Tom Cruise is...DIGGER

I heard the reason for that was he was looking for "serendipity", for those takes where the acting ceased to be acting or had some special quality which could only come out by accident after hundreds of tries.
I've heard that too, but in the Shining BTS footage I've seen she was making mistakes or arguing with Kubrick over how she should act in a scene. That's bound to create problems with Kubrick.

That would be "the digger". This is just digger.

Cruise is fun as a cool guy in action films like Mission Impossible and Top Gun but I'm looking forward to seeing him let loose and embrace being a weird guy again.

What I always heard/read was that he purposely treated her like shit on the set in order to break her mentally and get exactly what he wanted out of her performance. If that's the case, then it certainly worked.

And Keitel told Kubrick "You're out of your fucking mind" before he stormed off set after like the 90th take. And it was just of him opening and walking through a door :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Maybe he should've opened the door like he was told to then 👀

Looks more like it was an ego problem

I don't know the details, but I agree with Harvey Keitel's statement about him having a sense of his own worth. There is no reason to stay in a situation that you find disrespectful just because of the reputation of the director.

He sounds like a criminal talking about disrespect, someone with ego problems who can't handle being a professional or taking orders so he crashed out.

Yeah that's from the Mission Impossible movie where they break into KFC headquarters to learn the secret 11 original herbs and spices.

I don't know, I take it as him not being willing to put up with Kubrick's idiosyncrasies that other actors would simply because of who the director was. I know he had an issue with Coppola and was fired from Apocalypse Now. Maybe he just doesn't work well with the New Hollywood era directors.

So there was a really weird trailer for this movie before Supergirl.

It showed clips from virtually EVERY Tom Cruise movie in existence (except The Mummy, of course) and felt like it went on for minutes..... and then the last 30 seconds is a teaser trailer for Digger. Wtf?

Edit: oh wait someone posted the trailer earlier in the thread lol

That looks pretty terrible to me but it's Inarritu so I'll check it out. But hot take, Cruise looks bad bad.

Not sure I share the same sense of humor as Inarritu though.

I love the art direction, so I'm definitely going to watch - but I think I should watch on streaming platform so that I can get some subtitle/context with it. :)
