Respawn is probably the EA-adjacent studio in the most danger.
We'll see what happens with them I suppose.

Look at the thread titles:
Bethesda and 3 and a half under-performing games in a row
Gran Turismo Sport is extremely limited in offline mode (no saves, unlocks, etc..)
EA shuts down Visceral, moves Star Wars game to EA Vancouver/others
Resident Evil 7 Ships 4 Million Copies Worldwide (At 500K/2M FY goal by March 2018)
I think God is trying to tell us something today.
BOTW has a expansion pass and let us not forget the amibo bs.
There is a key difference though, the meat of those games, the reason people buy them, the singleplayer, is untouched by the GaaS multiplayer portion. The intent is the same. I mean, the point of those things is that ND is hoping that people continue to play (and pay for) MP in TLOU and Uncharted. It's not a bad thing. GAAS is not a bad thing. Plenty of great games are GAAS games.
There is a big difference between what they did with Uncharted 4 and TLOU and an actual GaaS game like Destiny. Its pretty obvious.
It looks like Sony will be the only one making AAA single player driven games right now. Unless that's going to change as well...

One of the best selling games this year was a AAA single player game and that was exclusive to one console. Before you all spell doom and gloom just know that whenever a company focuses all their effort to chase a fad, it always ends up backfiring.

Single player games will still exist for sure. If they are open world, offer 50+ hours of content, and have MXT and loot Boxes in them.
Outside of 1st party and Indies what example is there in the market of AAA single player linear focused games succeeding? The only major 3rd part publisher still trying, Bethesda, has had 3 misses in a row all with good quality games.
The market does not any longer support linear story based games
Cool. So we might actually get a SP Star Wars game in time for the next trilogy.
Don't lament a game that never existed.what about dead space 4...
Thanks guys. How on earth is Mario Kart considered part of that Category?

Literally every game coming out now qualifies as games as a service. From witcher 3 to overwatch. Games that are constantly updated with new gameplay changes, modes, items and DLC. I personally enjoy GaaS more than one and done single player experiences and they are often played more and sell more by the masses. Some of the highest selling games of the year (Ghost Recon and injustice 2) are GaaS.WTF is this new GaaS thing i read everywhere on GAF all of the sudden?
Google Search only bought Generally Accepted Auditing Standards
This is a bummer, Visceral was responsible for Dead Space 2, one of my favorite games ever. I would have loved to see their Star Wars project.
No.ALL of those are examples of GAAS!
Basically why spend so much on a single player game when we can change it to open world with loot boxes and microtransactions or even add multiplayer etc. Fuck EA. The worst publishers by a mile.
When Sony is done with single player games there won't be very many AAA games left for my tastes.
It already looks like such a mistake that EA has the exclusive Star Wars license.
Everything I read about Hennig's Star Wars game honestly sounded awful.

That seems like a lot of caveats to make the point of single-player "dying." Optional loot boxes that I don't have to collect, for example, isn't much of a concern for me when I'm playing a game, single-player or not. The Shadow of War loot boxes aren't much of a concern to me, for example. That it's open-world doesn't bother me (I've loved open-world since I first played Pirates!), and whether it's first party or not isn't much of a concern as long as it's quality. So by and large, single-player is quite abundant, and the money I've spent this year on it, plus look to spend next year, is staggering.
I wouldn't disagree that many AAA publishers are chasing multiplayer games such as Overwatch or Anthem. But there was a time where many were chasing the platformer, or chasing GTA clones, or chasing Halo clones, or chasing motion controls (how many people thought we'd be stuck with nothing but Kinect-like games around 2010). And many huge games, such as Halo or Gears or Goldeneye or Starcraft, supported multiplayer content that ended up being what gamers played for years on end. This just seems like another change in the multiplayer arena, but hardly a shift so massive that single-player games are done, especially with the amount of developers creating games in all spheres. Whether I'm playing an Uncharted or a Sonic Mania (which is neither indie nor AAA), if it's a good single-player experience, then great.
ALL of those are examples of GAAS!
No.
They are singleplayer games with a separate service driven multiplayer. GaaS is like Destiny, PUBG, Shadow of Mordor, etc.
Actually, that's incorrect.No.

EA overall has a portfolio of hit games that reach a broad audience. For someone like Kennedy they're an ideal choice for Star Wars from a business perspective. It's not about how gamer's feel. What? That's stupid, I'm just popping in to say that it's not entirely unfair to bring her name up here. Obviously EA is the one now calling all the shots, but we all the probable downsides that would come from giving an exclusive license to EA.
Name more than two the last SP games this gen that sold over 10million?
Partners.

It's such a shame the way the industry is heading. Linear, story driven, adventure games are my favourite type of games! There were so many great games like that last gen, but they are getting fewer and fewer
