Augmented Reality Super Mario 64 Demo

The running around the room stuff is as old as AR itself. I got invited to a preview event for Microsoft's failed efforts and even HoloLens did stuff like that.

The other stuff is kind of neat but a little gimicky.

Looks cool.
Reminds me of Eye of Judgement.

There is a lot of potential but it has been mostly exploited by porn.

The PS2 version of Lemmings had some neat EyeToy mini -levels.

Also, check out the VR version of Demo. The trailers don't lie, you actually reach in and pick up board game pieces from the table like it's really all there. And if you play it syched and have friends over, everybody sees the same thing from their perspective at the table. It's truly augmented reality.

Damn, that looks so cool!

I'd love to have a similar thing for Magic The Gathering Arena.

I had an Oculus Rift for a while. Then the cable broke and Meta wasn't supporting replacements. Second hand you could find them but for $150 and up. It's just a propietary cable. I fixed it a couple of times but it kept breaking so I gave it away.

I've been thinking about getting another headset but MQ3 is still Meta and I don't know if I should forgive them for retiring support for the cables and the other options are too expensive in my region. I've been going back and forward for the last year. This will keep me thinking about that! I wasn't that interested in AR TBH but haven't been following the scene either.

Buy this cable from amazon (if you ever get back into VR)*

Infinitely better than the awful oculus branded cable, this one actually works and it costs 17 USD.

Thanks for the rec but it was for a previous version. A 100% proprietary cable that, from what I remember when I did some research, includes a specific video encoding (or decoding?) microchip. Someone was launching a a crowdsourcing project back then to produce them again but still it was $150 or so.

From one side it went to the headset and on ther other it had USB A and HDMI. My cat decided to chew on it one day.

I ended up soldering it with a magnifying glass (what a pain in the ass is to solder HDMI cables!) but it gave up eventually.
