much better that way.

Could have changed since then but the info going around in 2023 was about missions structured by regions with hub areas. Some missions are labeled "open world" but I understand that those are done inside the hub areas.
The slides inside the spoiler, last one specifically has names attached for the hub areas and quests.

Yeah they sold off the good name of Spider-man 1. But now that people have gotten whiff of their stench with part 2, I wouldn't be so optimistic the next time around.

Days Gone mixed with Wolverine could work (minus the Zombies of course). Still, they have announced it isn't open world so pointless thought really.

I feel like this was the last "masculine focused" Sony game. And it even had a female gay couple in it, except their relationship was so tastefully done (the little you saw of it) and grounded that you thought nothing of it.

It was also before Debra Wilson blew up and became the go-to strong, older black female character. She was excellent in DG.
