Also, if grass is the biggest differentiator for you here, then I guess small victories and all that, right?
I'm not concerned about grass; I'm just saying.

oh puhlease.
Having hi res texture doesn't really add anything to the gameplay. Having anti aliasing doesn't add anything to the gameplay. Having gorgeous lighting doesn't add anything to the gameplay. You can argue almost any individual element 'doesn't add anything to the gameplay' if you reaaly want to.
Maybe not for the last gen GTA 5, but when the whole point of the current gen versions is a REMASTER and is marketed heavily for it's "vast range of major visual and technical upgrades", you'd want to experience the best possible remaster possible on a console.
The XB1 is not that console.
Gameplay is identical - but that's not why the game was remastered, was it?.
I have both versions, and have noticed the lighting differences as well as the foliage and frame rate advantage (in general) to the PS4. If there has been a compromise on foliage, lighting etc on XB1, what else has been compromised?
It's the more polished version, and is the best remaster of this game on current gen consoles.
Does it do that with cops? Is it annoying?
What I don't understand, and it's largely my fault for communicating my point incorrectly, is that barring all else, and the only real difference is foliage density, why someone would base their purchasing decision on what is essentially nitpicking.
You're not gonna get a magically better game.

Just a few strands of grass here and there. Good job DF, as always.
This is okay and all, but I think the controller features of the PS4 version is what is really clutch imo. Who cares about grass? Lol

Is this what gamers have become?
WOW that's massive difference, basically Skyrim with and without mods!!!
Sad, isn't it...
I'm really glad I cancelled my xbone pre-order
I've been waiting to play the next-gen version of gta and they can't even get the grass right? Like how would someone feel if they were driving around and they noticed LESS GRASS? It'll seriously ruin the experience imo. I'm not supporting that shit. I really thought this would be GOTY 2 years in a row.
What kind of lighting differences?
You call that vegetation, Rockstar?
Ubisoft's attempt:

Ubisoft, Rockstar, Ubisoft.
Same game, one version looks better than the other, it only make sense to get the better looking PS4 version with better foliage and lighting. That's really the point. If anything, GTA V is more aesthetically akin to the contrast of political cartoony-ness and realism, in terms of its character design, but I digress.

Really? This is what it has come too.........comparing grass? God damn! Go play some games people!
I just arrived in this thread like 10 minutes ago and never really participate in DF threads, but for a game that heavily uses foliage, grass being almost important to the countryside as buildings and cars are to the city, and also heavily marketed improved foliage as part of its unique selling proposition while not showing one platform's capability of it, it's certainly a legitimate topic for anyone that does one to talk games.Really? This is what it has come too.........comparing grass? God damn! Go play some games people!

If I had to summarise it - the PS4 has much clearer lighting effects from reflections on the water and cars, to changing weather conditions (sunlight effects, rain etc etc), to how light interacts with your character and surrounds.
It's quite hard to put into words something that can be identified visually - but there is a difference.
The XB1 sort of looks like lighting received a 70% update, compared to the PS4's 100%.
Haha, had trouble finding animals I shot here....
That looks amazing.
I'm in the UK at the moment, does anybody know if UK PS4 games work on Australian PS4's?
Is that X1 version?
It is.
Had to swing the camera into the air to find a deer/buck. Couldn't see the darn thing.
Yeah definitelyIt is GOTY and you were not very smart for buying the weaker hardware if you care about tech differences. Not R*'s fault.

Rockstar borrowed some Liquid Lawn from Thatgamecompany.
In a GTA game, the amount of Grass is not a priority for me.
Now,
if this was the Red Dead Redemption Remastered version, Grass would be.
I'd be *throwing money at screen* for the Ps4 version.

(yes I was bored at work)

Nevermind the PS4 and Xbox One versions for a minute.
I cannot wait until the PC version comes out and hopefully it'll have sliders to max out not only the foliage, but the pedestrian & car traffic as well. In addition to the draw distance and perhaps even tessellation too. As well as everything else on ultra.
With the far greater CPU and GPU performance of high-end gaming PCs, a 60 FPS framerate, 4K resolution and sooner or later, graphic mods.
For those lucky enough to have high-end rigs with SLI or CrossFireX cards, ~4.5 GHz OC CPUs, etc it might be possible to get GTA V on PC to look like a similar leap beyond the PS4/Xbox One versions as those versions are over the 360/PS3 versions.
Grass. Per. Unit.

This almost makes me feel like "dare I say" Rockstar is purposely gimping the xb1 version in some area for comparison sake. Sony putting that extra PS+ money to use y'all.
