Xbox division is bleeding money
That has been obvious for years, but what the fuck was the point of any of the showcase if this was going on? the only explanation is that maybe Hood and Nadella saw the reaction to the showcase and said "fuck these clowns" and have in a rather dramatic fashion decided to pull the plug.

It has potential. In the right hands. Sony could try reviving it to rival COD.
I don't think any franchise still wants to compete with CoD. The only IP on Xbox that is really valuable right now is Forza and Sony already hve Gran Turismo. Even with some differences betweens the Horizon subseries and Gran Turismo, I don't think Sony would want to have two big racing games under their wing.

Nah makes no sense at all.
If it's not doing well under MS umbrella now it's not going to do any well on its own standing on the money it makes itself.

If this is true Asha has been sent in to give it one more shot and if these hail marys fail it will get closed down or sold off. Honestly I can't see it working unless the next hardware release is really something special.

Oh, it's you guys again. Guess this is never gonna get boring, because it seems to be in your nature?

I wonder if you still will be so satisfied about Xbox going down, when there's basically a Japanese monopoly of Sony and Nintendo.

Only a moron wouldn't want any competition!

That AI lady wasn`t sent in to run and save the show, she was sent to stop the bleeding and kill the whole department off if necessary.
MS is done supporting a venture with less than a 10th their usual margins.

Microsoft naver has been and never will be healthy competition. They were a cancer that had befallen the industry.

Sony or Elon? 🤣 But seriously what is happening with xbox right now with all this news? So many news about MSxbox right now. What is the true status?

You really would question over the past 12-18 months if anyone is actually in charge of xbox, seems upper management/the board just want rid of it.

This actually explains so much. Why they got rid of Phil and Sarah who I'm sure wanted no part in getting the brand ready for spinoff and bringin in Asha who doesn't stay long anywhere she goes. On top of that fact that Asha keeps Booty involved so closely in all communications and everything. Most likely when Asha is done doing all this work and it's ready to be spun off Booty will be the one they put in charge.

I don't believe it.

Did you forget that Phil Spencer said this.

In a hearing held during the FTC v Microsoft case, Phil Spencer revealed that Xbox would leave the gaming business if Game Pass' subscriber base did not significantly increase on PC and cloud by 2027. "I can safely say that if we do not make more progress than this off console, we would exit the gaming business," Spencer said, referencing a presentation that showed the projected growth of Game Pass on console, PC, and cloud by 2030 (as reported by Wccftech). "If this were the outcome, I don't believe we'd still be in the business."

Spencer told the FTC that Microsoft needs PC and cloud to reach far higher numbers in a faster time frame. He hopes that this can be achieved by fiscal year 2027, as opposed to what has been predicted here. The slide above, as presented by FTC lawyer James Weingarten, predicts Game Pass will surpass 100 million subscribers between FY29 and FY30. "A majority of our customers are found off of our own hardware, I would hope by earlier than 2030," Spencer said. "So, when you asked me if I agreed with this chart that the light green and blue depending on what colours you see there would have to be much larger much earlier. I would say by FY26, '27 that we should be in that position, or we'd have to make a different decision with the business."

So do you think Phil Spencer got on the stand in court and lied in front of the Judge and the lawyers?

I know my words are influential but I wouldn't mind if it saves the industry, I kept talking about SEGA for decades but started becoming a loyal SEGA customer way after they quit the console business, heck I actually like them more than ever.

"wholly-owned subsidiary"

That means still owned by Microsoft so....meh

Edit: oh….to make it easier to sell. lol…missed that part

Either sell off the hardware division and keep it as they said become a publisher or sell off there studios and ips to consolidate there earnings that there losing or have lost

Not going to happen, why would Elon want to the baggage that comes with Xbox.

He's better of starting his own game company, if he had any interest in the industry.
Well Elon rather spend his trillions on future Tesla cars and going out of space than put his money at risk with xbox. Possible Tencent China will gamble, but I dont like suspiciously communist controlled company to hold big western companies. I rather have Sony or Nintendo to take over.

The hardware business should be killed off at this point. The software component of the business is the only area with value and they've diminished that value with lack of leadership and middling games.

Called it months ago.

You don't suddenly replace a CEO of a Gaming Division with a person with zero game industry experience who's resume focusses on AI.

Asha is there to see what can be salvaged for other divisions, notably the AI development, in the form of assets.

Then, divistment.

MS was never serious building out the Xbox brand with this. This was always about a managed sunsetting or transition into something else that isn't Xbox

Microsoft just shot themselves in the foot.
I don't know how much the rest of you know about Xbox culture (I'm an expert), but loyalty and identity are huge parts of it. It's not like other gaming communities where people will buy anything. If you spin off Xbox and treat it like just another division to cut loose, you bring dishonor upon the brand, and the only way to remove that stain is to make things right.
What this means is the Xbox community, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Microsoft products, nor will they support Microsoft's future gaming moves. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Microsoft has alienated an entire market with this move.
Microsoft, publicly apologize and keep Xbox under your umbrella or you can kiss your business goodbye.
