[Weekly sales of software and hardware] “Stellar Blade” starts at the top! The latest works of "Hyakyuuden'', "Forever Blue'' Saga and "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba'' are also in the top 10 [4/22-5/5]​


Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time we bring you a summary of estimated weekly game software and hardware sales from April 22, 2024 to May 5, 2024.

Due to the aggregation period the ranking is based on the total of 2 weeks.

In this week's ranking, 6 of the top 10 titles are new titles (5 titles if counted by model). Among them, "Stellar Blade" took first place .

This is an action-adventure produced by South Korean developer SHIFT UP and it got off to a good start, receiving positive reviews for its attractive characters and stylish sci-fi action.

Next in 2nd and 5th place are the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 versions of the new RPG Hyakyuuden, created by the creators of various hit titles such as the "Suikoden'' series. In third place is "Forever Blue Luminous'', the latest work in the marine adventure series that allows you to freely explore the ocean .

In 6th place is the latest title in the 35-year-old RPG Saga series, "Saga Emerald Beyond'' and in 7th place is "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba'', a board game based on the popular anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Aim! The strongest soldier!

The game was reported out of stock at a lot of stores for a few days, so it may be a case of the game being undershipped. 67k for two weeks, from a brand new IP and from an unproven developer in the console market, is not anything less than solid though. Those are still fine numbers.

Overall Golden Weeks looks pretty unremarkable across the board.

Obviously no weekly percentage increases/decreases for software and last years golden week was weeks 18+19 so no last year comparison.

Not apples to apples since it's 2 weeks of tracking versus just one week, but Stellar Blade performed quite well vs similar action titles considering the physical was also sold out so people most likely went for the digital version or just waited for the game to be restocked.

Not great for 2 weeks with a holiday. But Switch still surprise for late in its gen. PS5 barely up is sad..

Not that great of a Golden Week. Switch hardware is decent, but the Japanese really needs Switch 2 and some game announcements.

Probably because one is open world and the other is more a character action game.

Switch will continue to fall behind last year as there is no title that can match Tear of the Kingdom's results in H1'23. The June direct will provide us an idea about how far behind this year will be compared to 23, current forecasts from Nintendo hint at a big game for the fall.

PlayStation Ecosystem had a better start of the year thanks to new exclusive releases like VII Rebirth, Infinite Wealth, Ronin, P3R, DDII & Stellar Blade. However no game launching later this year is likely to come close FFXVI's last year performance. Biggest title for the rest of the year seems like Elden Ring Expansion which isn't going to move that much on the physical charts and is available on PC.

I'm hoping we see some big games for Japan at either the Nintendo Direct or PS Showcase to liven things up.
