GT is pretty much finished as a series. This was their last chance.
Nah, every franchise has bad spin-offs, GT7 will define the future of the franchise as we know it.

Dark1x from DF made it into the Quick Look!
Game will probably have a Driveclub situation, come back later for an immensely better game.
I think Sony should spin-off the brand to other games, just like how we now have Forza Horizon.
Kaz can take his own sweet time with the mainline game and another studio can fill the gaps with something less serious.
Back before Driveclub became a delay-fest I'd suggested to friends that Sony should bring the game under the Gran Turismo umbrella. Too late for that now.
But if Sony had its own Horizon/PGR Gran Turismo that wouldn't be a bad move would it?

Why are people already claiming GTS dead body?
There's a incredible amount of 10 reviews factored in the metascore and the game launched 2 days ago.
We don't know shit about how the sales/legs/general perception will be in 1, 3 or 6 months.
If you don't like it and won't buy it, that's OK. But assuming that this will a sure flop is really dumb.
Feels weird to not want a new GT game. I bought all of the mainline games except for 6 (terrible timing). GT3 is still my second most played game of all time. But GT:S has completely put me off. It's just not what I want in a GT game. I've never cared about racing against other people.
This, in Kaz's eyes is GT7. They named it Sport to indicate the shift in focus, and as a bonus they have a nice fallback plan to be able to bring out a "proper" GT7 with all the features you'd expect from a GT game in the future if this game does not get received well in the casual market. Why the spinoff though? GT sells millions and I'm sure a version on PS4 is what most people would have wanted.
Thing is GT Sport isn't even bad, just very different.
At it's core, the handling, game performance, sound, graphics amd overall polish is the best GT has ever been.
The issues come from the big changes that some people don't like and the slightly over harsh DRM. Hopefully things can be fixed and improved but even with it's issue, it's far from bad in it's current state.
Looking at the structure of the game I can 100% guarantee that GT:S will never be offline. Its definitely a service game and surprised no reviews have picked up on that.

Beyond usual Giantbomb apathy towards things they don't like, I think the identity crisis point is a real big one.

Heh, I just noticed that as well whilst watching itDark1x from DF made it into the Quick Look!
I was where you were before I played the demo. I had no desire to play against others online. But with the penalty system, races are actually fairly clean, the netcode is amazing, and it provides a level of competition and excitement that the old AI races can't approach. I was in a race last night on Sukuza East in my Ferrari 458 Gr.4 and battled from 15th up to 9th. Didn't get close to the top, but it was still an amazing experience.
From the perspective of pure content and SP events, sure it's really light right now. But in terms of racing excitement, it's about the most fun I've ever had with a GT game.
It's really a big point because simulation-wise they're not up there with the esteblished sims like rFactor2 and iRacing, way not up there.Beyond usual Giantbomb apathy towards things they don't like, I think the identity crisis point is a real big one.
The Encarta facts contrast pretty heavily with the THIS IS A SERIOUS RACING GAME ABOUT SERIOUS ONLINE COMPETITION stuff, which feels like it's compensating for not having anything for casual/traditional fans, but where it matters, in the car list and campaign stuff, there's nothing compensatory to be seen.
Lol oh the **** that would have happened if DC was GT Horizon. That thread would be epic and more people than here saying, it isnt what I wanted. Just imagine the shitstorm that would have happened over just the base game let alone the faulty servers from the start.I think Sony should spin-off the brand to other games, just like how we now have Forza Horizon.

If you want to be really serious, why not go all the way?
Ok, I guess I know the answer and it's that you're entirely uncompetitive with a controller and need a wheel for those.
And yea, that GB Quick Look really was something... boy.
yup...this reception is clearly from the casual audience who wants the old campaign back. Why are people already claiming GTS dead body?

