The trailers only gave me a taste of blandness watching them. If not even they can excite people then there's little hope for the movie itself. I'd like to see this kind of alien movie made by some really interesting directors like Villeneuve or Garland. Spielberg, although highly skilled, seems to be on autopilot. He has no hunger anymore. This has to be the least hyped, least talked about film Spielberg has ever made.
I would appreciate an old school Spielberg film. But his output lately feels out of touch, like he is clueless what to do and relies on a skewed sense of "what do the kids like these days?". Plus his cinematography.....ewww.The trailers only gave me a taste of blandness watching them. If not even they can excite people then there's little hope for the movie itself. It's also one of his weakest films ever made, sadly. This has to be the least hyped, least talked about film Spielberg has ever made.
Sounds like you haven't seen The Fabelmans.I would appreciate an old school Spielberg film. But his output lately feels out of touch, like he is clueless what to do and relies on a skewed sense of "what do the kids like these days?". Plus his cinematography.....ewww.
I would prefer if he just made sub-100 mill flicks where he could do things his own way, maybe we'd see more passion.
I watched it today.
Although the beginning is intriguing and fast-paced, the script falls apart before the end of the film. The sci-fi aspect should have been much more detailed and substantial for a Spielberg film, and If you're watching it specifically for sci-fi, you might be disappointed. The acting and visual techniques in some of the scenes were cool, but that's about it. 6/10
The Asylum at it again lol
Fabelmans is pure movie magic. I assume people avoid it for the same reason I did - on paper, it just reads like a narcissistic experiment. It's really wonderful though. Top 5 Spielberg for me.Sounds like you haven't seen The Fabelmans.
You know big movies always have glowing gushing impressions in the beginning from YouTubers and influencers and their ilk so when the impressions are just ok or good that means somethingCorrect. Just came back from an advanced screening in my area. It is indeed meh.
When influencers can only say "it's such a fun movie" you know it'll be straight up trash. You know big movies always have glowing gushing impressive in the beginning from YouTubers and influencers and their ilk so when the impressions are just ok or good that means something

Just saw it. It was really bad. Close encounters is one of my favourite movies ever. Disclosure day has none of its « magic ».
Thank god the rumours about the movie being a secret sequel to Close Encounters are wrong, it would have ruined its legacy
My guess is Twitter saw you saw this thread, with people being meh on it, so twitter is feeding you similar stuff. Or they've tied posters here to their Twitter accounts, so you interacted, and are blending their algo with theirs.![]()
my twitter feed is absolutely rammed full of bot accounts slamming the movie, most of them saying combinations of the above.
Somebody clearly spent some money on this, the question is, why?
I saw the film very early, it is not bad by any stetch. I think it's Spielbergs weakest film, but still.

Seems to happen to me a lot with specific video game topics. E.g. I read a thread on here, then I get Twitter posts with like 10K views (hyper-niche). Not sure of the exact function but I think there's a link.
Meaning there is probably a vein on Twitter saying DD is the best movie ever, but you and I aren't getting served that content.
It's an alternate explanation to your supposition that there's a coordinated campaign against the movie. But I seem to have confused and/or bored you. Sorry for engaging, I guess.Me reading this post about algowotsts and shit

How many times were you snatched up by a light in the sky and anally probed that you equate an alien movie with PTSD from JUNGLE WARFARE??????When I was a kid, my dad and his buddies decided to go see Platoon. When they got back, they were pretty messed up. They had all been over there and that movie wrecked them.
This movie was my Platoon. There isn't any high drama or any tragic story scenes like that movie, but there was an underlying current that Spielberg nailed in this movie that hit me pretty hard. I wouldn't say that I felt entertained, but more like acknowledged.

Wow.
Has he? What has he said about it? Not that I'm doubting you, just curious to read it. I just watched this the other day. I know Kushner still very much stands by it. I also remember reading that Spielberg got Kusher to come round to his to watch Munich together before they made The Fabelmans so it seemed like it was one he still feels connected to.So, this is pretty bad then? I'm not surprised.
Spielberg hasn't made a good film since Munich. I say this being a huge fan...well, I was previously. That one (Munich) is great. Yet, he, at times, much later in his career, has implied he disowns the film for being too nihilistic. I'm like: For fuck's sake, where are your balls? This is the guy who filmed Indiana Jones putting a single bullet through the heads of multiple henchmen and then had a crisis of conscience later in life about the handguns in ET. I think he's lost it...completely.
Ordell Robbie needs to have a conversation with Steve. Spielberg is Louis (in case this isn't clear)
I'll see this when it's streaming.
Yeah I just read the whole plot on Wikipedia and it's anything but....Hearing underwhelming reports. Bummer. Part of me was hoping for Matrix-style mindblow.
I could be wrong, but I recall reading an interview transcript in the early to mid 2010s in which he unnecessarily criticized his own film as too pessimistic in tone. I admit my use of "disowned" is entirely too dramatic. I'll try to find a source when I have a minute. In the meantime, I withdraw this comment. I'm old and I drink so there is a non-zero chance I imagined this. I still maintain Munich is his last great film and he's gotten soft.Has he? What has he said about it? I would have preferred to have seen an actual Disclosure Day One movie. But I think the religious angle would be a bit tiresome. There wouldn't really be any religious panic, people don't go to war because of schools teaching the theory of evolution and abiogenesis. Many religions also wouldn't really care about some little green man appearing.Reading the plot, it sounds very tropish and sappy and that's a downer.
What would be really entertaining is irl disclosure. Looking forward to stock markets collapsing and religious wars and panic and all that fun.
Hey maybe people will stop tripping out on transgender issues and focus trans-stellar/transdimensional issues instead.
