Right. I think that's what's bothering me. I'm reminded of the purple place with the knee-jerk reactions.

It's not NEARLY everyone in this thread or others. I'm just saying that it's a very noticeable and predictable pattern. I could write have the threads anymore without opening them.

I think some of you haven't been to the purple place in quite some time. This thread has a wide variety of opinions about the game, opinions on the negative side wouldn't permitted or tolerated in purple world.

Feels to me like many here on GAF don't realize how good we have it here. 🤔
 
I'll wait to see how it ends up, but mostly just meh with the whole thing. Not terrible, but not exciting either.

Combat looks too much like 2018, with some very basic air combo stuff thrown in. Only interesting move being that soul removal where you can slam it into other enemies before it slingshots back into the body, but that's about it. Maybe other weapons/moves make it more interesting though.

The talking cube being called Frank comes off like millennial writing, and coupled with a talking sword just looks irredeemably goofy. Complete contrast to the rest of the game-world, and that game cover at the end with her standing next to the cube just funny.

Honestly, you're right. Literally the first time I had a dissenting opinion on the purple place, I got banned. And I KNOW it's only gotten worse. It's pathetic.

Glad we can have civil disagreements here without fear of getting banned for having the wrong opinion.

Ya. But you can only combine with green ones.

Watch out for discoloured cubes. They are evil squares where arch cube is called Rubik's. The most deadly one as he has the power of all cube colours.

A sneaky cube as it doesn't talk. So watch out. But if you listen closely you'll notice it coming if you hear the sound of plastic pieces rubbing against itself.

I rewatched in 4K, and I cannot stress how incredible the game looks. The hair tech alone is the best on console yet. Her hair getting dirty during the fight. Wow!

The hair tech is INSANE. Some very impressive stuff on display.

The seamless nature of it all, I don't even know how you would tackle that. It can't just be "lots of money". There's some crazy secret sauce under the hood by some god-tier engineers.

We are just jaded with how the industry big boys are outputting the samey cookie cutters, all that budget and time spent .. when smaller entrants have been more ambitious

But at least we don't get people banned for liking these big budget cookie cutters
 
I think this is a bad reveal. You compare it to the God of war 2016 reveal and that had gameplay that flowed much better. This feels very cutscene heavy. It does not sell the game's setting well at all. Should've had zeus or a norse god we have defeated in the past.

The gameplay is still the same arena based tps combat. Where is the innovation? Where is the only on ps5 moment? Why is everything so dull and purple? why the fuck are we still doing single camera takes where you don't see your fancy new actress' face?

Its still interesting and looks very big budget and well crafted, but i dont think it hits nearly as well as Sonys own last gen reveals.
 
I think people are over-reacting to this laundry lady. I get sony has been doing the uglification of women and making them leads for no reason, etc, but I actually think the laundry lady looks pretty close to the voice actress, and is not that beaten with the ugly stick. Plus the storyline of her going to the God's afterlife thing at least makes some sense and it's interesting. Sony clearly lost the benefit of the doubt from all the previous examples from other games.

Clearly a talent pool of the best of the best with good direction top to bottom.

I may not like it on paper to play her and this female director rubs me the wrong way, but that doesn't mean the studio isn't firing on all cylinders for achieving their vision.

If they manage to avoid shitting the bed with narrative and writing they could create an absolutely needed and welcome strong and attractive female lead game.

I have doubts aplenty. I just wish it wasn't called god of war.

The art direction felt like AI-generated direction running on DLSS 5.

It's like Star Trek—the old fanbase knows exactly what it wants, and this isn't it.
As for potential new fans, they don't care about the old franchise. Every generation has its own heroes.
Which old franchise has successfully transitioned to Gen Z and Gen Alpha?

This strategy for products that should appeal to everyone just not working.
 
This game was rumored for a while, and now everything is lining up following the release of the trailer.


God of War Faye Game – What We Know So Far
A report way back in 2023 from FandomWire mentioned how the spinoff game will feature two main characters, and it won't include Kratos, though it mentions how the Spartan hero will still make an appearance somehow.

