God of War: Laufey Announced

Isn't it kind of ridiculous to have Faye basically pirouette and then struggle to climb and stumble in a small cutscene?

Supposed to be all cinematic and shit I dunno just seemed funny to me

They did the same thing with the gap jump as well

It's probably for the same reason that Netflix shows repeat the plot points too you over and over and over: they think everyone is both distracted and retarded.

The dialogue is legit my only issue with the reveal, and it's entirely because the characters just don't shut up.

I'm not saying it has to be every body's cup of tea, but to act like there's not impressive tech on display is intellectually dishonest to say the least.

Game will be a mainstream rollercoaster, a mediocre story, a visual feast, and an annoying Quaid Cube.

Guess what guys, that's what God of War has been for a while now.

Did we expect this to be literally ANYTHING else!?

At the end of the day, it seems that they're doing a good job of what they set out to do. And that's enough for me to say "hmm. Not bad!".

If that's an extreme opinion here, I don't know what the point is of having an opinion at all. Just let GAF tell me what to think.

Yah know, you can totally like this game and Day 1 it and also not bitch that people don't like this game.

Just scrubbing through again. Faye is actually one of the better things about the title. She looks and animates great. I'll take her over the boy all day long. It's literally everything else I have a problem with. Red dude with always burning dread locks looks like someone who didn't get through casting to be in Black Myth Wukong. The memory of 2018 is enough to nearly instantly see the gamified combat rooms make their return. Wonder how many of those flower pajama dudes you kill before it's all said and done.

The majority of other critiques I've read have similar content. The supporters who brush off the criticism as "they just don't like female leads durr" is bad faith or just plain illiteracy. Though in a God of War title, not having Kratos would be a sufficient enough complaint if someone wanted to make it.
 
I don't even really care about the main character. If she was hotter I would be fine with not having Kratos. But the ultra boring gameplay looked so similar to everything I hated about Ragnarok. Sure the combat looked good but these games are like 10% combat.

Personally im more interested in games that push the envelope further, try to do something new and cool even if it doesnt always work out

These sony games have been playing it safe for too damn long and they all play the same.

Their last best game was Gravity Rush

I really enjoyed the original GOW games, but there is a reason why these types of games don't get made anymore. Is it really fun hacking at the ankle or hand of a giant boss repeatedly? People mock the most recent GOW games for QTE's, it was 10x worse in the original trilogy

If games like this were simply PART of the whole of their offerings, I'd be fine with it, but holy hell they need to take some damn risks.

Keep making big budget safe stuff to keep the coffers full, but gimme the risky PS2 era shit!

Yes, and not only that, GoW 2018 and Ragnarok have sold millions more than the other 6 GoW games combined. So yeah, they are following the money.

Not gonna lie.... this!

Many of the folks on the first page seem to have had their responses pre-written, so it didn't even matter what the game was.

When I heard the concept I was not interested at all. But after THAT reveal, I'm all in day one. It's a fascinating new spin off game with graphics and production values up the wazooo. Looks dope AF!
 
Honestly should come with day 1 fleshed out roguelite mode. Would attract a few more people to buy it just for that.

Other than that I can't think of wanting to play this. I was getting tired of this god of war during Ragnarok, never even beat it after like 25 hours played.

Let GAF argue about whether it's wrong having another female protagonist in a Sony game, I don't give a shit as long as the game looks good to me.


I like my hot women too in videogames but I won't let lack of sex appeal in a videogame stop me from enjoying what might be a good game.
 
Game actually looked pretty cool, but of course Sony does their usual bullshit of having characters that don't shut the fuck up and have to narrate every single thing like their audience is mainly toddlers. Also, as soon as the cube arrived I realized he was the cringe Millennial comic relief character that I can't stand in these games.

Anyway, looked alright, but nothing special.

Why is everything related narrative storytelling in video games so excruciatingly paced?

There is plenty of nuance in this thread. Some hate the game, some like it, and some are just kind of meh about it. Some think it looks great graphically while others do not. Some think the protagonist model looks good while others think it looks uglified compared to Debbie herself.

Just because there are opinions you don't personally like in this thread does not negate people's right to have them, or to disagree with you.


In short, calm down and relax man, and don't try to make everyone think like you do. Differences of opinions is a natural thing, not an evil thing.

Difference of opinion isn't my issue. It's not even about GOW. It's that lately, as someone else said, it feels like reactions are pre-written. Like ANYTHING could have been shown and it wouldn't change their opinion because of something as simple as the protagonist not being fuckable 🤷

By trying not be controlled by the vacuous opinions of "dA pUrPle plaYSE", it seems many have ironically adopted whatever the opposite opinion is. Which IS being controlled by the very thing GAF once stood against.

It's not about GoW. I didn't like Ragnarok. It's just something that has been steadily growing here in the background the last several years and it's disheartening to see these paper thin, predictable as purple sentiments grow to dominate the landscape of this board.

Yea, I'm not liking the direction of GAF lately. I left the purple place exactly because of political bullshit and hive mind thinking. I'm not pleased to see GAF basically turn into the inverse of the purple place, the only thing we need now is mods banning people left and right for thinking different and it will become like that place.

I hate woke shit too but the knee jerk reactions here are disappointing to say the least. I'm getting purple forum flashbacks here.
