Robocop - Amazon TV series

If Wan makes Alex a soldier instead of a cop, he's already lost the plot. A soldier is NOTHING like a cop and the "protect and serve" dynamic is TOTALLY different. May as well make Alex a grocery store stock clerk or an accountant for all the mindset similarity crossover.
I thought there was supposed to be a OCP show, which would have explored the corp dystopia angle more. Given current events, it would be a documentary at this point

While I share the opinion that Amazon produce a lot of shite, their more mature series like reacher, the boys, fallout, and terminal list are all good so I'll keep a little bit of hope set aside for this.

There has been:
- RoboCop Animated Series (1988) : 1 season, 12 episodes. Even by late 1980's standards the animation is pretty sub par. The show was passable.
- RoboCop The live action series (1994) : 1 season, 21 episodes long, 44 minutes per episode. Produced in Canada. I use to watch this when I was a kid. It is pretty cheesy, but has some charm to it.
- RoboCop: Alpha Commando (1998): 1 season, 40 episodes. Set in the future of the future of RoboCop. I can't say I have seen all the episodes, but I have seen the the first 10 or so. It's another average Saturday morning cartoon. Not really worth re-watching.
- RoboCop: Prime Directives (2001): Mini series, 4 episodes, 90 minutes per episodes. I sat through all four of these. Really forgettable. Not really a TV series. Just a four part mini series.
Honestly the animated RoboCop stuff fared better than the live action stuff. But none of it was great, IMO. It was all just varying degrees of mediocrity. The only thing that I could say about an Amazon prime series is that the budget will be there to produce some solid looking effects and action scenes.
But when it comes to RoboCop very few things can ever live up to the original film. The 2014 remake had so much potential and an incredible cast. But it fell apart on the production stages. Also making it PG-13 was the most idiotic decision anyone could make. Especially when they brought on the director from the Elite Squad movie series initially, when it was assumed that the movie would be R-rated.
RoboCop 2 is an entertaining movie, but also a mess on a narrative level. RoboCop 3... ehhh...

I'm excited to hear this. I'll watch it simply cause its Robocop. We'll see how much of the originals spirit and honor they manage to keep. Huge Robofan myself having met Dr Peter Weller,(yea I know I always mention this), drove hours to see him, anyways it was great meeting him for the few minutes I got to talk to him, stood in line to get an autograph and then later met him during one of those photo ops which I got a little bit more time. It should not be hard to pull off an acceptable Robocop series in this day and age, bar really isn't that high anymore for Robocop, so let's see what they will bring to the table, hopefully not crap lol.

I'm still salty that the director of Robocop never went back to making Science Fiction films after he made Hollow Man. I love Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers and Hollow Man. That guy has a talent for making fun and gory science fiction films

I hate Robocop 3 for the side reason of it being the final blow to Fred Dekker's already battered career as director. Night of the Creeps and The Monster Squad are two of my favorite films ever, his style was just the wrong choice for the franchise.

I had no idea that it was directed by the man who made those movies. I think that Robocop 3 had so many things stacked against it. It is interesting how RoboCop 2 was actually trying to push the R-rating harder than the first movie, but in a borderline superficial way. The third movie went the complete opposite by make RoboCop more of a superhero.
The PG-13 rating didn't help anything either. Robert Burke just couldn't replace Peter Weller. When though Robert Burke has continues to have a really good Hollywood career. he's going to be in the Tom Cruise movie Digger. The movie feels more like a made for video sequel than an actual Hollywood movie and I can't figure out why it feels that way. I think it was slated to be released in 1991 or 1992, but the release date was pushed off to late 1993.
The Siskel & Ebert review:
Hilarious that gene Siskel was bringing up the idea of a female RoboCop. Roger Ebert's response: "you triggered me with that idea"

There is an EXCELLENT story of a woman who is systematically cut away, leaving only her brain, a few vital organs, and maybe one hand. So virtually everything 'female" is stripped away. But then they slap her into a super sexy android body such that she is ARTIFICIALLY now a mega-hottie. But is it real? Does it matter? Can her isolated organic brain still appreciate the synthetic body? What made her a woman in the first place?
Obviously a metaphor for menopause but also addresses the crazy ideals of female beauty, the lengths women go through to halt the clock, etc. Wrap all that up into a tale of police justice, corp greed, and personal revenge with a bunch of gore and boobs and I think you have a robocop movie

I like Robocop 3. I just wish the actor for Robocop tried to impersonate peter weller when his helmut was off. It's too obvious it isnt Peter Weller without the helmet. They also shouldn't have killed off Lois.
