Seems like most third-party developers will not support Switch 2

So?? Where is the goalpost moving or lies??? :pie_thinking:

Because title of OP isn't a legal document, it's conversationally suggesting Switch 2 might not get support from the main third parties we are used to seeing, and hip indies.

Intent of OP was not to suggest Switch 2 may not get literally a majority of all third party in existence, including the massive number of devs on steam that put out a game that doesn't make a profit. Which is a staggering number.

Everyone knows this, unless you have to move the goalpost in desperation.

If you are so sure of that, good for you.

At least I can say the intent in MY post about the majority was literally about all, because why not, it's simple logic.

...from third parties on SW2, oh wait...

Switch 2 could have all the major third parties, and it would be technically factually true to say it has "a fraction of a percent of all developers".

It would be disingenuous to do so, because we assume OP is referring to third parties that matter, on the basis that no one would waste your time with a meaningless prediction like "console will not get majority of infinite one man shows flooding Steam", yeah we already know that.

In this scenario it would make sense to say that PlayStation 5 doesn't have a majority of third party support -conversationally ludicrous and only technically true when counting outfits no one cares about, with no valuable point but to litigate it.

Sure, sure. Whatever fits your argument.

Can I ask you what the point would be of listing developers or even asking the question if it was literally ALL developers? Don't we already know the answer to that question is no for any plaform if you are counting app store and steam bros that only sell a few copies but count towards the total technical number?

The only point I can see would be to fail to mention that, so people conflate the metric with the implied one.

Honestly I don't want to keep giving you opportunities to make yourself look this bad so I'm out

What is the point of saying most/majority if it is not literally including all but a "whatever fits my narrative" all??

Its missing Magic pussy 3, which is what rodrigolfp really needs for a complete library.

Because the OP was talking about the games shown at SOP/SGF and specified AAA titles in later posts. The thread wasn't really about indies.

They were asking about the original Switch.
  1. Monster Hunter Rise: 8.09 million units (as of February 2025).
  2. Stardew Valley: 7.9 million units (as of December 29, 2024).
  3. Suika Game: 7.4 million units (as of April 11, 2024).
  4. Minecraft: 6.19 million units (as of March 16, 2025).
  5. Among Us: 3.2 million units (as of December 2020).
  6. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope: 3 million units (by January 15, 2024).
  7. Xenoblade Chronicles 2: 2.70 million copies.
  8. Dragon Ball FighterZ: 2.43 million units.
  9. Human: Fall Flat: 2 million copies (as of May 2, 2024).
  10. Diablo III: Eternal Collection: 1.5 million units (as of February 2024).
(AI generated list)
It´s quite dificult to come up with data, apparently. But considering the total number of sold consoles, I would argue that some people picked up a third party game here and there.
Can only talk for myself, but most of my library are non-Nintendo games.

Third parties doesn't really disclose the split by platform usually, except for Capcom.

So he should be more specific since the first the post.
The first post was very specific that this was a reaction to Summer Games Fest and the State of Play.

The trouble with AI is that it's just grabbing things from a Wikipedia page. Overall in terms of units, total third party sales on Switch were higher than first party sales (except in the early Switch years when third party support was awful).

In all fairness how can you assume the motivation of the OP. Or any deeper meaning to any of this?. The thread title is pretty simplistic in it's basic premise to be honest.

People here really think Indie support was weak on Switch? Never oppened the eShop I guess.

The elephant in the room is that indies on switch thrived and it became the second platform revenue wise in many cases only behind Steam. It's part of the reason SteamDeck exists.

It's true that Switch 2 specific indies are scarce, but I don't think it's because of lack of interest, it's due to Nintendo's incompetence with dev kit allocation. At least they managed to get 2 out of the 3 biggest indies this year (Silksong, Hades 2, Expedition 33) and one of them is a console exclusive.

I'm honestly not concerned with the third party or indie support on S2, I'm much more worried about Nintendo enabling it through game key cards.

Doesnt bother me one bit. Only here for First Party.
Id never choose Switch version of anything given the option.

Same here. I have Nintendo systems for the same reason I have a Playstation, for the exclusives (for the most part, some games I'd rather play handheld than on a PC or TV)

Certified.
I was expecting to read something like this, didn't disappointed me.
Switch 2 will have better third-party than many are expecting. The time that "Nintendo systems are only for Nintendo games" is long gone, no matter how hard this can be for console warriors, Nintendo haters and even diehard Nintendo apologists.

After State of Play and Summer Game Fest, I can't barely remember how many third-party games get announced for Switch 2. For everyone expecting a strong support for it, I think these are bad news.
Just to go over it, 3rd party games announced/released since this thread was made last June, not including indie titles as I remember several people in the thread weren't counting them. Also not including games that are just up ported Switch games.

007 First Light
Indiana Jones: And the Great Circle
Assassin's Creed Shadows
Star Wars Outlaws
Bravely Default HD
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Cyberpunk 2077
Resident Evil 7, 8, 9
Monster Hunter Stories 3
Pragmata
Street Fighter 6
Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD
Dragon Quest VII remake

It's a great list, but IMO third party support is still a bit iffy.

Why isn't Boltgun 2 announced for the Switch 2 when the first one is on the console? Speaking of 40K, what about Space Marine 2? I would also love BG3 and the new Halo title on Switch 2.

Another odd one is Onimusha: Way of the Sword because Capcom have announced Veronica will be on the Switch 2, so why not Onimusha?

Gothic 1 remake isn't coming because the devs think the Switch 2 doesn't have the power.

And the Hitman classic trilogy remaster, how is that not announced for the Switch 2?

This isn't coming from a place of hate, but of frustration. I love my Switch 2 and just wish third parties would be more consistent with their support.

You are going to see more announcements at the Nintendo direct… Thats how it works…

There will be more announcements... Wait for the direct and any off day announcements like what Capcom did with Monster Hunter Wilds yesterday

For BG3, Larian hinted an issue with Hasbro

Regarding the old Hitman games, doesn't the Switch have already these hames ?

And for Onimusha, I think it will be like Monster Hunter Wilds

Agree, but all the games are already available on the Switch.

That's the new trilogy. The classic trilogy collection announced yesterday has no confirmed Switch version yet.

It's certainly coming, but to IDKFA IDKFA 's point it's frustrating not having confirmation for that and many other games.
