Chrono Cross Switch port

Chrono Trigger was the first JRPG I got to play when I was pretty young. It blew my mind and it made me a fan although it took me about 20 years to actually finish the game (long story).

I was checking offers on Dekudeals looking for something to play on a Switch Lite so I can be next to my wife while we ignore each other and came across Chrono Cross at a very reasonable price. I never got to play it but it always intrigued me.

There are some reviews around but I trust Gaffers way more.

So what say yo? Is the game worth playing in 2026? Is Switch Lite a good platform for it?

I own PC, PS5 and Switch Lite. I also own fairly powerful Android devices (just in case playing it on one of these other platforms is better).

Chrono Trigger is superior, but still just press the trigger man. You don't even need to ask it twice. No problem on Switch.
And that music...

Check if they patched performance for ashipped. Game was released on all platform with same sub 20fps as og version, but they patched it soon after for 60fps on pc at least since thats where I played it

I'm fairly sure they patched it a while back, it runs a lot better than at launch.

Thanks guys. I pulled the trigger and played about 20 minutes last night. TBH I almost fell asleep, not on the game but the last few weeks have been tough. I'll be playing more this weekend.

The music is indeed amazing.

Performance seems to be OK, even for Switch Lite. I was taken a bit aback because you get to play first and get instructions later so I wasn't sure what I was dealing with but a bit after that I think I got to a village and NPCs give you info on the game system during conversations.

I also need to find out what the difference is between Chrono Cross and Radical Dreamers because both options appear when launching the game.

Radical Dreamers is a radically different game. It's a kind of text adventure dungeon crawler hybrid with great writing, awesome art, and a very dark, creepy vibe that seems almost out of place with the rest of the series.

I highly recommend it, but don't be afraid to check a guide bro. It can be kind of easy to get lost if you haven't played these types of games very much, but absolutely check it out. In fact, I recommend beating it before Cross so you can see how much of Cross is a direct result of the writing and narrative there, but also how different it is.

Good to know! Thanks a lot for the info! I'll look into a guide.

Great game, hope you enjoy it. I think there are a few minor problems with the Switch port but nothing crazy or worth really worrying about especially for the price it can be had for.

Oh yeah, it was like $8 after tax so pretty accessible. For some reason I usually get sleepy when playing Switch regardless of the game. I usually do it during flights but last night I was just comfortable and the same happened so I hope I can stay awake long enough to enjoy it
