Looking for a game to get immersed in this weekend and hopefully continue into the coming weeks.

Wife is leaving on a short trip and is gifting me a game for when she's gone. I know it's not technically short term, but I'm thinking of picking up a JRPG/Action JRPG to add to my library. I'd love to try something out and hopefully continue it longer term or revisit it some day.

Here's what I have on my wishlist:
  • Alabaster Dawn
  • Eden's Zero
  • Raidou Remastered
  • Tales of Arise
  • Tales of Berseria Remastered
  • Tales of Xillia Remastered
  • Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter
  • Ys X: Proud Nordics
Out of all of those, which two would you recommend?

I've played Tales of Arise for a bit and enjoyed it. I haven't played the rest.

I'm also open to any suggestions. I do already have a ton in my library, but would love to hear if you have other ideas.

I'll pick something up in the morning and probably hop into an OT, if we have one.

good burger I know some of these words GIF

Most of those games are multi week projects.

I'd go with Ys though.
I worded the title very poorly. Probably should've made this thread earlier in the day lol

Just want something to get me through the weekend and I'll probably continue it afterwards.

Ys is always a good time…

Look like you are looking for short jrpg,

Suikoden 1 & 2 remaster,
Fuga: melody of steel (check the artwork first, you may or may not like it).

From your list, I choose raidou.

Ah, I do have the Suikoden remasters. Hmm, that's definitely worth considering.

What made you choose Raidou?

weekend usually associated with sunny weather and holiday, and YS nordic is perfect for enjoying the feeling of breezy day.
and they are bright and cheerful btw, also the location is lush and breezy ocean.

Berseria is the best Tales Of... game on your list. Would recommend either that or Trails 1st Chapter, though both of them will take quite a while to finish. Either way, it's a great time to jump in and get immersed in either.

That does sound really nice. This is the first time I'm taking time off in a long time.

Dude it might be time to finally dive into Trails 1st Chapter. Especially with the sequel due out relatively soon.

I couldn't get into it at launch, but I'm in the right mindset now.

Raidou remastered.
For as big as SMT and Persona fans are. The Devil Summoner line is so criminally under recognized. And probably could get it down in 2 weekends.

What made you choose Raidou?

The old day Tokyo detective setting is really good. I think this is Sega specialty and they did it best, with raidou, persona 4, judgements / lost judgements. The raidou remaster combat and QoL is far better than the original.

If you have suikoden remastered already and never played the original, I recommend that first, the story is just magnificent even decades after their original release.

I am not a big fan of tales, although I loved vesperia back in the x360 days. Trails series is great once you hooked up with its story, but it will be a long, long, long commitment with 10+ games interconnected story-wise.

I think I just wanna take this opportunity to get hooked on one of these 🙂

But yeah Alabaster may be a good one and done choice.
Get hooked. The earlier ys games are only 10-20 hours. Ive heard felghana is peak. The first two games are 8h combined.

Trails is trails. Just understand games may be ruined for you after playing it

I really love the earlier Ys games a lot! I fell in love with the series a good 10 years ago and the modern ones haven't scratched that itch.

I put a good 20+ hours into Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, but I think I got distracted by Fire Emblem Three Houses. It's another game I wanna revisit.

I'm torn between trying Ys X and giving Trails in the Sky 1st chapter another go. I returned it when it launched because I was sick at the time and couldn't game much.

I just beat Trails FC (Original) and Ys X: Nordics back to back. Trails is probably the better game. Ys X has a batshit story carried by good gameplay if you play on hard or higher.

I think Trails 1st Chapter might be the winner here! Especially with the sequel around the corner.

I think Gran Blue is better than all the ones you listed OP

Love that game! I still need to beat it. I should bump that up my list, too.
