I'm relaxed about how the game will look come launch. It's the frame rate you should be worried about for the guys who want 60fps.

do they not do asset sharing at scewws? polyphony can't send them their models? i thought that was one of the reasons they brought those studios together.

Was just about o ask the same. It's INSANE if they ain't help each other with at least cars.

- there will be up to 20 members for one Club
- when you drive and race you get your "LV" points - AKA points that ranks you among the players, but they also add to your Club Ranking within game, but..
- ...now comes the twist: if you decide to go (migrate/transfer) from one Club to another, you are taking all your points with you to your new Club, while your previous Club's score and Club Ranking position is adjusted based on points you took with you
- so, basically, there will clearly be some crazy "MVP" things going on there, which is a great idea IMO

GTSurgeons Club vs NeoGaf Club will be spectacular :D

Wow this sounds great. I didn't think the social aspects will get me hyped

They way the game looks/runs right now its a NO BUY for me! But if they manage to upgrade it before the launch date I will buy it cause the idea and social component are realy great!

If Sony first parties don't share resources such as car models, I think that's a damn shame. What a complete waste of time and resources.

They're just gathering of different teams under one banner, they started some sharing on technology but asset sharing - it's a different story and level of interactions that need to happen.

PGR 3 from 2005. Yeah that sounded great back then. Now in 2013, I expect more cars especially on a new system.

It's an arcade racer. It doesn't need to (and shouldn't) be like GT/Forza, as long as there's a decent selection of cars with different behaviours, it's fine. It really doesn't need car porn.

Evolution need to release a video ASAP with in-game footage from their (supposedly) newer build to put our minds at rest, or they need to seriously WOW with a newer build at Gamescon.

Didn't PGR (can't remember which version) have a few Ferrari's etc?

Just got a confirmation from someone who's on the team that not only does the game look like that, it'll probably look better when it's released. HYPE.

Good, crows will be served ;). Tell your source what other Gaffers already mentioned, we need to see some gameplay footage from an up-to-date build.

I don't know if this has been posted here, but the game will have 50 cars and 54 tracks at launch.
Enough cars for me as long as there are Subarus in it.

I imagine those 54 tracks are cobbled together from a smaller number of environments. Like one environment will have 5 tracks running through it.

This is Evolution. They only get round to optimisation in the last three months.

Then dont show it!
If you cant deliver dont show us a crapy product! To me FM5 looked realy complete while Driveclub wasnt. I have hopes Evolution will manage to upgrade the game to 60fps and deliver great visuals!

Or people could just try to be patient and not bite on every doom and gloom baiting impression of the build from E3 that was only two weeks ago.

Every E3 before a console launch goes exactly like this.

They're not showing you a "crapy product" they're showing you WORK IN PROGRESS. If you're not an afficionado of the actual craft of making games, then don't look.

Do you look at half-built buildings and say "crapy product" simply because they're not finished?

54 tracks as in
- autumn ring,
- autumn ring mini,
- autumn ring long,
- autumn ring reverse mini,
- autumn ring electric boogaloo,
- ...?

that will probably be the case. Rather want to know the number of unique tracks/environments. That will probably be closer to 20-25 or something.

Getting hyped for this now. I never could get into driving sims like GT and Forza, but if this is more PGR style, it could be great/.

I want to real footage of the game, being played by someone that is half decent, not a replay, just raw gameplay and its not off-screen or being interrupted by an interview. Make it happen Evolution!

Two things..

1-I've been saying it for weeks. Remember guys, launch titles always suck and have less features than last gen games (see Forza 5 not having AH or storefront lol).

2-I'm totally for a racing game with more tracks than cars... This may sound weird but I don't really care for cars in a racing game lol. There might be 500+ cars in Forza or GT but in the end I'll use maybe 40-50 or those max... However I will have to race on every tracks multiple times so the more the merrier. For me the true gameplay is in the track, not the car. After a while all the cars kinda play almost the same anyway.

No no no, you misread. The guy *who put together the trailers*. Eamon Urtone (whose surname I pointed out as being on the numberplates in one of the shots) did basically all the footage editing/montages for all the games I mentioned, as well as a video or two for Sonic Transformed *and* the intro video ("It Starts") for FM4. He has a very characteristic way of editing footage and synching it with beat drops/slowdowns/build-ups in all the stuff he does.

