Looking at the first clip, I think on top of bad writing a lot of modern games have this issue where the visuals clash with the writing.
Like the writing for the quirky scientist would sort of fit if the game had a cartoony art style, but when it goes for a more realistic look it's just cringe.
It's the same problem with modern FF, the characters look fairly realistic (somewhat stylized, but still realistic), but they move and talk like anime characters.

I think you're right about the disconnect between the visuals and the writing. As for JRPGs (and Japanese games in general), I don't think that's really a new problem. They've been doing it for decades, and I don't expect them to change anytime soon. Modern Western games, on the other hand, often feel like they're written by people whose biggest inspiration is Netflix, and that style doesn't always fit the worlds they're trying to create.
Please don't derail the thread, or I'll have to report it to the mods.

It's true that JRPGs have always been like that, but I think as tech progresses and character start looking more realistic, the disconnect between how characters look and act just became worse.
Like if we take FF7, I think a character like Yuffie talking and acting they way she does comes across differently if she looks like this:
Instead of this:

It's like the Naruto run. It looks ok in the show but absolutely retarded in the real world.

That's fair, but I'd argue Yuffie has always been like that. Even in the original FF7 she constantly made exaggerated anime-style poses and movements.
Rebirth didn't invent that aspect of her character, it just makes it much more noticeable because she's now rendered with highly realistic visuals.
And that's exactly the dilemma. If Square had toned Yuffie's personality down to match the more realistic visuals, people would probably have complained that she wasn't Yuffie anymore.
