Hey mods, can you take that Geoff thing out of the thread title? Apparently, Mark Burnett was the guy lying, and its kinda embarassing that even mods jumped on these conclusions without evidence just because its hip lately to hate on Geoff Keighley. Although I am not his biggest fan either, this is just a bit ridiculous.

It looks like Mark Burnett may be behind the expectation of five reveals? USA Today quotes him as saying:

He may have oversold it.

Just a little.

Oh shit.

I think we've figured out what happened. Mark said "five movies" - indirectly insisting that five new games would be revealed. He never said that there would be five game announcements - just announcements that would be equivalent to five new movies.

So it's him being an intentionally deceptive piece of shit.

Geoff's retro comment still needs to be justified, though.

It wasn't Geoff who lied about the 5 unannounced games! It was Mark Burnett, the producer of the VGAs!

What was the retro game Geoff was talking about? I understood some game that Geoff loved to play many moons ago was making a return........What was it?

Yup, dug it up and the 5 unannounced games quote was from another producer as previously linked on the last page, My bad for trusting the mod title edit -_-.

Geoff does still need to explain away the next-gen comment (said we would see games "far beyond summer 2013") and the retro-game thing though.

The five reveals thing just seemed like an analogy instead of a promise.

Think people looked too much into it.

Though the Spike/GT guys could have been more clear.

If they got you to watch does it matter if they lied? This is a marketing event first and foremost aimed more at dudebro gamers than anything else. The closest thing you'll get to the Academy Awards is the AIAS awards which I believe still take place but without all the media hubub. Spike Awards are like the MTV Movie awards - for fun and not serious.

I was wondering about Phantom Pain too. It never even showed up on this repeat of the VGA's.

So........whats the deal with that?

He lied about retro game revival

Castlevania is an ongoing retro game revival, as is Dark Souls in gameplay difficulty. Geoff apparently never said that the last entry in that series needs to be 46578 years ago.

Which is still... stupid PR speech to get attention, but not completely lying.

So please educate us what's wrong with refering to a direct quote.

Because 99% of GAF is blaming Geoff for the 5 unannounced games, when he was not the one who said that. Mods really need to change the thread title, people were posting that and the title got edited so I took it as fact myself. Unless they're leaving it for the next-gen and retro-game statements that Geoff made of which nothing came of (apparently)?

Yeah, USA Today in the article bullet-points his statement as "five new games will be announced." Burnett overhyped, USA Today misnterpreted, people are disappoint.

The retro thing has to be Dark Souls 2. Geoff specifically refers to an amazing announcement for "old-school gaming fans". Nothing about a retro title or an old-school game, just fans of old school gaming. Which is a comparison that has been drawn a lot with * Souls, and the reveal was pretty goddamned epic and unsurprising.

Kojima trolling everyone.

Edit: Also, mods. Geoff wasnt lying, making the thread title quite a bit embarassing. Please change it.

Geoff's position in the gaming industry as an information source and his ambiguity on comments will ensure his ban-free existence.

Not bitter, just unsweetened
I have a weird feeling that retro game was supposed to be killer instinct

But then uspto decided to nuke it

Or something

Why am I grasping for straws? Burn the witch

look I will admit (and I never thought I would be doing this), while there were still terrible/groan-worthy moment, this year's VGA was an improvement compared to past efforts(still needs a lot of work though).

I just have one question though...has anyone found out the name of the violinist from orchestral bit yet?

Geoff never said it would be a retro game. He said it would appeal to old-school game fans. Which Dark Souls obviously does.

It's marketing bullshit, but he didn't lie about anything. You have to remember he's a marketer foremost.

Burnett is a pretty solid producer, it's possible that he just used "five movies" as a general example without realizing people would end up thinking that meant exactly five game announcements.

Infinite looks like straight up po-dunk SHIT. I am sorry, but it has already been too long, and it looks degraded and compromised. Be warned.
