Boring ass anime

EDIT - I know I sound mean but my friend was obsessed with the anime when I was in college. I never got that type of humor so it was a boring anime for me

One of my most favorite series of all time, since I discovered it in public TV as teenager. I started watching it blindly, expecting a badass sword and sorcery anime, and stayed because of the chaotic humor. Years later, I bought as many of the manga as I could find (the stories there are a bit different tho).

Fun fact: in the Spanish dub, there were literally only four actors doing the voices of all characters for all the seasons. Also, Lina/Rina was called Reena, Gourry was Gaudy, and the show renamed as "Reena y Gaudy".

I enjoyed the seasons greatly and it was one of the early anime that I checked out after DBZ/Sailor Moon. I still have VHS of most of their releases. The intro themes were catchy ear-worms (Megumi Hayashibara!) and Lisa Ortiz as Lina was perfect casting and I love her voice. The Dragon Slave spell chant was awesome. However, I didn't really care for the movies because they didn't bring back Lisa.

I liked it back in the day although I was a never a big fan of it but my memory on it is a bit fuzzy on it since it has been such a long time since I had last seen it. Wasn't there a dragon girl as well or am i mixing that up with some other anime. Oh well, I had been thinking about watching this series for awhile now so I guess I can watch an episode or 2 after my sleep.

I still have all the LaserDiscs of the show, and I loved it.

Lina was an archetype of an overpowered character.

Haven't watched too much anime or even heard of this one. So my opinion is that Slayers looks like any number of 90s anime I haven't watched, since I don't have enough exposure to really differentiate them from each other.

Maybe when I'm retired and my thumbs can't hang with the sweats in Call of Duty #57 anymore, I'll catch up on anime.

One of my favorite things about Slayers is that the main characters are usually far from your typical altruistic heroes, even if they end up saving the world and all that. Amelia is perhaps the only one with a hardwired sense of justice, but Lina and Gourry are a pair of simpletons who mostly care about food and money, Zelgadiss would sell everyone and their mother for a chance to break his curse, and Xelloss... well, he's just Xelloss.

It gets better in Next and Try in my opinion. More interesting villains, a better balance between comedy and seriousness (still very lighthearted for the most part, of course) and a new character, a very beloved one, appears in the show.

Well that's the thing, my friend would constantly watch it and it would be the dubbed version. I was bored out of my mind. It's just not my type of humor but my friend constantly watching that anime made me hate it. I have the same reaction to The Boondock Saints

yup, this is amazing anime. Lina and Gaury are probably one of my favorite duo's. And the gags are hilarious. English voice acting is also peak.

Imho the first season is the best. Fallowed by second. The more seasons go the worse it gets because the main plot takes over rather than more slice of life-ish 1st season. Pacing wise it is clearly TV series. There are some eps that are there just to be fillers which i didn't like. Same with plots, rezo copy was meh.

I think it has one of the best casts around though, everything from party to enemies.

IMHO the series peaks in the second season (Next). It has the best villains, secondary characters, and of course opening.
Third season (Try) feels a bit... weird, as if it tries to cram too many stuff. The plot was specifically created for the anime, and while Kanzaka took part on the process, I think it shows. Still, it has the most charming co-protagonist and is the one where Gourry's dumbfoolery seems more unleashed.

Incredible openings but what the show is actually about isn't for me.

Might watch the OVAs with Naga though.
