I don't think swatting works in sweden (especially against a celebrity). Maybe he would receive a mildly annoying knock on the door.

lol Swedish police be like, knocking on the door calmly and asking "Excuse me sir, are you currently engaging in the XYZ activity we were warned about through anonymous phone tip line ? Oh... no ? You're just playing video games ? Have a good day then."

So is SWATing really an American thing ? Interesting... I didn't know.

I just can't support a guy who makes money doing something that requires no talent. It sickens me that he makes more money than the people who make the games or people with actual meaningful jobs.

Charisma is a talent (Fallout says so!)... plenty of celebrities make money off just acting a certain way or saying certain things... charisma is also highly subjective so not everyone will share the same views. I wasn't born with any musical talent so I will probably never make money performing music. However it I was, I could probably do decent off talent alone and actually make money if I applied myself to practice, make demo tapes, and perform at shows. Pewdiepie has charisma, he also took that and made youtube videos along with whatever production work that entails. Yes, there was some luck involved but I wouldn't sat he has no talent. He still has to produce content for people to consume.

An example or "Making money doing something that require no talent" would be some ugly uncharasmatic guy uploading Lets Play vids.. well guess what, hes not gonna make money

Regardless if they do or not, that's not hard work. It's mundane and tedious sure, but not hard.

I'm guessing you haven't worked in film before?

Editing and recording "look" easy, until something goes wrong and oh boy can it. And when it does it does HARD. And even when it doesn't, it's not "not hard work".

Fuck man I wish wouldn't support me too, I hate that I have a part time job and my min. wage, He's an inspiration and if I could be even be as half successful as him while doing something that requires no skill, I would love every second of it because screw real "Jobs", I don't want one

Just watch the British streamer getting 'swatted', which is essentially 2 polite chaps knocking at the door and getting it resolved. there and then.

Editing lets plays and movies is a completely different thing entirely, bad editing in a movie can ruin it, bad editing in a let's play does nothing except make it annoying due to obvious quick-cuts.

Not much money relative to the exposure he has though.
I mean if you compare with "real" celebrities.

Yeah that's probably true. I don't know what number huge celebs bring in, but I'm sure half the world doesn't know who most of them are.

Since people are talking about how much he makes in relation to sports figures, of the 505 NBA players with contracts for the 2015-16 season, 399 will earn less in salary than PDP's reported $7.4 million in revenue from 2014. Depending on what the exact number was, he could have earned more than two more players (Pau Gasol and Jose Calderon). That's 79 percent of NBA contracts.

Jameis Winston, the first pick of the most recent NFL draft, will earn less per year on his contract than PDP's $7.4 million.

I don't have the data in front of me but that's a higher number than most Premier League players, as well, and almost all of them that don't play for a top 4, top 5 club (and even a good portion of those that do).

It's not the $100+ million Beyonce made in 2014 but it's certainly comparable to people in other entertainment fields. And I'm sure his 2015 figure is going to be insane, too.

Since there's not 10 billion people in the world, maybe it's just 1 person clicking on the videos 10 billion times.

Fair play well done to him, even though I don't pay much attention to his videos.

I would say that he's the best influence on kids. My niece use to play games pretty chilled. Now after discovering this whole YouTube thing (mainly PDP), she just screams and overreacts at everything in games.

I'm not into his (I say his because he is the best when it comes to it) kinda YouTube videos but that is a great achievement. There's a discussion about numbers =! quality here somewhere (just look at the German newsaper trash BILD for instance) but at least that guy isn't racist or trying to sell his viewers expensive gold watches or something.

So now we're going down the semantics route? Well have fun with that.

Congrats but I simply don't care for it. Or a majority of these people that play games and do commentary. From what I've seen of him, it's lots of obnoxious screaming and childish remarks.

Only know the name from South Park. Same as with Honey Boo Boo; didn't realize either was an actual thing till afterwards. Never seen a video of his, but can't hate the hustle so great for him I suppose.

If it requires no talent then why only him got this amount of success? I don't like him but he didn't get all if this without a reason.

Not really a fan of his, and I really do not understand why the world is crazy about him.

Youtuber's like Hutch, Seananners, and Sark are great to watch.

I like/dislike him at the same time. He can get really annoying but some videos are actually very likable. Also his cursing is bad, because many kids are watching his video.

Never even remotely understood why anyone would watch his videos but that said: cool for him. I like to think that he's a good guy. Hopefully he uses some of his riches to do something good for the world (beyond entertainment).

Good on him I guess. Never watched his videos. I'm sure I've said this before but I will never understand why and adult would spend free time watching someone else play video games

From RagnarokX:
Reasons to watch people play games:
The person playing is someone you enjoy listening to.
You want watch how someone else experiences the game and live vicariously through them (same reason people watch sports, porn, movies, etc.).
You don't like the person playing.
You want to relive a game you already played without going through the hassle of finding the game and replaying it.
You can't get the game.
The gameplay is so lackluster that nothing important is lost by watching instead of playing.
To see someone very skilled play a game.
To see someone fail.

I'm getting salty about the persistence of that use of the word salt, especially when half the time it's people just not liking the same thing you like.

Why is every PDP thread on GAF such a shitshow?

A shitty thing is popular, and this particular shitty thing is something that a lot of people don't understand or care about already (let's plays) and this let's them talk shit about large groups of people

It's the expected reaction.
