Just speculation for now based on the few Iwata quotes we have to work with.So is this thing for sure a handheld/console? I'm really interested in the NX Handheld if that's true. Is it confirmed or are they just rumors?

Nintendo ES.
Wow so nothing from now until spring? Nintendo better drop massive gigatons by that time.
It's interesting that Nintendo seems to have really locked down leaks this time around.
In practical terms it doesn't matter. Nintendo has to replace their handheld and home console in the very near future, and whether they internally refer to it as NX or not is a trivial matter. Chances are that the NX term encompasses both devices, but even if it doesn't, nobody will be confused if you do so.So is this thing for sure a handheld/console? Just if it isn't for Square Enix big mouth. It's interesting that Nintendo seems to have really locked down leaks this time around.
If past unveilings/announcements are anything to go by, I'd say March might be the earliest for NX news. Maybe a third party will spill the beans.Wow so nothing from now until spring? Nintendo better drop massive gigatons by that time.
Pokemon gen 7 will probably be a 3DS game anyway.

I wouldn't ever count on a mainline Pokémon being on a console.Talking about Pokémon: we'll have to see what happens in the next few months (next Coro Coro's issue is imminent, right?), but I wouldn't put as completely implausible that the next Pokémon semi-main game (i.e. Pokémon Z/X2/Y2/Magical Brock's Adventure in the Land of Gals/etc.) comes out on both 3DS and NX. It all depends on when the game is announced, when it's released, as well as if GF decides to put it on NX too, but...I don't know. Call me crazy, but I think the current conditions of the market could be different enough from the DS-to-3DS transition that, maybe, GF could think about it.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. If not a full NX version at least a port. The next handheld will likely not have BCAt the very least, it's going to be compatible. GF has never made a late-era Pokémon game that wasn't compatible with the next succession of hardware (Crystal, Emerald, Black 2 and White 2, etc.)
You can't name your product gameboy in 2016.
This thread keeps growing yet nothing new is rumoured or reported. Let's all just wait for next year since that's when they plan on revealing info on it. Or wait for some leak.
Oh I was. We had leaks from multiple insiders to always increase debates and the system was already revealed anyways, it was the specs and gamepad possibilities that fuelled the discussion. You obviously weren't here for the WUSTs
At least we had bgassassin and Ideaman plus some insider back then. You obviously weren't here for the WUSTs

Would be weird to take a year off and not release it on the new platform
That's what I'm thinking (WRT ARM for the handheld). The only wrinkle would be the carts themselves. You'd either need a separate 3DS slot, or the NX carts would have to be shaped like the DS/3DS ones, and I don't know how that would affect capacity.
A good VR headset will likely cost as much as the Wii U does right now and requires a powerful system to use it. It's likely not happening any time soon. If it really does become mainstream which it might not, they might consider it later onSo Reggie said VR in it's current state isnt fun. What if Nintendo deems their version of VR to be fun and the NX home console is VR is some capacity? What if they've invented a" Wii sports" like version of VR, in that it is instantly understood by everybody and flies off the shelves like Wii did?? A crazy gamble for them coming off Wii U but I wouldnt put it past them.
Purely speculation.
Good times. Good times. I was lurking back then and those threads were fun to read.At least we had bgassassin and Ideaman plus some insider back then.
Maybe we have nothing because, well, it's still so far away.

we smashed like 4 wii u speculation threads talking about absolutely nothing
dat year between e3 2011 and e3 2012
what a waste
It's precisely been Sony's MO when they attempt to be at the forefront of a new technological format.
The prospects of long term gains from this product line are too great to give up on - VR is going to be huge sooner or later. In this case, even if they don't make any profit, they're probably not going to be losing much money on Playstation VR, so it's a bit of a moot point anyways.
It's exactly a play at the hardcore who would go and buy both products, so why would Nintendo get discouraged? They'd totally do it even if they only manage to sell an extra 5 million handhelds.
You don't need 3. Nes and Gameboy are so old you can just reuse the names. I think people would like it. People think of ds as Gameboy anyway.

That would be pretty awesome if they just called it "The Nintendo Entertainment System" again, or the "NES NX". It would actually be a very smart strategy of nostalgic branding in my opinion.
I still think they should just call it NX, or Nintendo X. Nice and clean, and explains the concept (X=cross compatibility with multiple platforms).

Absolutely.I still think they should just call it NX, or Nintendo X. Nice and clean, and explains the concept (X=cross compatibility with multiple platforms).
Nintendo X Pocket (NXP) and Nintendo X Home (NXH)? Nice, clean, elegant, and easily communicates the differences between the handheld and console form factors. And they can easily do version numbers, too.
Good vr is way too expensive And requires awesome specs. So Reggie said VR in it's current state isnt fun. I think, was the DS code name the same as the final name? It's likely not going to be called the NX or Nintendo X.
I think they only time they stuck with a codename was the DS, right?