Since that article went up, the author has since corrected some of the info, and in a now-deleted Reddit comment, clarified how the prequel will star Faye (Kratos' deceased wife) and not Freya as they were led to believe initially, and Tyr (the Norse God of War).

The comment also mentions how the player will have a companion that's some kind of "gelatinous cube." A talking sword will also be present in the game, which is said to be Merlin (yes, that's odd, we agree).


At the very least, we here at MP1st can confirm that East-Asian mythologies will be part of it, as we've heard that elements from Chinese and Japanese mythologies will be part of a new entry in the series. Having said that, game development is a fickle thing, and as such, things are always subject to change, though we expect those to be present in the final version of the title.

Further adding fuel to the fire of this spinoff is that Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson said in a podcast that he has heard the next mainline God of War game (which we presume to be this game) will be announced this month, stating, "so i also, heard separately like last month that the god of war was due to be announced very soon, and in april as well… …the next mainline one."

Unfortunately, I don't see a way out of this.

Happened with movies too. The bigger the budget, the fewer risks can be taken. I wish to god we could have devs making MASSIVE swings on riskier ideas, but that's just capitalism.

Luckily, smaller devs and indies are still taking those risks, albeit with a smaller budget.

Also to blame: the taste of general public. We're enthusiasts that have been playing for decades and actively (at least a lot of us) challenging our own tastes and trying things outside our comfort zone over the years. Most gamers are bros that think peak gaming is Red Dead Redemption 2 (no offense to fans of the game, but you know what I mean) and literally haven't heard the term "Jay Are Pee Gee".

So most money goes to those appealing to lowest common denominator taste, unfortunately.

I got bored of their take on 3rd person action in few hours of Ragnarök. Dont think they can pull me back. Hope though that it's a success so all antiwoke warriors can cry more. Worse snowflakes than many of the woke people. Get a fucking grip

She's been working on god of war since god of war 1. She left two years into the dev of the 2018 reboot and came back just to do this game.

Ragnarök did monster sales so selling less than that isn't automatically the end of the world. In fact I'm sure they aren't even expecting it to.

I guess this is what I don't understand.

People hated Ragnarok (I played for like an hour so I don't really know why outside of the annoying-ass kid).

So then their expectations for the next game is that it will magically make a complete 90 degree turn? What...indicated that?

My expectations were through the floor and were surpassed (especially on the tech side and some of the combat).

Your expectations were too high. Why? Good question 🤷

Dragged by who? The same people who complain about everything online? You need to realize that the casual audience doesn't care. Only a small portion of gamers whine and complain online.

Graphics? Uh, yeah. There are tons of games this gen that look similar and people don't really care.

I'm sure Sony knows it might sell less than Ragnarok, which sold a large amount, which was also helped by being bundled

The game will likely be successful, but I'm sure many people are going to try to do everything in their power to "prove" it's a failure.
 
I might be wrong, but isn't the crowd liking the game much more prone to personal attacks unrelated to the game than the crowd that doesn't like it?

From what I see, the against crowd goes:

>Woke
>Female lead
>Too much talking
>Quippy millennial dialogue
>Same formulaic and uninspired formula
>Unattractive character

But then the crowd that likes it just resorts to personal attacks.

Can we please keep the criticism about the game and not the person? Whether you think they're valid is one thing, but to resort to just attacking someone's character because of their gripes with the game is weak.

Sony's movie-era games are so damn boring. Early GoW was at least a neat kind of action fest... none of the recent entries make me want to destroy the brain cells required to play. But that goes for all their franchises now.

I'm not gonna drag the forum down by complaining about a game I have 0 interest in after this post.

I hope you guys enjoy it but from someone who has figures and statues, been playing god of war since the PS2. Bought a psp for chains of Olympus and ghost of Sparta. PS3 for god of war 3 and ascension.

I just can't understand how someone could be a fan of those games and then think this looks good.

Awful Disney writing. Cute little character, a cube. It's all just playing on the Disney marvel crowd. No gameplay for ages. Cutscenes.

It's the perfect Sony slop for you to enjoy.

I'm out.
