Can we live in a world without Xbox?

kaizenkko

My predictions age like milk
I haven't owned an Xbox console since 2018, but on the other hand, the brand has never entertained me more. From the disastrous acquisitions that were supposedly going to kill PlayStation and end the console wars, to the flip-flopping arguments of its die-hard fans, to Master Spencer's 4D chess moves (faithfully followed by his disciple, Sharman)... Guys, it's been a roller coaster of emotions.

I had a lot of fun with all the Jim Ryan memes, and I kind of miss them. I also feel that when Xbox inevitably fades away, our little corner of the internet will be just a bit emptier.

I'm honest. Xbox was cool with the Originals and the begining of 360 era... but since Mattrick / Kinnect / Spencer... My god... They have only made the industry worse.

"I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend."

I wish I could tell you that Xbox fought the good fight, and the Internet let him be. I wish I could tell you that:

I'll lose all my Xbox 360 digital games when my Series X dies. I'll have to rebuy the ones I want during Steam sales.
I'm honestly done with MS as a platform. If they have a decent game I'll buy it on Steam.
Helix could get me back as a hardware machine that plays Steam, but not as a MS game store or platform.

Of course yes, and the Xbox fanboys too.

When Sega did stop making consoles part of their fanboys migrated to Xbox, and the other ones migrated to Nintendo and their behavior continued. When Nintendo did stop making home consoles their fanboys did follow them to the portables and their behavior continued. Some of the Xbox fanboys already migrated to PC.

Things will continue being the same, but some of that people will just wave a different flag.

Sega never reached the heights of the Green King.

At this point we could live in a world with only Nintendo and PC, and I wouldn't give a shit about losing the other 2 boxes given their weak output this gen.

Both Sony and Microsoft are big tech companies that got involved with gaming to make more money, and their only real value is being more competition. Microsoft just screwed up the most, so they have the best shot at meeting the reaper.

This debatable, on the one hand we have...........................................................................on the second hand we have..............................................................................., so you decide.

Sure. But it'll suck having less competition. I've liked owning Xbox products, for the most part, having always been console-agnostic and owning them all since the Atari 2600.
It sucks to see something fail like that, because of loss of jobs, but Microsoft definitely mishandled things, for quite some time now. We'll see how it all goes. Definitely a sea change.

Yes we can. Although I game on PC, I haven't used shit from Xbox on their platform. Even if I buy an Xbox game which recently was FH6, I did on Steam. Can't remember the last time I bought an Xbox game before it

Surely we don't want less competition though

We have been living in a world without Xbox for a while

Nothing of value will be lost when they rebrand to "Windows Games"... oh Im sorry, i meant: WINDOWS GAMES

I've lived without XBox since Halo 2 so I'm good to go either way. Plenty to laugh at if they vanished too.

I've never owned an Xbox ever, but I've always experienced the best games on PlayStation when Xbox was a major competing brand. So no, I don't want to live in a world without Xbox.

That'll probably heal the world. But for me, the best-case scenario would be for another company to buy Xbox from Microsoft and completely reset everything from the brand name to the studios buildings. The whole thing feels cursed.

Asha will change that, you'll never hear flip-floppers again cause it's usually what men do in organizations dominated by men cause a lot of them are idiots.

Honestly Microsoft stopped trying after that disaster of Don Matrick and then years later Phil Spencer admitting they screwed up because the rise in digital distribution locked people into their respective catalogs (look at how many people won't switch to iOS or android strictly because of their app purchases).

One leader told you stick to Xbox 360 and then got spanked the next day with a console 25% stronger and 20% cheaper with a video that showed they cared about physical games.

A second who used all the money and muscle and didn't move the needle then gets on a podcast and fully admits defeat after 300+ billion in acquisitions.

Studio closures, never-ending mixed messages and bad PR, alienating business decisions that beg the question if they're trying to intentionally kill XBOX.

You really can't make this shit up. I was an avid Xbox fan till that E3 showing of ODLC vs Sony coming in with the PS3 redesign and a ton of exclusive games capped off with that Uncharted 2 presentation sealed the deal that I was switching to Playstation. Course Sony ruined all that but that's a different thread 🤣

Definitely, but I want a competitive Xbox division again like the 360. We can't afford to let Sony be more useless than they currently are.

In the grand scheme of things, you'll be fine.
