A bit unrelated but do they usually announce the Halo consoles this far back from release?
It was an E3 demo. Almost ALL E3 demos are like that. The game has TONS of very wide open spaces and MORE multi-route approaches than ever before, and a matrix of options created by squad and co-op mechanics.
And with the bolded - come on dude, you KNOW I'm in here having a conversation with you.
A video game is a 16:9 piece of bubble gum, and in the final stages of development, you grab the top and bottom of that piece of gum and pull. Our final resolution will be the result of final polish, iteration and significant optimization. You should expect ALL our IQ to improve before launch. There's zero permanent resolution information to take away from E3.
Hate seeing good work undone.
And no, I didn't realize I was having a conversation with you and it's not directed at one individual, it's directed at the entire focus-tested to death direction of the project. It's a huge bummer to me, personally. Halo 1 is my favorite game of all time, Halo my favorite series of all time, and since 343's initial sequel with 4 I've seen the things I love about the series pushed to the side in favor of a tone, flavor, attitude, focus, whatever you wanna call it, that leaves this game and this demo and these trailers nearly unrecognizable. If I didn't know this was a sequel to a series I love, it wouldn't have even been a blip on my radar this E3.
What happens if you split the gum to share the experience?A video game is a 16:9 piece of bubble gum, and in the final stages of development, you grab the top and bottom of that piece of gum and pull.

Any chance we get the vidoc soon?
Have you checked out The Sprint?

no, not yet, let me youtube it!
thanks... (the sprint implies what here? XP development cycles?)

You're entitled to that opinion but that is not the content of the post I responded to. You didn't like that it was a scripted tunnel and I explained the well known e3 demo reasoning and that this section is not representative of a whole.
Dev cycles, indeed. Season 1 (Beta) is on YouTube, season 2 (E3 reveal content) is currently Halo Channel app exclusive
Fair warning, but I thought the two new episodes were mildly spoilerish. If you've been following the game closely its fine, but if you want to stay somewhat in the dark about the game's early character motivations and story beats you might want to delay watching em.Dev cycles, indeed. My skepticism aside of the E3 showpiece, it was really cool to see how it was build behind the scenesespecially showing how bugs can come out of nowhere and put a wrench in production. Also appreciated that the Creative Director at least went on record that the E3 presentation was slice-of to show the new things within the game. Still, I dont feel they hit the goals they were setting out to achieve. It, kind of, made it look like a generic game, while there probably more going on that is much more exiting.
I guess the problem from the outside looking in is that there's very little innovation in Halo5 as an FPS to make it stand out.

I've been a huge fan of the original series myself. Love the lore, got into the books, and still play some classic Halo 1 with friends of mine. With that being said, I absolutely love the direction 343i is taking with Halo 5. This is something I've always wanted from my favorite series and over 40 hours of the beta has reassured me that this game is going to be amazing.
More like Halo's traditional storytelling vignettes. They'll transition in to reveal or propel plot elements. If you played the whole of that Campaign level (apart from being much, much less "scripted") you'd have a more meaningful context for the bridge collapse.
The fact that they, intentionally or not, took queues from Republic Commando is AWESOME.

Jesus, I just watched this on big TV. 343, the HUD on Locke takes up loads of screen real estate. Please give us an option to make it transparent like previous halos.
Seriously, not great.
After watching The Sprint episode that showed them working on this I know that they really are going for immersion but I expect a lot of people to complain about it. I personally do not mind but a lot of gamers hate anything crowding their screen.
EDIT: And if nothing else, you've still got my money just based off the legacy of Bungie's work. This will be the least hyped I've been going into any Halo campaign since I first picked up an Xbox controller.
Take a percentage of my TV is not immersive for me. An option in the menus would satisfy everyone I think.

Yeah, I love all of that stuff. The feel of being in Spartan armor, 343 nails it, in visual and audio design, and in all the small touches that put you right into that space. However, i though it was REALLY cool in H4 that we were inside the Cheifs helment and not just a layover hud filling my screen. that was sick. Felt like i was realyl wearing a helmet, in the cheifs eyes.
Thank goodness you clarified in exactly which ways you meant to insult their work.
They'll probably accomodate this. From the history of how they are making this game. a lot of feedback seems to have trickled in and altered many, many things.
Things we don't even know about yet either! haha

Sprint came on last night right after the XBOX DAILY. go to the halo channel NOW!

LOL. I already did that a little earlier.
Here's big question I have for anyone who might be able to answer:
Do you have to push lots of buttons in the campaign? And if so, does camera control get taken away each time ala Halo 4, or does the action just happen instantly ala Halo 1 through Reach?

When does The Sprint episode 2 come out?
Just curious, why show it that way then?
Non halo fans aren't impressed because it looks like the same scripted crap in COD and BF and etc that we've seen since 2007. Oh no, the main character may fall off a ledge! I hope he survives or the game will be over!
Halo fans are pissed because it doesn't seem like halo.
I have owned and beaten every Halo FPS released, some over a dozen times. The stuff in the e3 demo really turned me off to the point where I probably would have not gotten it, or at least waited until it was cheap.
If it's not representative of the game and the reaction is on the spectrum of indifference to anger, what was the point?
Theres 4 new episodes available on the Halo Channel right now.
The thing is though, its another one of those miscommunications on the huge laundry list of messaging mistakes made by 343. I wish they hit it out of the ballpark for once, and avoid the whole Mistakes were made, but we promise you that next time it will be better. That lip service almost becomes a joke after awhile, and its hard to take them seriouseven when they finally get their act together. Its just tiring for both sides, they are absolutely passionate about their product but they have to deal with disgruntled people who wont take their word. Which is a huge downer, because they just want to do their best and believe they are. The fans who are pessimistic want the best, but are prepared for disasterand who cant blame em, history has told them enough.Really a shame, the whole E3 demo thing. You got five minutes on live TV in front of minutes to quickly show off your game, so you end up with the safest, most scripted, most boring-ass version of your game to a bunch of gamers. The overall reaction to that campaign demo has been a resounding "MEH". And worse, it looked like all the things people about Halo 4(scripted moments taking control away from the player, highly linear game design, etc).
Which sucks, because apparently it does indeed have those wide-linear style of level designs and multiple paths, that dynamic and varied AI, the big distinctive sandbox of weapons and vehicles, the character and humor the series interjects, there's even a big ass Scarab thing in that trailer at the end that seems like a real moving target you can climb aboard like Halo 3.
I'm sure in a couple months, at Gamescom, without the pressure of a five minute spot in a live conference, they can begin to show what makes Halo 5's campaign special, and correct many of the problems from Halo 4.
In one of Halo's 'The Sprint' episodes one of the devs talks about wanting to make that run through falling debris sequence something more than your standard linear asplosion demo reel footage, but that's exactly how it came out, made worse by the fact that other stage demos use the same basic template of linear spectacle ending with the big-bad knocking the player down and moving in for the kill. Its such worn territory now that its not doing any of these games any favors. If it's not representative of the game and the reaction is on the spectrum of indifference to anger, what was the point?
1) How would we know this? We haven't play the game yet.
2) Did you read up on the details of the mission "Blue Team" from Game Informer's coverage? Yes? Then you should be able to see what 343 did with the demo (as ... not as good as it could have been) is not a reflection on the entire campaign.
Do we get another campaign footage before launch that will show us the open spaces and multiple paths, hopefully some Blue Team material? You're entitled to that opinion but that is not the content of the post I responded to.
