MGS2 HD source code leaked

I don't think this will amount to anything more than a novelty. There are already ports (2) for PC and practically every console released since the PS2. Besides, creating a port based on leaked code would be illegal.

Finally got the thing working, lots of build scripts needed work, region hacking, windows stubs which needed conversion / implementation, proper code pages used for execution charset. Works pretty well although it needs some love to make it a better experience on PC. Not sure why they didn't make a PC port of the HD collection seeing as its ready right here to go.

Look at what just got restored

Edit: Fake

Heh, yeah, funny way to fake people out.

What was actually restored was the "flooding water" effect seen in the E3 trailer but frustratingly not included in the real game, in either playable or cutscene form.

What we all imagined was going to be a really cool sequence of escaping the flooding tanker, with a wall of water and a rapidly descending play field sinking into the ocean (and maybe if they had time Kojima's team might have intended to do it?) was actually just a splashing effect repeated from different angles to hint at the rushing water which never came. There wasn't even sound effects attached to the effects of this triggered event, it was apparently just a trailer moment which never got fully developed into a gameplay or cinematic experience.

Still though, cool to see in realtime all these years later.

I'm pretty sure Big Shell collapsing cutscene used that water effect.

Big Shell does, kind of. but not the Tanker, right?

I can't watch anything on the road right now, but as I remember the tanker finale, the Metal Gear awakens and the Tanker goes down but Snake is seen seemingly drowning rather than racing through the halls to escape. And then Big Shell has underwater sequences and a variety of splash or flooded room effects but no dramatic sinking/fleeing action like the E3 trailer.

*EDIT- I didn't remember this sequence in the gane, but maybe this is what is being referred to as the Big Shell water effect?

The funny thing is. I remember this flood effect clearly from the pre-release content, but if you go back to the original E3 2000 trailer, it's actually explosions he is running away from, not a flood. Later, lesser known trailers at TGS or ECTS had the flood and the swim/running through half-filled rooms, and also that shot of Snake diving after Metal Gear Ray. (The debut trailer also did not have the bridge.)

Mods for swapping in Snake already exist. Yes the audio is still Raiden. But again, you don't need to source to change that either.
The first and third person camera modes were able to be finished, easier documentary for removed stuff so things like the USA flag during the Solidus boss fight was able to be restored, bunch of debug stuff to let you play with how they tested the game, etc.
