Hnnnng give it to me now!
Bless 2017.
The other character weve already been formally introduced to is Roland, who is found feeling a little confused as to why hes in Ni No Kuni in the first trailer from late 2015, and no wonder, really. Not only is he from Ichi No Kuni, aka our world and Olivers from Wrath of the White Witch but hes undergone a bit of a transformation. Roland, you see, was the President of a major country in his world at only 48 years old, [and] enjoyed great popularity, but when he mysteriously finds himself in this world, he has become a 20 year old youth. Quite why, Im not sure. Couldnt he just be a bad-ass 48 year old?
In any case, he soon becomes Evans closest companion and confidante. According to developer Level-5 hes smart and has a strong sense of justice. In fact, he tends to tie himself into knots thinking about what the right course of action is. Rolands role, then, is as the wise advisor that can help Evan be a good leader.

Best thing they could've done. Spare that gorgeous art direction from half baked and annoying gameplay ideas.
Everything looks perfect, but why aren't familiars in? Like even if they aren't in the combat, not even the side-quest mission stuff where you battle them like Pokemon? I thought that was really something that made the game stand out and part of it's DNA, you and all your little monster friends along for the grand journey.
Bit underwhelming for a gameplay reveal, isn't it? A single battle and a simple platforming element.
Gameplay looks awesome, hopefully better than the first, didn't really enjoy it.
That said, the Polygon video mentions coming to Windows PC. Does that mean X1 release may happen too?

Maybe that means IGN First or something will get full reveal and footage?According to the polygon vid it was only provided to them for use as B-Roll.
It's really nice this gen that we get to play such amazing looking games as BF1/BFront, DOOM, RE7 and now Ni no Kuni 2 running at 60 fps, I don't remember having last gen amazing looking 60 fps games that can look among the best in the market, 30 fps games included (maybe outside of racing, not sure)
Nope. Without that, it's just another jrpg. The familiars are really what drew me to the first game.So wait, it's not the fun collectable game anymore?
... erm.
The familiars are gone. Really not sure if I want this game now.
Yeah, I'm not worried about the story or the characters or anything, just collecting the rare familiars and feeding them and the battle league were part of the charm IMO.Im playing dragon quest for the first time and while i like collecting monsters, its the humans in the party i care most about bringing on the journey
To that end, I hope we have a nice party. The three in the game seem fun, I wonder if you can collect more players. In fact, Id much prefer to recruit a few well designed NPCs
Same, it extended my session to over 100 hours, those last battle were tough! It is disappointing. That collection system and upgrading system was actually one of the most fun parts of original and it's gone now..
My hype for this is certainly down.
Hey, familiar collect is cool, I love thier design. Hope they are still in the game in some form.
Ghibli aren't involved anymore because of how much they've changed since the first game. Hino (the general director) discusses it in the interview in the OP.Hm, can't really find a definitive answer on this. Is Ghibli still involved? I recall hearing they aren't helping with 2 but now I'm reading former Ghibli staff are involved?
Really looking forward to this. I didn't mind the combat in 1 but I'm not sure if I would have liked another collectathon with familiars in 2. The fresh take should be interesting.
Your avatar makes me sad '-(I feel like whenever you change a lot of things that people would consider essential to a franchise doing drip out marketing is the worst move.
You gotta blow out and lay your cards on the table and sell why this is going to be great.
reminds me of CC2 fire animations

I spent many moons looking for you! The payout was amazing everytime I found him!

Ah, yep, just got to it. May have been because of the tonal change as well. Seems like they wanted to avoid the "kiddie story" complaints and go with something more adult this time around.
Sad that people felt that way, I deeply enjoyed the story of the first game.
Looks great. I loved the aesthetic in NNK, one but never got round to finishing the game.
Impressive that it hits 60 fps. I reckon Gravity Rush 2 is the nicest looking cartoon style game out there, and I don't think this will displace it, but it is up there.
