[UK] Digital ID to be compulsory for all UK adults under government plans

I think there's value in it potentially. Most western nations are getting into this adult verification ID shit that has you age verifying, face scanning, submitting driver's licenses/passports and all that shit with different processes for different sites serviced by who-knows-what third parties.

Seems much cleaner to just have a nationally issued and recognized digital identifier automatically issued to every citizen at <insert age here> and call it a day.

I do admit this is the UK we're talking about so I understand why there are misgivings.

The last three governments of the UK, four I guess if you count the Con/Lib coalition, have acted against the interests of the population and did things that weren't in their manifesto.

These are the people wanting this, and who's to know what kind of power in the future might inherit this if it goes through. So it's not even about the current government. Once the cat is out of the bag it isn't going back in so easily.

To get them re-elected, they'll probably be lowering the voting age to 13 so the teachers can work on them in schools to indoctrinate them to vote for this lot...

Before I got into teaching, based in my own schooling, I'd have said that's silly.

But now I genuinely think some of my colleagues would gleefully do that. I've seen some in my subject try to trump the subject up as a lead for this (thankfully not at my school).

There are a number who I suspect wouldn't, but we have to wink-wink-nudge-nudge about any social issues. To speak out is to risk being let go.

That city is not even futuristic. That's Chongqin and they dress it up with cheap LED lighting then turn up the saturation and only photograph it at night to hide all the grey skies pollution during the day. It's Chinas Instagram city.

I didn't realize how bad it was until my daughter got her cell phone. We have a program that blocks apps besides SMS and telephone calls. It's the kids whose parents don't have restrictions that I worry about. We had to question a few conversations that were very inappropriate at that age. Kids are left alone with basically a tiny computer and webcam. I see where the world needs to put up some barriers because a lot of parents don't care whatsoever.

Because a lot pf parents dont give a shit. Their focus in life in getting home, eating dinner and watching NF all night.

They want schools and gov to act as free babysitting services. And if something screws up, instead of taking responsibility for their own child, they blame tech companies or gov or schools. Also doesnt help when some parents have dumbass kids getting in trouble too. I dont expect 6 year olds to know anything, but 16 year olds yes.

When my bro had kids old enough to use the net, they installed some kind of Net Nanny thing on the family PC. Cant be that hard. I bet most parents dont even do anything except tell them to dont search for porn. Next thing you know, parents Joe and Sally are busy watching Hulu leaving their kids to do whatever they want all night.

Retarded plan which will fall apart the moment they try it, the question we should be asking us why are we letting Facebook dictate this? They're the ones behind this push for ID verification and have funded many of these schemes across various countries, Canada is next for example.

Restrict social media use for those under 16 and allow voting for those older 16. Don't see the contradiction here.

Basically there isn't enough funds for defence.

Why? Probably because of the amount we spend on benefits which make up one of the single largest areas of UK gov expenditure. Not only is it a massive slice of the pie, but total spending has also been rising significantly in recent years.

The welfare budget constitutes roughly a quarter (around 24% to 25%) of all UK gov spending, making it easily the largest single area of public expenditure and it's going to keep growing. Could be pushing £400 billion per year by 2030.

We're just giving out free money. Some need benefits, but others sponge off the state like a parasite.
