SaGa Creator Looking to Experiment With a Bit More of a “Conventional” Game Next

The creator of the SaGa franchise, Akitoshi Kawazu, was recently interviewed by the outlet Siliconera about the series’ past, present, and potential future outings.

One of the most thought-provoking exchanges occurred at the very end of the interview when Kawazu was asked about what players may expect from SaGa’s future.

In response, Kawazu answered that experimentation will most likely be retained, considering that it’s a prominent facet of the series. However, he then said that he may experiment with something “a bit more conventional next.”

This remark raises some eyebrows since the last way you would describe a SaGa game is conventional. The most recent outing is certainly its own beast compared to just about every modern RPG release. So, the idea of a more conventional release, even if still experimental, is still curious.

But then again, maybe the idea of an unconventional series embracing something more conventional is unconventional in and of itself.

You can view the relevant exchange below:

What would you like to do next with the SaGa series and new games?
Akitoshi Kawazu:
Experimentation is a mainstay for SaGa, so I’d like to continue this with whatever comes next. Perhaps I’ll experiment with something a bit more “conventional” next.
