Definitely! I have the puck plugged in via USB and it'll wake the PC up from sleep when I turn on the Steam controller.
Oh, from sleep. I thought it was possible to cold boot the PC like a console. My PC is in a different room from my TV so if I could just boot it with a controller, that would be the complete console experience. My PC is already booting in Big Screen mode and I bypass Windows ids. It's also convenient when I want to play on another TV around the house, there's a XSX on that TV and I use the Moonlight client on that one. Still missing one PC on my office monitor (5K2K) to complete my total setup.

Valve's M.O. from their hardware inception has been dramatically under producing and running months or year long IOU queues. They've literally done it with every single piece of hardware they've launched, both the VR headsets, the Deck, the controller, the Machine and Frame are guaranteed to follow suit. It's intentional. If they were at all interested in gauging and satisfying demand they could easily put up $5 or $10 preorders like 6 months in advance.

I linked this video to the exact time you need (34:36) that quickly explains how to set it up.
When you have SISR active, the controller turns into an Xbox 360 controller.
However, you can hold down the Steam button and use the right trackpad to use the mouse with the left and right triggers acting as the mouse buttons.
If you want the controller to act like a Steam controller again, go to your system tray in the bottom right of Windows and exit out of SISR.

Feels pretty comfortable so far, will try it out more tonight. I did install the Steam Input System Redirector (SISR) app that makes the Steam Controller work with games that can't launch with Steam, and it worked immediately playing the GamePass version of Forza Horizon 6. Rumble worked, it got detected as an Xbox controller, provides a SISR Steam Input profile in Steam to add custom controls, and has an icon in the system tray you can set to startup with your PC.
I tried to order it at launch for 30 minutes, no luck.
