Starfox |OT| Copilot.....Do a Barrel roll!

My copy shipped, and it's scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

My son asked if he could play it first when it comes in, will probably let him since I'm not done with Elliot just yet.
Sounds like we've switched spots from Elliot, my Star Fox hasn't even shipped yet but they still claim it's coming tomorrow but I'm starting to doubt that.

So I have just finished a top run (all mission accomplished, true end)

My opinion is it lacks a few minor things, that there was no reason to change or update and one major gameplay issue.

For example theres no MISSON ACC-OMPLISHED *DUN DUN DUN* noise at the end with the text slamming in at each beat. Its tiny, small but theres no reason to remove it and just replaced it with just the text on screen. The original was much more impactful, so changing this to be... more boring is a choice.

Some cutscenes are just worse than the N64 original (I know amazing) for example in Sector Z you see the missiles come in and then light in the original accelerating towards the great fox, here there already on their way and they just maintain their speed, so it feels like a very static shot, again why change this to be worse?

Finally the big issue, enemy and bosses don't have any animation or sound effect when your hitting the right place, their just static until the health bar reaches zero and they explode. This is the worst change honestly and I hope it gets patched because it makes the entire game feel off, enemy's should respond to taking damage, it does not feel good to have zero feedback. It will be massively confusing to first time players.

But overall the update is great. I like the additional scenes, the remixed music and the graphics, but unless they fix the no reaction hits this makes the N64 version the best still. They fix that and I would say this is the better experience overall, but as is the N64 plays better due to that issue.

Love Star Fox 64, along game the weird game cube star fox people forgot somehow, Nintendo forgot about Star fox during the Wii era, Star Fox Wii U I thought was pretty good, will this remake/reboot work? I don't know but Star Fox had a moment in the new Mario Mario, I think the animations are odd.

Just finished a run through of the "easy" path (sorta, I took the Solar route and that level is kinda annoying!). Great remake. One of the things that used to bother me is how cheap n64 music sounded so even if you had decent compositions, they were ruined by the tinny samples. Starfox on the snes sounded better than 64 as a result. Well this game fixes all of that with what sounds like a real orchestra.

The between level cutscenes are great imo but it is definitely still Starfox 64. If you are good at the game you can blow through a few of the levels very quickly.

But like before replayability is the name of the game here. I'll have to complete the alternate routes and I hope they did something nice for the "full" ending.

Also I think the game feels different. It felt either harder to aim accurately or I am just not used to the feel. I think the piloting the ship actually feels better but it didn't translate the same way to aiming. I won't play it like I did when I was a kid but I'll try to get all the medals and finish expert mode.

Great game overall. I hope they make an all original game in the same style as a follow up.

Played for a few hours tonight. Watched my son take the easy route and die a few times. Had to step in here and there or he never would have made it. Wow do I love the cut scenes and all the little details. For instance it never occurred to me that Wolf would have known James, and while I'm not sure it's heavily implied through the dialogue. Some of the classic lines are spoken with more agency but overall this new direction is really solid.

I sat on the multiplayer for a while and had a great time. For some reason I thought my OG skills would translate perfectly and I got busted up real good for a while. The arenas are so much larger and there is so much happening on screen I couldn't comprehend it all at first. After a while I understood what was going on and managed some awesome skills and point gains. I wish the boost lasted a little longer in multilayer, I feel like the game would benefit from movement that's just a bit faster. But that's usually how I always feel in flight combat games.

Did a playthrough of the hard path.
I kinda wish they had added more content. I think there is room to add a couple missions as James, and maybe some missions of the new Star Fox under Fox, before this war with Andross. It's a budget title though, so whatever I guess.
There are lots of cutscenes added, but most of them are not particularly interesting. It's mostly just the characters talking about what place they are going to next as a replacement to the video feed communication with general Pepper in the original.
My biggest complaint is probably the writing. Fox is very cocky. The Lylat System is under threat of being destroyed by Andross's army, with even Cornelia being under invasion now, and he's just like, yeah but how much are you gonna pay us? Pretty different from the Fox in the N64 version.
The visuals are nice though, especially with the HDR, and the levels/bosses appear to be pretty 1 to 1 with the original, so if you like the original you'd probably like this.

Personally I would say the original is my preferred version.

