I just finished the first 3 Layton games, but I'd really prefer Wright over Layton (or both ) specially since it would be a good sign for more Wright games coming to NA (and the Layton series already ended)
So I looked up videos of Jump Superstars DS...and it seems alright. It has Yami, Yo, as playable characters I recognized and maybe Light tho that may have been an assist. But it doesn't play like Smash. Gameplay seems pretty good but theres no percentage going up to knock opponets off as far as I could tell, just an hp meter i think. So its not really a Smash game. Plus the maps were so too big. So again, there are no Smash games besides Smash. I did do a double take at the Playstation versions. 3D makes the maps even bigger.
I do hope for a Indie crossover game to be made but who knows if any indies could afford it. Maybe a kickstarter someday.
Thinking about it more, he actually seems to just be trying to smooth it over. He implies from it that the lines were for Smash, he just doesn't know if they'll be used or not.
Voice actors go into projects not knowing what they're recording for, or even who they're playing, all the time. I remember reading somewhere that Kyle Hebert (Ryu's English VA) only figured out he was recording for Ryu when he had to read a "Hadouken;" until then, he just knew he was playing a martial artist.
So, it's still possible that he recorded fighting game-y grunts and kiais for something else. Still, he definitely thinks he recorded something for an action-heavy game, and his response makes it clear that, at the very least, he was in-character as Layton. Unless the Professor's the other guest character in Killer Instinct Season 3, I can't think of any other game Layton would be in that would require voice clips like that.
I really hope Mr. Miller doesn't get in trouble for this. And I hate to say it, but I still kind of wish this wasn't spoiled for me. Every single trailer for Smash was hype enough as it is, but only Rosalina, Greninja, and Robin/Lucina were revealed without at least a verified leak hinting at the character prior. I mean, I still got excited by Jr.'s and DHD's trailers, and by that point, the game was already out! A character like Layton would've been mindblowing; here's hoping the next DLC character isn't as heavily-telegraphed before the reveal.
Ignoring Wolf, of course; I think it's unanimously agreed upon that he's next.
It is okay.
Famicom Detective Club sure, but for Kyle Hide I think a less goofy moveset would be more suitable. Is Kyle Hide a first party character btw?
I think so. Hotel Dusk should be Nintendo IP but unfortunately CING went bankrupted. I would guess that the IP is dead right now, along with other IPs.
I really don't want to sound rude, but I think it's a little premature to assume this means nothing. I mean, the first tweet makes it clear that Mr. Miller recorded lines as Layton for something action-oriented. They respond as if the uncertainty in the second tweet invalidates everything from the first, but it's typical for a voice actor to not know what game (s)he's recording for.
From what I gathered in the second tweet, I think Miller recorded for something that he's pretty sure is Smash 4, but he wanted to go back and say that he wasn't 100%. He was probably just called back in to do work, was given a script, and was told nothing more than to read everything as Layton. Smash 4 is probably a safe assumption, if he had to be Layton in an action-oriented, dialogue-less situation, but he didn't want everyone to think Layton was in just because he thought he was in it.
Oh man, if Snake's the one DLC character who can get in without being leaked, that'd be fantastic! Especially if he's added in free with an update, and without any announcement prior, like he snuck into the game. For once, Nintendo's lack of patch notes could be good for something!

Even if Snake got in the game, he wouldn't be for free. Granted, I'm pretty sure that's just wishful thinking, but Nintendo's gonna go for our wallets before they let us have Snake (if at all).
Kinda a different situation. Krystal's VA DID record new lines for Brawl, they were just in the easter egg dialogue in Space Armada. Layton, as a third party, couldn't really be in and fully voiced and be anything less than a character. It would be silly to negotiate the rights and record dialogue and everything else and then just make him an easter egg or assist trophy or whatnot.
It's safe to say that if Layton's VA recorded dialogue that was for Smash Bros. (which it sounds like he did!) Layton is playable DLC in Smash Bros.
I don't particularly look forward to the endless Layton business going forward. Unlike the Rayman hoax, there's no real end to this that will satisfy believers save the end of Smash DLC.
I wonder if Level 5 just had him record lines so they could build a model of Layton for Smash and try and offer Nintendo free use of the character in the game.
Smart use of advertising, anyone who comes in Smash their games become instantly popular because Smash fans become interested what game they come from.
I still think a Yokai Watch rep would be a wiser decision on Nintendo's side.
