Halo: Campaign Evolved - Review Thread

I'm certainly in a bubble but what's the feeling on the street for this release?
Is there any buzz or just apathy from the mainstream? Maybe some interest from aging millennials?

The Steam user score is really bad. Login issues, crashes, no way to option of chromatic aberration, wtf....
Seems like MS has another winner on their hands.

☝️ This guy gets it.
The award for being completely wrong? Then yes he does. The MP in Halo CE was not half of the game, the game was blowing everyone away in 2001because of the campaign. That's what put Halo on the map so to speak and this remake says in the title Halo Campaign Evolved, it's literally in the fucking title! So this guy gets nothing because he's wrong.

Honestly I would've done this:
-Work on halo 1-3 remakes same time for all 3 for the campaigns
-Dedicated MP team creates a new MP focused game
-The MP has major sweeping updates when a new campaign launches
-Small refreshes and season in between to build up to new campaigns

Essentially launch halo 1 campaign and the MP is included in deluxe or sold separately.
1-2 years later drop halo 2 and major update. 1-2 years later drop halo 3 and major update.

Then if it's a success have work on odst and each also be worked on as halo 2 is about to launch and if it's not doing so hot then don't do the odst and reach updates.

This would give them a 5+ year roadmap with constant revenue and keep folks happy.

After this is all done, launch a new halo SP game with new console gen and either overhaul the MP if it's a success or create a new one if needed.

You can disable CA, it's a UE game.

Go to here.

I tried booting this on a second PC and the Microsoft Login booted me from the primary PC and wouldn't let me log back in once I realized the saves didn't sync. Was finally able to get back in on the first PC after logging out via the in-game menu on the second PC, shutting down, and waiting some time.

Same story as Metroid Prime 4.

They fucking can't make sci-fi fps masterpieces anymore smh.

Halo CE is arguably my top 3 games ever, mainly because of it's eerie, mysterious and minimal atmosphere.

Why transform its essence into a shiny and generic slop ? Kills the whole game.

Also, trailers for this game are so generic and boring, go back and watch Halo 3' trailers...

Honestly I would have done this:
-Shut down 343 or whatever they are calling it
-Send Bonnie Ross and whoever else who led the company to stand trial in the Hague
-burn down the buildings they worked in
-salt the earth where they stood
-impose a policy where anyone who mentions Halo at Microsoft for the next 10 years is instantly fired

i didn't expect resident evil 4 level of remake quality but i didn't expect this to be this much of a letdown
and not to mention ue 5 issues
crying shame

343 lied. Game is always online

This garbage should be illegal. Getting rid of the physical media option is bad. Tying physical games to an online checkin that adds nothing to the game and protects no one is almost worse.

Consumers need to be protected from invasive and unnecessary barriers to enjoying their own purchases.

I mean, I remember the original Halo.

The muliplayer sucked. It was local splitscreen only the and pistol/sidearm or whatever you started with was so OP it was unplayable.

Everybody on here saying Halo is multiplayer.

I'm not sure they were playing Halo when it launched. Multiplayer was a novelty addon for that game iirc, and the multiplayer did not become what Halo was about until 2. 2 was huge man. I was in college when it came out and it changed our lives.

Halo was campaign for me 100%, and the 2 player local coop

Multiplayer wise I was way more interested in Tribes 2 in those years.

I see a lot of familiar faces here from the Marathon Death March thread. I presume your interest in the death of Zombie Bungie is rooted the same place as mine; a deep love for OG Halo. It can be tempting to not play this turd and just do some drive by posts, but for me OG Halo CE is worth white knighting. I think it's worth the $10 to play a few hours such that our barbs may be sharper and wit more cutting. We can do more to damage the financial futures of 343 if we're more familiar with the content. idgaf what Microsoft rebranded them as, I identify 343 based on smell rather than sight anyways. And this thing? Stinks to high heaven fam.

Lest anyone think I'm being harsh, I just found a vid of one of the new levels and it's pulled directly from Avowed. You can't make this shit up.

