[PushSquare]: 'It's So Sad They're No Longer Around': Fumito Ueda Would Have Liked to Remake ICO with Shuttered Sony Studio Bluepoint

Or is it just one of Asha's balls in my throat?

Bluepoint, the excellent remake studio behind Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, no longer exists.

Sony closed the studio earlier this year, after it was unable to settle on a project following the cancellation of its God of War live service game.

Now auteur Fumito Ueda, the ex-Japan Studio icon behind games like The Last Guardian and the upcoming gen ATLAS, has told IGN he was bitterly disappointed by the news – and had hoped to work with the team again, potentially on an ICO remake.

He said:

"So obviously, we had no heads-up. We're not directly in relation with any project, so I heard about it at the same time you guys probably did in the news, and it was disappointing and sad to hear. I would have hoped that maybe in the future there could be a chance to work with them on something. So yeah, it's very sad to hear the news."

Asked specifically about which projects he would have liked to have collaborated on, Ueda acknowledged the team worked on "really good remakes". Pushed for a title in particular, he smiled: "Maybe ICO."

Between its Shadow of the Colossus remake and 2011's ICO & Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection, Bluepoint had deep familiarity with Fumito Ueda's work.

Rumour has it before its closure, the studio pitched a second expanded remake of Shadow of the Colossus, which Sony shot down before shuttering the studio.

For real, my PS5 Pro is for third party games and my Switch 2 is for first party games and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
I sold my PS5 and the rest of my consoles with all of my games from across PS1 to PS5. I'm done with Playstation. I've never been so disappointed in a video game company in my entire life as I've been with Sony this generation. Just bad decisions after decisions alienating hardcore fans like myself. Bluepoint was the last straw. I want nothing to do with them anymore and they're gonna have to work real hard to convince me to come back to their ecosystem again.

BS if he really wanted to do it he would have presented this opportunity to them while they were still around & even now they could still contract a team to remake the game.

It's crazy to me that they've closed Bluepoint while that studio didn't do anything wrong. But then again, they've also shut down Evolution Studios and Japan Studio. When it comes to studio closures, Sony actually rival EA in retardation.

Remind me the last time they made a proper decision? The helm is full if retards

Sony can seriously go fuck themselves after shutting down Bluepoint. Lost all faith with this trash company after that decision. Absolutely despicable.
Agree.

So many quality games stuck on the PS3 generation that Sony could've easily remade and remastered a bunch of them at a fraction of the cost of all the money wasted on their live service nonsense.

That's why, gentlemen.

As revenge, that's what I'm trying to say.

We must destroy Intergalactic, Horizon Gathering Hunters, not buy any game with the Decima engine, and above all, not the worst-selling one, God of War Laufey.

Because if Intergalactic is a successful game, it will continue PlayStation's disastrous legacy, and even worsen.

I know what I'm talking about; I know the industry.

Not sure if I follow. If Intergalactic is a successful game, how come it would be a disastrous legacy? Wouldn't that be proof that all the crap thrown at it is baseless and out of touch?

On topic: I love Ueda but I wouldn't look forward to ICO. It's a very simple game from another era. I rather have him working on something new.

If I remember correctly there was a topic here that explained why Bluepoint was shut down (essentially they spent quite a while without being able to produce a good enough pitch).

Hi friend

Knowing PlayStation, if it's a success like the person who made The Last of Us, they'll probably put Druckmann in charge after Hermen Hulst finishes, and he's of the same mindset as Jim Ryan and Hulst.

It's a hypothesis I have, something that could happen.

I think you're from Mexico, right?

Greetings, buddy.

The problem is that the sales were low.
In fact, what I found a few weeks ago is that even the total sales of games from Japan Studio and Bluepoint surpassed those of current games, such as Saros.

Which only fueled even more.

I'm going to look for that comparison again.