For example:
PGR4 (Macau)
Blur (intro)
Blur ("Fast Track")
Sonic Transformed (E3 trailer)
Forza 4 ("It Starts")
DriveClub (E3 Trailer) (just noticed this was on Urtone's Vimeo page, which also has some of his other Bizarre ones)
and of course, Farewell Bizarre 1994-2011

*brofist* Number of cars is overrated. Reason I brought up the ~80 in PGR3 and ~120 in PGR4 is that I'm still yet to give every single car a good thrashing, but I don't feel like I'm repeating myself with any of them... yet with GT5 and FM4, there are ~1000 cars and I've tried (even just a quick lap somewhere) maybe ~100-150 of them.

Developers usually don't want to show you a work in progress until it's at a state that is a pretty good representation of what the game will be like because of what is going on here. If it's not ready to be shown, don't show it. I say this as someone who has been to 17 E3s, more than 25 shows, as a former member of the press and now current developer. Think about how often you see a work in progress that is so far off from the mark. I have hope things will get better as I was excited for the game but it's their fault or Sony's for showing it in the state it was or not controlling how it was shown which resulted in getting this negative impression.

So the alternative is that they show a teaser a few months ago, another trailer today and that's it? I dare not think of the hearsay that would develop if a game that's already had trailers shown didn't make any appearance whatsoever at E3. So they got out likely whatever was their most recent, playable, stable build.

Forza had poor framerate in the cockpit view and glitchy pop-in.

i'm going with 10 countries, each with 4 point to point stages and circuit/s like the wrc games.

the stages need to be nice and long, i don't want the 3 minute nonsense of wrc rushy, and what about a track creator?

A lot of games are shown teasers and trailers and then not shown on the show floor. Many games are shown behind closed doors. Many games are shown but aren't playable to the public. Many games are shown in a controlled environment to show off the strengths of the game. In the area that Drive Club was shown, they also had Killzone, Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed, and Infamous but they were all controlled demos. Drive Club was the only one you could directly play. On top of that, you waited in line, they sat you down, and didn't really tell you anything or explain anything to at least set the expectations.

If it wasn't ready, there are other shows coming up where they could show it off in a better state. If they had to show it, they could have done a better job of conveying their message. The end result that happened though was something that looked lackluster because of how they presented it to the public, and especially after what their initial trailer showed that looked not only impressive but different than the E3 demo.

Evolution is a great developer, but you have to remember they also showed Motorstorm in CG form which the final game did not end up matching so there's reason to wonder when you see the trailer not matching up to the demo.

They already said the game was at 35% and they have much more to go before launch .
I don't see what else they need to say about a unfinished product .
This just like when people said GOW3 look like a ps2 game and that was a demo that was more wide spread that this one and we all know how that turn out .
When the final games comes out and don't look as good then people can wonder what happen .

Nobody is saying that's the final product. But certainly people have a right to say it looked unimpressive visually and that it doesn't stack up compared to the competition nor the reveal trailer at its current form. You can't show what you have in that form and not expect negative impressions as a result. That's why most developers don't do it.

Picked up Motorstorm: Pacific Rift for five bucks the other day, and let's just say, I'm not too worried about DriveClub. MS: PR is just pure fun. I have faith DC will be the same.

At least, after seeing the bad impressions at E3, why didn't they tell something or show something more advanced to reassure people..

Evolution Studios, if you're reading this and I know this is way too early, but please think about a water based arcade racer for your next game. Would be a great way to really show off the PS4 with some sick looking water effects.

Can't wait for DriveClub. Evolution has not done any wrong yet. The MotorStorm series is easily the best arcade racers ever released. I bought a PS3 for MotorStorm Apocalypse and never regretted it. Then I had to have them all.

Motorstorm Apocalypse is my favourite racer this gen.

I've never doubted evolution and Pacific Rift was my fav arcade racer this gen. Apocalypse had cool ideas but PR is my favorite.

Only thing I've always wanted from evolution is more robust customization options for car and it seem ill be getting that in Drive club. Can't wait and free on plus is the cherry on top.

Games launching with the release of a new console have always been special cases, Marty. If you're going to try and bang me over the head with your impressive industry credentials, you should know there isn't really any time when console launch games are really "ready" to be shown outside of very near to the launch itself. And you know full well that taking that route wouldn't result in any less criticism in the interim

More to the point, we can be constructively critical of their progress and express valid concerns about whether they might be overly ambitious in their goals for a launch game without resorting to uselessly dismissive slags like "crappy product", which is just completely unappreciative of the developer's willingness to let us see their progress in the first place. Why should it strictly be the developer's responsibility to show some restraint and good judgment here?
