It's Official GAF. I'm too old to know some new slang.

Traditional Amerca is dying. This is just another symptom of the sickness that Obama has allowed to fester in our once great nation.

-repeatedly use ludicrous terms such as "YOLO", "swag", "boost", "beaking", "doe", "really", "naw", "actually", "twerk", "coaster", "dagga", etc., to make a valid statement when they speak

Now I guess I need to look up all the bolded.

I'm 18 and don't know any of the bolded except "doe".

I actually use doe and ratchet in real life. I'm part of the problem.

Don't worry Bob from accounts recieveable will be dropping it around the water cooler soon enough. Like they have done with bling, swag, and etc.

I'm 23 and I have never in my fucking life heard that term, ever. I think if you actually used that you would get your ass kicked in High School or in College look like a big idiot.

Man.. as with all slang, the more you hear it the more you'll understand it's usage. If you don't hear it often enough to "get" it, then don't worry about it.

Chill guys, 'Ratchet' will be the next single released by Justin Timberlake.

Just try and hum loudly for now and when his album drops and then it will be OK to use it.

You don’t even have to be old to not recognize slang.

I was only in my early to mid 20’s when I first heard the term of “Da Bomb.”

A co-worker and I got to talking about movies, and it led to Star Wars.

Me: Yeah, I enjoyed that movie a lot.

Co-worker: That movie was ‘da bomb’

Me: What are you talking about, that is one of the highest grossing movies.

Co-Worker looks at me, snickers.

I was in my mid to late 20's and one of the white people that had to look up Skeet when Dave said it on Chappell's Show.

It happens.

From my understanding, ratchets are sluts.

Used in a sentence it would be, "I just saw two ratchets giving some jaw in the alley out back." or something to that effect. With "ratchet" being a skank, slut, or derogatory word for female and "jaw" being a blow job.

I'm 20 and this is the first time I've heard of this word. Pretty sure I am completely and totally out of touch with modern slang, haha.

Is this a regional thing? I've heard that people in New York call each other "slime", but I've never heard anyone around here use that term either.

All that means is that you're more mature and probably a better person than some teenager spouting random nonsense words to fit it.

The whole point of slang is to be exclusionary. Once a term becomes too mainstream they have to make up something new.

:( I start school in a few days, and I'm 32....

I saw some kid with those big raver jeans, like with the belts and chains hanging down from them. I though, man, those were popular when i was a teen.....then I felt old.

But kids still wear those big raver jeans with like a colored stripe down them?

Electronic music is really popular in the US nowadays and we're in full rave-revival mode. Neon is usually the choice of attire for candy ravers nowadays not the huge raver jeans though.

I'm going to #slay anyone that takes Ratchet's name in vein.

When I first heard someone use "ratchet" like this, I assumed they were mispronouncing "wretched." I wonder if that's how it got started...

Huh really? I've been hearing that slang for the past 5 years. Well, I honestly shouldn't be surprised how many people on gaf doesn't know what that means, but it always confusing on how yall don't know. I guess different communities and all that..

I'm at that ancient age (23) where I've resigned myself to using English instead of pretending to be an indifferent cool-guy.
I figure someone will appreciate it eventually.

'did you see that ratchet ass chick? leopard print and half her ass falling out'

lmao this topic reminds me of when white people were like 'wtf does skeet mean'

Uhh, pretty sure anyone who did Eng Lang/Lit could figure it out immediately, I wanted to see whether it tends to be used exclusively to describe women, it looks that way.
