I clicked on the thread cuz I misread the title as the classic Konami NES games Rollergames...but it was another game with that atrocious indie art style that keeps popping up.

Imagine the kind of low IQ individuals making this game that they put "thought" besides what the character is thinking in case players couldnt figure out that she wasnt speaking alone.

Trash.

I'm fine with games wanting to lean more into narrative stuff, or even appealing to mainstream audiences, but they need to come up with something way less DULL.

There are thousands of movies or comic books already telling the same story as this game but better, and I can get out of those in a few hours.

Who actually plays this shit? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Let me guess, it's one of those games like Dustborn where it uses government tax money to pay for it. Jesus Christ it's not even a game.

I'm not against the concept—smaller, quirky, slice of life games can be fun—but watching her just roll across the grass without interruption offends my inner eleven year old to the core. If you're going to try to capture a time and place, or an activity I guess, at least get the fundamentals right. It would be like making a childhood bicycling game where coasting isn't a thing and you have to pedal to move downhill or else you roll to a stop—just jarringly off.

I remember playing Rollergames on the NES in a shop when I was little and wanting it so badly and eventually persuading my mum to get it. Hearing that name brings back some memories.

Doesn't seem particularly offensive on the face of it, but it's not to my taste. Probably not to many people's taste, and certainly not to GAF's taste by and large. If it doesn't turn a profit and does waste grant money then that's a shame.

From the dev's LinkedIn:

This is just some artist who got a grant to make a game because of her "unique voice".
aka Not a real game.

This is exactly what you expect it is: Mixtape when the patron is the taxpayer instead of a billionaire.

One thing I'll give it credit for, at least it didn't waste my time lol. The video preview and description has THAT art style plus zoomer nostalgia for millenial/gen x stuff with all the edge removed. Immediately knew it wasn't for me without clicking :pie_relieved:.
