Hell no. but I do want a steam device somewhere because I really do like these obscure games that release on steam lol. I am more inclined to be interested in a gaming laptop at this point for mobility and being able to dock it....

Hell no, i already have a great PC and all the consoles. And even if I didn't, who in their right mind would by this overpriced junk Potato hardware?

After watching reviews and comparing other small factor pre-builts, I'm still in for one.

I'm currently using a docked Legion Go S Z1E for my bedroom TV and it's an eye sore. Plus I have to remember to turn it on before hopping in bed.

This gets me a device where I can access my Steam library of games for better performance compared to what I was using.

Plus, I can keep the controller on my nightstand, which I can use to boot up the device and TV.

I won't be playing AAA stuff on here and will be gaming at 1080p or 1440p on a 48" OLED from like 10-12 feet away.

I don't want a PC in the bedroom and neither does my wife.

Looks like I'll be paying for aesthetics, convenience, and a better experience than what I have now 🤷‍♂️ Price increase sucks but that's the market for you. It is what it is.
 
If I had a lot of extra money, I would due to the layout of my house. I would want a PC where my couch and wife usually are.

Otherwise, my gaming PC already runs Linux so it wouldn't add much. I want that controller though.
 
You can already see how the voting will go and it's early in the thread. It's also a precursor for reception of the PS6 if it really does launch next year as originally scheduled. Asking over a grand for videogame hardware in this economy? Good luck.
 
I voted "I'm not sure". I think it's overpriced spec wise but looking at it from a mini PC standpoint it's not terrible and I tried building a comparable PC via MicroCenter and it was $1114 w/o tax.

For me these features are important and make the price not as bad
  • Wake from sleep via controller which is nearly impossible on PC without going way out of your way
  • Suspending games like the consoles
  • Small form factor
  • HDMI CEC
  • Ability to hot swap SD cards from my Deck to SM with no issues
Specs are less and less important to me overtime and while I've gamed on consoles and PC since the late 90s when I was a little kid I find I prefer the simplicity and ease of use on the console side more and more as I get older.

I also have a better PC (5600x/4070S) but I've been trying to get away from Windows forever.
 
No, already have a more powerfull PC. And even if i didnt, i would rather buy a pre-built with a better GPU. The 8GB VRAM is an automatic deal breaker.

For the living room, a console is a better option at half the price.

and of course you can always upgrade these PCs. you cant do that with Steam Machine. this thing is sent to die outside of the first couple of millions for the Valve die hard fans.

This makes me want a handheld more than anything really. I know ROG Ally X at $999 is still kind of shit but I'd love to take it on the go. I like that aspect.
 
I already have an ITX pc with a 5060 Ti in it. Sure it's still almost twice the size of this but uh...

I would never spend $1000+ on a device that isn't future proof and a cut down RX7600 8gb is not future proof. There will be demanding games in a couple years that will really struggle on this even with low settings.

I appreciate that someone puts a good PSU on these build comparisons.
Usually, people just put some shit PSU that costs 30$ and is a fire hazard, just to pretend the build they made up is cheaper.
 
I have no interest in the Steam Machine, even if the price were cheaper. That said, the only hardware from Valve I'm interested in is the Steam Deck 2. Who knows when it'll release, but I'm willing to pay a premium if it uses the latest hardware, has an OLED screen, and comes with a solid battery.
 
Hell no. I love my gaming PC, as well as Steam, and I would love a small, cool, quiet, modestly priced and convenient box to plug into my TV (my PC already is) but this just ain't it. Absurd cost to performance ratio, IMO. I really wish Valve subsidized this thing to get it into curious peoples' homes, but this won't be the product to do it, I don't believe. Shame.

Those are the exact reasons why I'm getting one and it's for my bedroom TV. Convenience, form factor, and aesthetics are what keeps me at "yes".

I already have a 4090 where I game, but I do game every night in bed to catch up on JRPGs.

My wife is usually playing her Switch 2 next to me.

It's in the price range I was thinking during this Rampocalypse. Slightly higher but oh well.
 
Voted "hell no" but i wouldnt be getting it even at 249$ pricepoint either, its interesting how ppl feel who were considering buying it at 800$(2tb ssd and pad included) or below, i wonder if and by how much current price point changed their pov.
 
It's high but I think any gaming console released from here on out is going to be $800+, it's just the nature of hardware pricing right now.

Sony and Nintendo will be the best cost per performance because they're sourcing parts off the promise of selling 100 million units, not 4 million like the Steam Deck (and presumably the Steam Machine).

but no, not as priced or with these specs.

Valve needs hardware. Without hardware the Steam store is going to start withering. I know there must be litteral millions of PC gamers who are in dire need of new hardware.
But I suspect millions are going to be looking at removing games from the Steam Wishlist and putting them on the PS5 wishlist instead.

It's all about the games, Yea thats true. But if you can't play the games with the hardware you have. Then It's not about the games anymore, It's all about the hardware.
 
Not a chance, too pricey and the specs are not good enough, also not sure if only plays Steam games, and not other launchers titles, might as well get a comparable or better PC for the same price.

yeah but that is huge pc pulling more power. I already have multiple of those and way more powerful :messenger_crying:
