Haven't played any of these but I am not sure that it can even work as a more gamey game. As far as I understand the whole inner monolog thing in it, it is quite fitting to have limited gaming elements and it is just a rather passive experience. Trying to do "proper" gameplay does not fit everything. Heavy Rain and its weird inputs did not make it a better game compared to everything else Quantic Dream made. It just made it a little weird even somewhet distracting to control.
I'd say these games don't need to be more game, just a lower budget. No need to downscale to Gone Home levels, but a rather niche product being one of the best looking games can't make sense.
The problem with such a shift is imho that old fans might not want to go that route and new fans might be wary too since they never had it on their radar to begin with. They probably should have made a proper cut and introduce a new character, a whole new name, and maybe reveal very late in the game that it is within the Hellbalde universe or whatever.
