So, I'm the person who usually makes RE7 topics because I'm very excited personally for it. But I'll try to give an objective answer.
Preview wise, the game has been doing excellently. Recently a number of press media outlets got to play 4-5 hours of RE7, and all of them were incredibly positive. Some went as far to say it was not only good but one of their favorite gaming experiences of the year, some saying if the rest of the game is as good as the 4-5 hours they played it'll be an easy 10/10 (like literally what they said, that's not me paraphrasing a review score statement in), a serious GOTY contender if the rest of the game is as good as the chunk they played, and that it's the first Resident Evil in a long time not chasing other game's tails and really comes out on its own.
However, there's a lot of people more skeptical still. Many don't like the first-person view, many don't think it looks like Resident Evil, there's many action fans who are upset that RE7 has seemingly ditched them, some people think the demo was dull and don't want an RE7 like the demo, some think the game looks boring to them or lacking what they like about the RE games from what they've seen. Capcom have also been apparently holding off showing us most of the game, which has some anxious or the full game or think they're hiding something, or hoping what's not been show is in their taste, etc. So there's been a lot of skepticism as well.
Others, which include myself in this camp, are interested, excited, or highly anticipating. Since this is the field I'm in, I'll speak more subjectively than objectively, but I think RE7 has the potential to be something really special. I've thought this for a while, it's not just another first-person horror game chasing the indie titles like many think it is in my opinion (but I play more of these indie first-person horror games than most so I might have a better eye for it and experience with the genre than most), and I think they're tailoring an interesting Resident Evil experience that pulls from the series past, classic horror, modern horror, and its own unique spins. And I and I know others are getting more excited for it as more news and bits come out.
I think in some ways RE7 has an uphill battle to face, and I think in actuality many are taking a, "wait and see," approach. But I think it's good news all the people who played a good chunk of the game are glowing about it, and I think RE7 has the potential to be great. Given I don't form my actual opinion until I've played and beaten a game.
