George Kamitami wants to port all the Vanillaware games to PC but it’s not up to him

Feels like easy money left on the table at this point

I mean, what a person wants and what a company wants are completelly different things. And this is from someone who loves Vanillaware and want every people to play it.
If Sega said so for reasons then he better accept rather than make a post that could stir up some people there.

Massive news. For a long time he was completely against this happening due to concerns about his art being extracted. That of course wasn't an issue as it was already done from the console versions.

Vanillaware was one of the last hold outs. Hopefully this doesn't take long to happen.

Lol what is this- all this time it was always that Atlus wanted them to do pc ports and Vanillaware said no through various semi official sources over the years.
It might be the case that the agreement/contract with Atlus did not include the financing that would cover the cost of a PC port.

And PC gamers will continue to play these games anyway on Vita and PS2/PS3 emulation…

And Sega will not see any value out of it

I'm curious what's their next new game they are working on and they will it come out on PC? I'm guessing it depends who's publishing theirs next game.

Wait, isn't this the guy who said he didn't want to port the games to PC because he was afraid of piracy and getting their assets stolen? I know it was someone from Vanillaware.

I'm console gamer so whether they decide to release on PC or not doesn't really effect me but still hope they do. I want to see their games sell as much as possible and I want to see many people play their games.

I've got money sitting in my Steam Wallet that is waiting for hardware.
Now is the perfect time to get me to spend that wallet money while the hardware is in limbo.
DO IT

They must have finally realized the large sums of money they are missing by not releasing their games everywhere.

As someone that always wanted to Dragon's Crown but never did, please. PLEASE!
Game's the tits man, hope they release it on PC not just so more people get to play it, but so the online mode is back alive again with a lot of people to do co-op with.

It'd also be nice if it allowed for easy moding. Game can be kinda easy so a modded hard mode would be a blast.

I love this. But I am also confused. I remember Vanillaware saying multiple times that they specifically didn't want to port to PC because they were worried about PC people ripping the assets of the games and doing something with them (which was obviously just some bullshit they came up with).
I remember people asking Sega or Atlus about PC ports of 13 Sentinels etc. and some producer said something along the lines of "Vanillaware don't want a PC version, even if we were to port it ourselves".

But, man. I would fucking double dip hard on every Vanillaware game. I would love Unicorn Overlord, Dragon's Crown, Odin Sphere and 13 Sentinels on PC.

So what has changed?

The number of wishlists on steam is my guess

George Kamitani sounds like a made up name.

Since they've announced the Muramasa remaster I decided to start yet another Vanilla game.

I've bought almost every Vanilla game but finished none. But with Unicorn Overlord I'm Kees deep into its overly complicated class system. The only problem is that you have to choose the highest difficulty level for it not to be just a narrative game.

Something is going on here because Atlus told Destructoid that Vanillaware blocked the possibility of a PC port before and now we have Vanillaware saying that it's up to the Publisher?

It feels like someone in this arrangement doesn't want PC ports but neither of them want to be responsible for saying No.

I assume that this means they wanted extra money for a PC port of Unicorn Overlord and Sega wasn't willing to increase the budget.

We'll see if that was really the main reason, but I am glad we're getting one of their other games coming out on PC after so many years.

My guess is changing perspectives on the viability of the PC market. As others have pointed to in this thread, it may be the case that the Muramasa wishlists on PC are really positive.

Would love physical editions of Dragons Crown and Odin Sphere on Switch 2 but I'll buy them on Steam if they come over there instead. Vanillaware is one my favorite devs and I'll support them no matter what.

Hopefully it's just another case of another Japanese Developer finally waking up to the PC market and they don't need to be Console Exclusive anymore.

One would guess so when your biggest market is across a tiny strip of sea with 1.4 billion people that almost exclusivly play on PC (China).

I think some of these publishers heads were bullied by PC gamers when they were kids they hate the PC lol.

Their loss. its easy free money basically since development costs to port these kind of games is almost nothing.

What is this revisionist shit? Kamitani alone was the one blocking PC ports for YEARS. But hey, if he's all for it now, all the better. LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!

It might be the case that the agreement/contract with Atlus did not include the financing that would cover the cost of a PC port.
At one point, Atlus offered to fund the entire PC port of Unicorn Overlord and Kamitani axed the idea. Reportedly because he was worried that PC players would rip and steal his assets.

Maybe he had his Road to Damascus moment?

"Kamitani, Kamitani, why do you persecute me?"

Arenanet (Guild Wars devs) finally letting go of their 'No console/controller ever!' stance and then Kamitami(Vanillaware) finally letting go of the 'No PC ever!' stance, both in the same year...

This probably doesn't need to be said, but anyone who wants to see the back catalogue ported to PC should vote with their wallet and support Muramasa. I know it's a different publisher, but if Sega/Atlus sees the money coming in for Marvelous, this will be a no-brainer for them.

Plus it's a great game anyways.

Is there a source for this? Because this is what I remember:

Article:
As a publisher, we would like to deliver it to PC users as well, but per our agreement with Vanillaware, we are only releasing it on consoles. In other words, there are no plans to port it to PC currently."
