XBOX Backward Compatibility on PC announced

Thief tf you are on?

If you want to go balls deep into OG Xbox (like I did) you can just get one, get an OSSC (unless you have a CRT) and an internet cable and you are done, online + good games. You want on the go? Xemu is already on Android and IOs, and since you dont want to be a 'thief' you just get your games and then the images.

This just cattle behavior of 'Please! Let me just get digital licenses of 20+ year games Microsoft!" or even worse "Please Asha! Let me rent older games!!"

Not that long ago everyone where shitting on Sony for trying to force people into digital licensing but now this is a 'good' move? This is a worse version of what we have right now.
I was simply responding to your "WhY wOuLd AnYOne WaNt tHiS?!?!?!?!?!?!".

From what I read of the article if you have already purchased the digital versions of those games (which were later available on the Xbox Store/marketplace) you can now play them on PC.

If people don't have an OG xbox and don't want to go through the process of downloading 878gb worth of OG xbox game images (IE the theft I was referring to), this seems to be a great way to experience those old games as they make them available.

I am sure you have a complete collection of OG xbox games as you have gone "balls deep" into it.

It is still a ridiculous answer, you are defending Microsoft 'good action' of letting people pay again for 20+ games, only to get a worse version of what they can have thanks to many community tools like Insignia, a free revival of OG xbox live.

Thats the minimal thing they can do. What? The licenses you rented on Xbox is somehow incompatible with the license of the emulator?

(IE the theft I was referring to),
What theft man? Those games have been abandoned for 20+ years, and we already know that at best you rent a digital license. If 5-10 years for now Disney/Lucas Art revoke all license of Star Wars to EA, we know these companies have no shame in just taking games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 from your 'library'.

If you tell me I can just go to a place in the Microsoft store, and just order a new copy of Star Wars Battlefront, of Halo 2 or Dead or Alive: Xtreme and then deliver it to me (aka, not a license rent), I will concede you that it is theft. But thats not real.
this seems to be a great way to experience those old games as they make them available.

And this is what my original post was about: It is not great, unless somehow you are slave that if you dont see it on the store for digital borrowing, then it doesnt exist.

TODAY, there are better solutions, all community driven and related to the OG Xbox, I will just name a few:

- Free Online: OG Xbox live in all its glory with friends, message, etc
- Achievements: Some mad lads somehow managed to introduce achievements in the OG xbox.
- Mobile ports and Cross play: Play on your Xbox, play on your PC, Steamdeck, tablet or phone and with everyone else using insignia and unlocking achievements.
- Mods and ports: games like UT99, Hexen 2, Dark Forces are being ported with even more things to come now that people developed some C tools for new homebrew games. And dont worry, these ports usually ask you to put the game files from PC into the the port, so this is not first degree robbery.

Well I'll leave this hex edit I did years ago for Crimson Skies, it makes the game display in Widescreen and unlocks the framerate to 60 fps, if anyone or ever is possible to patch these games it will come in handy.

Would be nice to digitize my OG Xbox library to PC with the rumored disc-to-digital stuff.
Rumor is the disc to digital program is only for Xbox One and Series games.
Correct, it's only going to be from One onwards because of the way they encrypt those discs.

indeed. Xbox One and Series X discs all have fully individual serial numbers. so every disc has its own unique identifier and can be tracked.

360 and og Xbox games don't have that, but Xbox One and Series X games do because it's a remnant of Microsoft's plan to make the Xbox One always online with discs just unlocking your license for the game.

that system needed unique identifiers for every single disc, as you could only sell them once, and after that they would be permanently locked to an account, and would need to be removed from the old account.
that's why the original Xbox One concept would have needed a 24h online check-in to certify which games you still own or don't anymore.

the leaked disc to digital system basically revives this old concept, and simply removes the limited disc sales part, but keeps the digital profile lock to your account.
it will still track if you still own the game, by detecting if the disc has been used/registered on a different console by a different user.
that's why I am almost 100% certain that this system will also require a 24h online check for registered discs, because they need to make sure you're not registering dozens of games, put your console offline, and then just sell them all.

This creates a lot more questions. Xbox emulation on the 360 was notoriously shit. Did they fix up all the issues within that emulator? Because the games were perfect on Series X as far as I could tell.
Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN

The one/sx emulation supports barely any original xbox games, like 50 total, the 360 emulator supports over 400

Quality of the Xbox emulator was hit or miss on Xbox 360. Numerous annoying artifacts, missing effects, bad performance, audio issues, choppy FMVs etc.

I'll take 50 games which work perfectly over that.

Yeaah.... that's one of my major gripes.

I remember having a modded version of the emulator on my JTAG X360 which expanded the library even more.

Games like the OG Xbox ports of Fatal Frame 1/2, GTA 3/Vice City etc worked great on the X360, but for some reason none of them are compatible with the Xbox One/Series version of the emulator.

Drive by post in appreciation of them including the Xbox boot logo in the emulated titles.

Someone in that building understands me. That's 1 more than the Sony building in 2026.

the issues on Xbox 360 was mostly a lack of power.
but yes the newest version (2021c) of the XeFu emulator does indeed improve many games. people backported the newer Xbox One/series X versions of the emulator to modded Xbox 360 systems, and that made some games that were previously basically unplayable now playable.

so they definitely improved the accuracy and stability

Is this list supposed to counter anything I said? If you sort by "Known Issues", there's far more than 50 games that have "none".

I don't know why you are caring so much about this.

I asked an open question about whether Microsoft have resolved the documented issues in the original emulator. Apparently only kevboard was willing to provide an answer that, yes, apparently they have continued to make improvements to that existing emulator rather than make a new one.

So my question, and its answer, have improved the knowledge of this thread - not being a pedantic retard who feels the need to defend the honor of how well some old FIFA games ran on an Xbox 360.

Lmao.

Microsoft has a track record of ditching their backwards compatibility efforts.

They've done so on Xbox 360 and again back in 2021.

I don't doubt this will be any different.
So you really they'll leave it at 4 games? They don't need to reinvent the wheel here, they already have the emulators and a ton of older games licensed and already being sold on Xbox. It's not exactly a leap to imagine they'll be gradually releasing most of them on PC as it's practically free money for them.

Well done, Xemu is way behind PCSX2 and Dolphin btw.

Dudes account has been suspended by GitHub because of people downloading the mod....just shows the demand for these improvements.

If you listen to the guy in the video. This mod/ hack also triggers Windows defender and other antivirus software because it highjacks a running process of some kind. That alone would be reason enough for GitHub to suspend this persons' account.

Just tried out Conker. I feel like I should have all of these games, but it's the only one showing up as owned. Ran it with AFMF at 60fps and it looks and feels smooth. Cool stuff. Would be nice to get a bunch of 360 games supported like Gears 2/3, Crackdown, NG Black, Lost Odyssey. I guess we'll see how it pans out. They better hurry or they'll get left in the dust by all the decomps happening lately.

They should have added it to Rare replay like they did with Goldeneye for those that own that. From what I understand Conker is there for those who have Gamepass anyway. Hopefully Rare Replay itself gets a PC port. But perhaps there might be licensing issues now that Bond is a part of it.

The biggest advantage of this program is finally being able to curse the cunt who designed the lava hoverboard section in conker with great satisfaction, even 25 years later. That cunt probably thought, "People will complain for 3–5 years and then they'll get over it." Nope. It's been 25 years, and I'm still cursing him for it. Here's hoping people are still cursing him 25 years from now. Thank you Microsoft.

Great game btw, had some laughs here and there, until this lava section, which probably never happened to me while playing games(I'm not talking about just smiling). We will never get a game like this again and that's sad.
