A debate that raised out of the blooming first person shooting genre is whether or not camping--staying in a specific position for extended amounts of time to gain the upperhand--is a legitimate tactic.
There are so many differing opinions about camping, and some are even hypocritical in context.

I myself have done my fair share of camping, primarily in Turok Rage Wars for the Nintendo 64 , as well as the wide array of Call of Duty games for 360/PS3/PC/Wii U.

In spite of that, though, I generally hate campers. I feel that if they should do anything, they should rush the enemy team instead of just waiting on their damn lawn chairs with popcorn, occasionally pressing the trigger.

Yeah, camping is indeed is part of the game. Yeah, people WILL do whatever they have to in order to win. Doesn't make it anymore enjoyable, though! I counter-camp when need be, and I'll camp if my team is sucking incredibly badly and I feel confident in myself. But otherwise? Nope, I don't camp and I spite those who do. 😉

But, how do you stand on the matter? Is camping legitimately part of the game and something people have to get used to, or do you consider it cheating? Maybe you have a different view of it?

Camping is part of the game, but you're lame if you do it

I'd play fps games if they let me camp even more than I already do. I wanna go prone on top of a mountain in a bush like a kilometre away from everyone else and snipe people the entire match with no lens flare or button you can spam to spot me

As part of the Quake master race, players of the best FPS ever made in history, I don't even know what camping is. I look down with a blend of pity and disgust at the unwashed masses playing COD, BF and CS who engage in such lowly acrivities.

I dont play multiplayer but I can"t imagine just waiting to shoot unaware players is fun for both side.

Unless people care more about winning more than having fun.

It's situational. Snipers can't run and gun. They're campers by design. If there's a map with a lot of open area and a small amount of close-quarters area and you have a shotgun, camping is going to make far more sense as going out in the open is almost certainly a death sentence.