I'm frustrated by some of the reviews, calling on rails shooters a dated genre and not noting the budget pricing are big red flags.
Some people would stay frustrated, some people would take it as an opportunity to make a statement.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Killdozer The Wise?
It's not a story the Man would tell you. It's a "dont let anyone and especially the goverment fuck you over" legend.
Marvin Heemeyer was an American welder and automobile repair shop owner, so powerful and so wise he began secretly armoring a Komatsu D355A bulldozer with layers of steel and concrete in 2002 with the intent of using it for destructive purposes… He had such a knowledge of the dark side, he used it in a vehicle-ramming attack to demolish the Granby town hall, the house of a former mayor, and several other buildings. He then offed himself because he got stuck and it is supposed to be a tragedy, but truly before becoming stuck and having to do it Heemeyer story of destroying corrupt official homes was more of a feel good underdog story like remember the titans.

UPS: "A late flight has caused a delay. Your package will be delayed by one business day."

Oh Come On GIF

Out for delivery, woootah! Think I'll start with it docked, then switch to handheld for laying in bed later tonight. I've loved every Star Fox game (even Adventures!) so I'm hyped!

Still waiting for my copy to ship, but I preordered from a local retailer so I kind of expected I wouldn't have it on release day. In order to soften the delay blow a little bit, I checked out the demo at my local Target and man, it was sublime. It was so cool seeing Corneria with a shiny new coat of paint. Really excited to play the full game when it eventually gets here.

The first mission seems way easier in this version of StarFox. I think it is due to the laser upgrades they added to the mission. Your lasers fire faster so you can take the boss down quicker.

1. This game is incredible. It looks and feels SO good.

2. I've been playing with the NSO N64 controller, and it's crazy that it has true native support, with the exact same configuration as the N64 game. It really makes this experience feel super nostalgic. I'm absolutely loving playing it with the N64 controller.

I played the first level this morning before work, it was amazing, felt like I was playing one of the best games of my childhood all over again. I suppose it helps that I probably haven't played Star Fox 64 in over 25 years.

Finally got around to playing the first mission!

The HDR looks excellent and I love the haptics on the Pro Controller.

Man does this game bring me back. This will definitely be a game I pick up and play randomly, just like I did back then.

This makes me want a new Wave Race and Pilotwings 😢

The N64 had so many of those "pick up and play randomly" games that you could just play through over and over again every few months.

Good game. I don't remember any of the optimal stage routes to get the highest scores so it'll be fun relearning it.

The lack of hit feedback on bosses is criminal.

When this was revealed I said this looked like shit. And I do stand by it for the character designs and voice acting.

But it definitely plays butter smooth and looks very nice.

I wish it was starfox anything else but what's here is extremely slick.

I'm so iffy on starting it. I get that it brings up feels, but I've had this gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach that just feels like AGAIN?!?!? I just want to jump straight into the multiplayer.

Just beat corneria and man that boss line delivery was bad.... no passion for someone who is about to die... Also no reactivity to me shooting them is crazy.... There are some cool things but man its looking pretty inferior to the Og so far..

Amazon still hasn't updated my order and claims it's coming today. I don't think so guys and I think you know it too. They did me good on Elliot but I guess I should have gone to Walmart for this one.

The lighting in Aquas was rough.. Very blue and not enough darkness... Used to feel like a horror movie. Also the sfx for shooting enemies is something..

Damn only 3 maps in multiplayer, why nintendo :(

I must have played multiplayer about 2 hours straight last night and then an hour this morning. 3 maps only are a let down, but I'm hopeful for later updates. Whatever the case I am having a lot of fun with it.

I wish online with randoms allowed adjustment of ship speeds like with friends. It's also so busy I found the first few sessions to be really difficult as I just couldn't tell what the heck was going on. I'm understanding the power ups more and what everything is on screen but man I get jumped hard when I fly into the wrong neighborhood. I wish there was an easier way to hide and get away from 4 people on my tail. I did go a few rounds where it seemed like no one could touch me, flying in and out downing enemies like a grim reaper phantom. I hope with decent skill I can make this more common. I guess that's usually my story with any shooter.

Just a great example of sometimes simple is better. The first game I loaded up on my Analogue 3D was Star Fox. The remake is pretty good and faithful, it deserves a fresh sequel with similar game play. Star Fox 64 and Panzer Dragoon may be the best rail shooters of all time.

Anyone else want a Star Wolf game?

Did a hard play through, I was transported to 1997 immediately, what a fantastic game.

Can't wait to do all paths, get all medals and do hard mode.

This reminded me how fun video games used to be, Im in love.

Maybe a little part of my soul is missing but this game does nothing for me and i loved the crap out of starfox, specially 64 which i imported with the rumble pack 2 months before NA release. The visuals are neat and the gameplay looks spot on but it doesn't excite or even mildly intrigue me like i thought it would. Maybe i don't like on-rails shooters afterall or maybe i like the first Starfox a lot more than i liked 64, the OST is certainly superior though i do like this remake's re-orchestrated music more than 64's.
