Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

The Galdean Empire has edged out other nations and discovered a technology that amplifies the rune-lenses’ magic. Now, the Empire is scouring the continent for an artifact that will expand their power even further. It is on one such expedition that Seign Kesling, a young and gifted imperial officer, and Nowa, a boy from a remote village, meet each other and become friends. However, a twist of fate will soon drag them into the fires of war, and force them both to reexamine everything they believe to be right and true.

Played a bit during my lunch break today, it seems like I'll enjoy it a lot... But damn, it looks soft on PS5 and it also has what are possibly the worst shadows I've seen in a game for a while.

Hopefully they fix all of that soon.

What time is it?
Played to the first achievement (friendship attack) and boy does it like to cut to an exposition scene every few steps.

Looks like they gave me a PC/Steam code despite putting in PS5 when I backed the project. Really frustrating as I don’t own a PC.

Sent some messages to Yetee and to the studio (via kickstarter) but looks like I won’t be able to play the game until they sort this all out despite backing the project.

So is this about 30-35 hours? If so, that's encouraging honestly.
HowLongToBeat says 45-60, but it's hard to say since the game just came out today and that's based on user submissions

I'm 10 hours in. It's okay but the localization damages the tone of the game. Had to cut myself down from being too critical of the game looking like a unity asset flip. At its core it is a Suikoden successor but it won't match 2 but it may be equal with the first game.

(I've only played the first two Suikoden games. I ain't playing a 3D Suikoden. Hell naw.)

Unfortunately I bought the PS4 Version (Digitally)

I should have gotten the game on Steam so I could wait for fan translation mod before I play it

Auto battle lets you chill and grind. My gripe is being aware of two things 1. Localization issues and 2. Critics 🤮

This is great for old school JRPG fans. When I go back to play classic RPGs like these I don’t tend to read a lot of reviews because it’s like “there’s people who think this genre is crap for not doing something more modern”. I didn’t buy this because it’s a modern JRPG.

This. If I wanted to I could boot up my Vita and play Suikoden 1 or 2 again.

Y'all we need to talk!!! I am absolutely livid... I am OUTRAGED at how racist this game is, I am literally shaking right now.

The Kangaroo and Crocodile people in this game are only voiced by Australians what about other people???... Implying that Australians are all either Kangaroos or Crocodiles is so offensive.
I love the fact Aussies voice the kangaroos 🤣

Played through the first hour, liking it so far. Not a huge fan of the "everyone selects their move, then combat happens" thing, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Also funny playing another game where the main characters are Nowa (Noah) and Mio, same as Xenoblade 3.

Sad to hear that this game got Hogwarts treatment from the other side of the fences. All that hardwork by the artists, designers, writers are treated like nothing because they hate the work of a translator.

Btw, the game just got patched. Any patch notes to read?

Beat it the other day without use of a guide. Took me 80 hours with the best ending.
I haven’t gone back to it after putting 7-8 hours into it. I started a couple other games and then Stellar Blade/Hades II 🤷. I thought about replaying Suikoden II for a moment, but I had just gotten a powerful party member in this (smh). How would you rank it?

I bailed out 30 minutes in or so because it’s random battles. Sorry, not sorry, the genre evolved from this awful idea long ago.

This isn’t something that should exist in any games ever again.
Around 8 hours into the game, we can buy 50% up/down encounter rate and they stack. So we can avoid random battle after the party reached the required level for the dungeon which usually 4-5 battles

This isn’t a solution to the issue overall, and I don’t want to sludge through 8 hours.

Maybe I try the game again later on when I’m more open minded, but for now random battles is an automatic no.

Better than Suikoden 1, not as good as Suikoden II. The potential is there, cringe localization aside it's less savage on timed events for character recruitment but there's several characters tied behind side quests that can take hours to do. I'd give it like an 8 but it never hit the narrative highs of the second game.

(Only played the first two Suikoden games. Not interested in the 3D ones.)

I'm almost done with the game

I'll be able to finish it in around 70 to 75 hours. I'm finishing it tonight

I was able to get all the optional characters. That race minigame was one of the most annoying minigame I came across. The controls sucked but somehow I finally figured it out and managed

Question

Is there a way to make the racing minigame easier? I'm trying to recruit Scarlet but the controls in the minigame suck

I've been playing on Steamdeck
I found that always putting pressure forward on the stick will help. I found when turning is when my ship would spin out and fuck up. And I realized it was because I wasn't giving the ship forward power. So, never fully letting go of the gas is how I won all of the races.

My only problem currently is recruiting Reid. Beigoma is such an unbalanced piece of shit game.

I was able to recruit Scarlet. I figured that out. Also I suck at racing games. So that minigame was a challenge

I just finished the game last night and got all 120 characters. So I got the best ending

Beigoma was fun but yeah it is unbalanced

Fantastic game but it does have issues
I'm not going in expecting it to be a Suikoden slayer, so I'm sure I'll like it, but I'm leaving the opportunity to be surprised and even love it. Suikoden 1,2,5 are all in my top 10 RPGs all time though so I never expected it to be a game that would challenge Suikoden. I'm just going to appreciate it for what it is. And who knows, maybe I'll like it as much.

Every game store I've gone into in Japan has had a big display of this game. Almost all Switch copies, some PS4 maybe 90/10 split. Xbox practically doesn't exist here.

That being said, I've also seen quite a few second hand copies here going for under 2000 yen (about $13) which means people are trading in or selling back the Switch version in droves.