The game is truly built for this super niche group of serious online simulation enthusiasts that also REALLY like photography and REALLY like the history of automobiles, but not enough that they'd want to drive anything but the limited selection of modern cars in the game... Some of these gameplay decisions really don't pan out unless you're the .01% in skill.
Bigger than iRacing for sure, but not as big as "put turbos on 80s Ford Fiesta".There are probably more people interested in the sim aspect but don't want to invest fully into what games like that demand but want the quality racing and competitive element they provide. Its the sim-lite where GT made its mark not being a true sim and the format found in GT:S are exactly that, refined and improved all playable from a DS4. The sim-lite is the bigger market.
Not necessarily. There is a fair chance that soon you will be matched with players exactly at your skill and fairness level and if it's fun there for you, it's probably fun for them too ...and then enough people of all skill levels will stick with game. This is the fundamental problem with online competitive games for me - above and beyond the shit headery, which is inevitable, Im not good enough to compete realistically. Maybe up front there will be some middling players like me but it will soon crystallize to the best.
thats kinda the point of the game though, to prove that more people can be part of that 0.1%, driving isnt that hard, and its really fun once you learn how to do it properly.Oh god, the pretense and condescension in these videos they force you to watch before playing online, SMH

EDIT: And no quick match online either? lololololol
EDIT: Yeah this Quicklook is really breaking down some fundamental issues with the online gameplay, which is a focus of the title as well. Some of these gameplay decisions really don't pan out unless you're the .01% in skill.
SR system seems broken or questionable at the very least.
yup...this reception is clearly from the casual audience who wants the old campaign back.
The whole point of the game if for people to drive clean and respectful you dont see much of that in online racers. What the heck at those 2 mandated videos before you can go online racing lol
Just a videogame geezus. This is from someone who has had real track time with HPDE.

But still, you are right and I hope things will work out for PD and the DS4 sim-lite online sport crowd.
I don't know how you prove to people that driving isn't hard if you limit people to race on 3 track/race configurations with other human drivers per week (+ championships which aren't always active), and have a sportsmanship system that penalizes you when someone else rams you. It's got major issues with the one thing it prides itself at being good at in the place of breadth and depth elsewhere.thats kinda the point of the game though, to prove that more people can be part of that 0.1%, driving isn't that hard, and it's really fun once you learn how to do it properly.
Seems to like a cool concept to me, they named it GTS so it's a proper spinoff despite Kaz's comments. Reall, I hope this works out well and is the future of the franchise. The old campaign can so easily be added back in, but I do hope they keep pushing to make online racing more and more enjoyable.
Some years ago, I played SF online for the first time and got destroyed. I never thought I could come close to competing. Today, I can hold my own against Pro players in the current SF game. I can't even imagine just getting a fighter to play through Arcade mode like I did as a kid, so unfulfilling now. GTS makes me want to learn how to drive well. Whether it has that effect on enough ppl for success is anyone's guess.

I feel like this game doesnt respect my time at all. So much time waiting around for races to start...
Casual audience for GAF is someone who completed Nier Automata, complains theres not enough PS1 classics on PS4 and describes online multiplayer as niche. And remembers a GT game from 10 years ago.
Casual audience outside of GAF is someone who plays GTA online, FIFA online, Destiny 2 online, and has been watching Battleroyale on twitch in anticipation for its release on console. And remembers a GT game from 10 years ago ... because his older brother/sister played it.
So watching two short vids gonna make everyone a clean and respectable racer. Sure. The whole point of the game if for people to drive clean and respectful you dont see much of that in online racers.
It will probably sell way way more than other sim racing franchise... so how is it the last chance?GT is pretty much finished as a series. This was their last chance.
You have to consider the much lower install base of xbox one (and the high recommended requirements on the Win10 store). And upping the hp number by ~10% without changing parts and sound on the newest sport car models is not the tuning that crowd really wants. It will be interesting to see especially as FM looks more focused on that side.
You can still do the upgrading as well as downgrade in GT:S but it uses a different system. This allows for a bit of flexibility in the N class races (same as N class in FIA rules) but the Gr class races (The standard GT classes in FIA rules) are balanced.
GT is pretty much finished as a series. This was their last chance.
So I guess GT7 isn't coming out till 2019 at the earliest? Might as well save it for PS5 then.
You realise the lowest recent selling GT game (6M) GT6 outsold Forza 5&6 combined! And those parricular Forza games were some of the most loved titles by game reviewers.
GT5 was hated by many reviewer and that still sold over 10M.
Review scores and driving games sales and are not linked.
2019 is probably optimistic for these inefficient bastards. 2020 at the earliest, hell 2022 could happen. Definitely not on current gen.
Not with GTS model. They released 3 games last gen. I think another GT on this gen is a given.

seriously lol, the videos are like 5 mins long combined and basically "don't be bad!"