Halo CE is all about the campaign. Getting to play it coop online is a worthwhile addition on its own!

Halo CE MP is pretty much a bag of nonsense. An overpowered pistol, grenade spam, and glacier movement. Anybody who didn't know what to expect would absolutely hate it. It really isn't the miss you think it is!

Personally can't wait to get stuck into the campaign again - it's been a few years!

Nah this is just wrong. Maybe you didnt get into it, but Halo 1 multiplayer was extremely popular. And it would have been godlike with online play.

r.e. balance, the Pistol was to halo 1 what the Battle Rifle was to Halo 2. 3 shot kill vs 4 shot kill, but pistol was harder to use and you had to lead your shots, while the Halo 2 BR was hitscan.

Halo 1 was also pretty much the start of competitive FPS on consoles too. It was very well balanced, high skill game. And awesome at LAN parties if you had the chance to experience 4 vs 4 on the smaller maps or 8 vs 8 on Blood Gulch.

Don't get me wrong, the campaign was still the best part of Halo 1, but you could only replay that so many times. There's no reason to downplay how well rounded a package it was though with the MP addition and that this new release is just worse in that regard.

I'm in a bubble, too, but my sense is that the hype is modest. Seems to be coming mostly from people who've already played Halo. I'm sure there are some new players excited to play it for the first time, but I'm not hearing a lot of that.

I'm a PS-only guy, and I'm not sensing much hype over here -- no frenzy to get hands on Xbox's #1 core franchise, finally coming to the PS. I kind of expected some of that, but it seems pretty quiet. I can't speak to the Xbox side, although I imagine this is mostly a known quantity to them, with technical enhancements and some new content, so the anticipation will be there, but not boiling over.

I heard that it ranked well on pre-order charts, so I don't mean there is no buzz/hype. I'm just saying it seems rather quiet to me, at least relative to what I expected. It's possible that the relentless bad news about the gaming industry has put a damper on people's enthusiasm across the board. I don't know.

I'm curious how it'll sell.

Can't even blame this pissr for this one. It's the Xbox version. It's getting hard to tell UE5 artifacts and scaler artifacts apart anymore. It all kind blends together

6 years with all the king's men and this is what they came up with? A quick and dirty UE5 Halo CE job? I hesitate to call it mod-quality because I respect a lot of modders. There isn't even a big Halo in development in the background like we all thought. How did both versions of Bungie just quiet quit on their bosses at the same time?

the reviews should dock a bunch of points for the always online and player 2 having to have an Xbox account
It's always online? You have got to be shitting me man. What is wrong with these companies?! They're not even trying to pretend anymore. Battlefield 6 campaign is online only but at least that has multiplayer. Microsoft, EA and Sony are all scumbag companies. No excuse except for DRM and to hold a level of control over our ownership of these games.

yep and if you want to play local co-op players you have to have a Microsoft account

All I can say that every reviewer that gave this a bad review can fuck off and shove a dildo. Game is great and fun. Sucks it's on game pass so sales won't be that high . Wish they didn't add it there so people can buy it and not just game pass it for a month and move on. Game is fun to play and more fun playing it legendary difficulty with friends

Holy shit that transforms the image quality. It looks super clean and sharp now.

PS5 Bros might help with sales

The fact that there is a pirate version of the game out already proves its not 'always online'.

I mean it had a ccu earlier of 15k on Steam, and you can only play the $80 version so far, so sales shouldnt be too bad on PC.

What a bunch of sore losers reviewers. This game is a 10/10. XBOX does it again.

When Zelda remake comes out, it will get 10s all over because it's Zelda.

209 reviews from 15000 people playing and it just launched so this is going to mainly be people who haven't actually played the game - just immediately lost their shit because the couldn't turn off CA or had some kind of sign in or other issue.

Nice dream ....alas, i've never seen a worse team and management as with MS/343 and Halo. It's really infuriating.
