Being called uncle in South Africa is a term of respect, like saying sir, it doesn't really reflect age and more reflects an older/experienced person. You can be 20 and be uncle or 80.

So younger staff calling you uncle or oom is usually a good thing

It's the same in China, kids calling you Uncle means your a nice older man.

Isn't Unc more a derogatory term for someone older who thinks they can still kick it with the zoomers but it's just out of touch or incredibly cringe.

A great example of an Unc in this case is Cristiano Ronaldo.

Brazilians calls their friends as "dad", if you're over 18 you could be called "uncle" by children, and in schools there's no age to call other "uncle" or "aunt"

Personal facts: I was like 19 or 20 and got the duty of picking a friend's daughter from school. She was very energetic and said something like "uncle Derik, let's go home running!"

Yesterday another friends daughter wanted to see Moana and trade Fifa cards, and I went full fun uncle with her, with gelato, McDonald's and playing in the mall
